April
Fool's Day!
By
now you've probably seen KryptonSite's
2006 April Fool's page. It's an annual tradition here
that most of you have caught on to. As you can see from the
links below, some of these April Fool's gags have turned out
to be true. (Lex and Lana get together? Gough & Millar do
an Aquaman series?)
Hopefully
you're not offended or upset and will keep coming back to K-Site.
Thanks for playing along!
Oh,
and today really is Annette O'Toole's birthday, so wish
her a good one, okay? And if you liked this year's gags...
or want to tear us a new one, you
know where to find us.

"Hypnotic"
Ratings!
"Hypnotic"
had the lowest overnight rating for a new episode this season,
but then again, episodes after a long string of repeats usually
do poorly. Or, maybe, the whole "behavior change so someone
is seduced" thing has been done so often people thought
the episode was a repeat, and they missed the good Fine/Lex/ship
stuff within.
The
show did, however, improve in its second half hour.

Guide Posts Longer "Hypnotic" Article Online
TV
Guide has posted online an extended version of a "Hypnotic"
feature previously printed in their magazine. Here's a sample
quote (contains mild spoilers):
"It
leads Clark to finally do the heroic thing and break it off
with Lana, because it isn't going to work [between them],"
says Gough. And Ms. Lang's reaction? "She doesn't take
it lying down. No, you're going to see Lana slightly unleashed
as well. You know the old saying, 'Hell hath no fury....'"
Hey,
we thought Lana and Clark broke up in "Reckoning."
And "Vengeance." And "Cyborg." But what
the heck, here we go for Round Four! Apparently "I'm breaking
up with you" is the "you keep hiding secrets from
me" for 2006.
The
article does have some cool stuff, though, about the episode's
returning villain.

Michael
Rosenbaum Interviewed At Zap2It
Zap2It.com
has posted an interview with Michael Rosenbaum where
he talks about what may lie in the future for Lex, especially
in matters involving Lana Lang. He also talks about his in-the-works
sitcom and the possibility of directing an episode of Smallville
next season. Here's a sample:
[Tom]
Welling is directing a "Smallville" episode this
season, and Rosenbaum is planning to do the same (especially
since the show seems a lock to make the transition to the
new CW Network).
"They
said I could do one next year," he says. "I figure,
'Why not?'"

Part
2 of Allison Mack Interview Posted
Allison
Mack Online has posted Part 2 of their all-new interview
with Smallville's Chloe Sullivan, Allison Mack.
Here's
a sample quote, where Allison talks about the ways that Chloe
has changed over the years:
"She's
not as frantic as she used to be and just lets things roll off
her back--and I think that's important. She's really become
such a voice of reason for Clark in a lot of ways. She's really
the voice of reason for the show. She was such a spastic, emotional,
reactionary girl. And now she's a very strong, intense, and
focused and intelligent woman and she's really a nice rock for
Clark."

John Glover Interview Online
The
Courier-Mail in Australia had an online interview posted with
Smallville's Magnificent You-Know-What, John Glover.
In
the interview, Glover talks about his character and its place
in the Superman mythos, and offers some hints as to what is
to come in Lionel's future.
"I
think Lionel wants Lex to be like Lionel, and not like himself.
He can't accept Lex's flaws he thinks they make him Lex
and that's what makes our scenes together so exciting.
He
can't, and likely never will, give Lex his love because he's
not enough like Lionel," Glover told the paper.
He
also talks about the enthusiastic fan response to Lionel. "They
call me 'The Magnificent Bastard'," he chuckles, referring
to the name originated on Television Without Pity.
"Isn't
that a beautiful title? I love it, and have done since I found
out about it a couple of years ago."

Chloe Sullivan Heads To Comics
Special thanks to: JNILA & Heather
The
character of Chloe Sullivan, first introduced on Smallville,
will be headed to comic books in the new continuity following
DC Comics' Infinite Crisis.
Reports
from the Wizard World convention in Los Angeles reveal that
Superman comics editor Matt Idelson says that there are plans
to incorporate Chloe into Superman's four-color world.
What
could this mean for Chloe on Smallville? The idea that
"she dies before the end" could finally be put to
rest, for one thing...
We'll
let you know when and if we hear more.
Click
here to read the full convention report at Comic Book Resources
UPDATE!
A
recap of the DC panel at Wizard World posted at Newsarama.com
reveals there have been some mixed signals at DC. Here's what
they say: "Asked of Chloe from Smallville will ever
appear in the DCU, [Dan] Didio and Superman editor Matt Idelson
had different responses. Didio said there were no plans, but
Idelson followed his response and said there actually were some
plans." Since Idelson is more directly involved with Supeman
than Didio, who oversees everything, hopefully that means he
is the one who is correct.

Season One DVD Cover!
Warner

set from the 1988-1992 Superboy
series, available on June 20, 2006.
Because
of legal entanglements, Superboy has not been seen in
American syndication
in over 10 years.
Superboy
Season One featured a very different Clark Kent's college
days, with John Haymes-Newton as Clark Kent/Superboy and Stacy
Haiduk as Lana Lang. Some episodes were directed by David Nutter,
who directed Smallville's pilot.
While
later seasons of Superboy which starred Gerard Christopher are
more fondly remembered and anticipated by fans, we won't get
further sets without big sales on the first year. So, be sure
to get a copy and show your interest!

Rosenbaum Plays Lex Luthor... Again... In "The Great Brain
Robbery"
This
weekend, the U.S. Cartoon Network showed the animated Justice
League Unlimited episode, "The Great Brain Robbery."
In it, the character of the Flash (voiced by Smallville's
own Michael Rosenbaum) switched bodies with Lex Luthor... so,
essentially, Michael was playing Lex in the Flash's body. You'll
notice if you watch that Michael doesn't play his Luthor Smallville-style,
and even pronounces the name Lu-Thor, like Otis would in days
gone by.
Listen
closely and, if we're not mistaken, Michael also voices the
villain Doctor Polaris.

your local Cartoon Network listings to keep an eye out for a
re-airing of this episode.

Vengeance
Chronicles Bring New Online Smallville Content
Tying
in with the Smallville
Acuvue sweepstakes, The WB has now been providing an
exclusive series of "webisodes" much in the vein of
the Chloe Chronicles of years gone by. This year, the Vengeance
Chronicles again star Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack) with
some backup from Andrea Rojas, the Angel of Vengeance from the
episode "Vengeance" (Denise Quiñones).
The
first two chapters (available at
this link) serve as an introduction; with Part 3 the
real action begins with an exclusive story unlike anything that
will be seen on the show. Those of you without a fast Internet

Why
Are There No New Episodes Until March 30?
This
is a popular question that we've been getting in our e-mailbox
at K-Site a lot and I don't think people understand the real
reason for. There are a number of reasons why there won't be
any new Smallville until that time.
Most
important, is that there are only 22 episodes produced to fill
52 weeks in the year. Obviously this will mean we'll get some
repeats. A lot of those repeats air in the summer; but they
are also sprinkled in for a few weeks in December, January,
and March. 22 episodes is the TV industry standard.
Secondly,
when Smallville returned on January 12, it was a week
earlier than the show usually returns. So, another repeat had
to go in somewhere.
Episodes
take time to produce and put together. The only way we'd get
22 episodes in a row is if we had a 5 or 6 month long break
between seasons, like 24 does. Do you REALLY want that?
So,
those are just a few of the reasons why we have to wait until
March 30 for the next new episode. In the meantime, just watch
repeats, and speculate on upcoming episodes in the KryptonSite
Forum!

Comic
Book Creators Assemble For "Sam's Story"
Sam
Loeb, the 17-year-old son of former Smallville Supervising
Producer Jeph Loeb, was a frequently seen face to the crew of
Smallville and to the many fans and friends who had met
his father at conventions and public appearances. Sam left us
way too soon, at the age of 17 in June 2005.
The
Season Five premiere of Smallville, "Arrival,"
was dedicated to Sam's memory.
The
Newsarama
website has posted an interview Jeph Loeb where he talks about
his son and a special story Sam wrote for DC's Superman/Batman
comic book before his passing - a story that 26 of the industry's
top creators will be completing as their own tribute to Sam.
Check out this roster:
Arthur
Adams (Longshot, Jonni Future)
Joe Casey (G.I. Joe, Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Superman)
John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men, Planetary)
Joyce Chin (Superman: Silver Banshee, Xena)
Ian Churchill (Cable, Supergirl)
Allan Heinberg (JLA, Young Avengers)
Geoff Johns (Infinite Crisis, The Flash)
Joe Kelly (Superman, Deadpool)
Mike Kunkel (Herobear and the Kid)
Jim Lee (X-Men, Batman: Hush, All-Star Batman &
Robin the Boy Wonder)
Pat Lee (Superman/Batman #7, Transformers)
Rob Liefeld (X-Force, New Mutants, Youngblood)
Paul Levitz (Legion of Superheroes)
Jeph Loeb (Superman For All Seasons, Supergirl
- former supervising producer for Smallville who also
wrote several Smallville episodes, including "Red,"
"Insurgence," and "Legacy")
Joe Madureira (Battle Chasers, Uncanny X-Men)
Jeff Matsuda (The Batman animation design; does
anyone remember New Men?)
Ed McGuinness (Superman/Batman, Deadpool)
Brad Meltzer (award-winning author, Identity Crisis,
Justice League of America)
Carlos Pacheco (Avengers Forever, Superman/Batman,
Green Lantern)
Duncan Rouleau (Superman, Alpha Flight)
Tim Sale (Superman For All Seasons, Batman: The Long
Halloween)
Richard Starkings (award-winning letterer)
Mike Turner (Fathom, Superman/Batman)
Brian K. Vaughan (Y the Last Man, Runaways)
Mark Verheiden (The American, also was a producer
for Smallville who wrote fan-favorite episodes like "Perry"
and "Rogue," now a writer for Battlestar Galactica)
Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
and Angel, now writing Astonishing X-Men)
Superman/Batman
#26 is due in comic book specialty shops in April. If you
are interested in getting this comic, we do recommend that you
call your local comics retailer (to find, dial 1-800-COMIC-BOOK)
and tell them that you'd like a copy reserved, so they are aware
of the demand. All of the creators listed will be donating their
fees and royalties to the Sam Loeb College Scholarship Fund
to be given every year to a graduating senior at Sam's high
school.
Read
Jeph Loeb's complete Newsarama interview about Superman/Batman
#26 here.
The
link above also features a preview of a 6-page story from Superman/Batman
#26 written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by his For All Seasons
collaborator Tim Sale. Not only is it done in the Superman
For All Seasons style, but in a way, you could almost see
it in the Smallville universe. Be warned, however: The
story is beautifully written and drawn, but it is not for people
who cry easily at sad things.
[If
you want to know more about The Sam Loeb College Scholarship
Fund, or if you want to make a donation no matter how large
or small, please send an email to SAMLOEB4@AOL.COM.]

Schneider
Interview At TVGuide.com
A
new interview at TVGuide.com has John Schneider talking
about the death of Jonathan Kent and what is in his future.
Here's a sample quote:
"In
many senses, Jonathan is in the show more after he's dead. His
memory is kind a talisman for the second half of Season 5. I'm
in it in spirit more than I was in Season 4 at all."

Why
Does John Schneider Remain In The Smallville Opening
Credits?
After
the airing of "Vengeance," some fans wondered why
John Schneider remains in the opening credits of Smallville
when his character was killed in the 100th episode.
Contractual
obligations will keep John in the opening titles for the rest
of the season, whether or not he is slated to appear on the
show again. Usually, when an actor appears in more than half
of the episodes of the season, they still appear in the opening
- witness Erica Durance and John Glover, who usually only appear
in 13 of the 22 episodes per year.

Surprising
News: The WB, UPN To Merge
Many
television
websites are now reporting the surprising news that The
WB network and UPN will merge into one television network this
Fall.
This
will lead to a new network aimed at the networks' target demographics
that will be combined to form something currently called "The
CW." TV Guide jokes that "Veronica
and Clark are totally going to hook up now." (We're thinking
they already have, for the few episodes in Season 1 when Chloe
and Clark got together.)
Some
news reports have indicated that Smallville will indeed
be part of this new network's line-up, though obviously the
number of available timeslots will diminish. Stay tuned for
more details as they become available. The joint venture could
lead to something cool; though we've got to ask out loud: "The
CW?" Really doesn't roll off the tongue.

Classic
Superman Movies On Sale For $7.97 Each!
We've
just noticed that the four movies in the Superman movie series
starring Christopher Reeve are now being listed at 60%
off on Amazon.com - at a price of $7.97 each!
We're
not sure how long this deal is good for, so if you want to check
out the classics (and perhaps see how they compare to Smallville
or the coming Superman Returns), click the links below:
Superman:
The Movie Special Edition - The one that started
it all, includes scenes on Krypton and some sequences involving
young Clark Kent going to the Fortress of Solitude!
Superman
II - Sadly not the Richard Donner cut, but still
- this one's got the Phantom Zone and Zod - you might want
to brush up on these things because you never know when they
may pop up next.
Superman
III - Derided by fans but really fun. And it has
Annette O'Toole (Martha) as Lana Lang. Yes, Clark's mom is
Lana Lang. Talk about an Oedipal complex...
Superman
IV: The Quest For Peace - The less said about
this one the better, but it IS Christopher Reeve's last film
as Superman.

100th Episode Interview With Executive Producer Alfred Gough
We've
been fortunate enough to interview Smallville Executive
Producer Alfred Gough about the upcoming 100th episode
of the series.
In
the interview, Gough talks about Clana relationships, a boyfriend
for Chloe, the future of Lois Lane, Aquaman, Jor-El, James Marsters,
how the 100th episode will change Clark, and more.
Here's
a brief teaser of part of the interview, as he tells us about
the changes Clark will face following the January 26 show:
"It's
definitely going to force him to take a look at his life, and
realize that the decisions you could make as a high school kid
and the decisions you make as a young adult are vastly different,
and it's a step closer from becoming the Superboy to Superman."

5 on DVD: That Far-Too-Frequent Question Returns

5 of Smallville will be on DVD. To which, we remind you:
