The Latest Rumors On Who's Staying, and Who's Going For Season 8

Here's the latest buzz on who's staying and who's going for the already-ordered Season 8 of Smallville:

Tom Welling (Clark) is already contracted to appear in Season 8.

The contracts for Michael Rosenbaum (Lex), Allison Mack (Chloe), and Kristin Kreuk (Lana) conclude with the end of Season Seven. However, Kristin is expected to appear in at least part of Season 8.

It has been announced that Michael Rosenbaum will not be returning as a series regular for Season 8.

The studio and network are currently negotiating with Allison to make a deal for her to return as Chloe in Season 8. Contrary to some reports, no deal has been made yet.

Erica Durance (Lois), Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy), and Laura Vandervoort (Kara), are all said to be contracted for Season 8.

John Glover (Lionel) did have a contract taking him through Season 8, but clearly there was a change in plans and he departed the series with "Descent."

James Marsters (Brainiac) has expressed interest in returning for more Smallville in the show's eighth year.

Season 7 DVD News!

Here's something unconfirmed by the studio, which is why we're keeping it on Rumorville for now...

After a Season 6 DVD set lacking in the commentary department, we are hearing that the Season 7 set will have "at least 1 or 2 commentary tracks." No details beyond that are available, except that actors AND crew will be involved.

If we hear any more about this, we'll share... (and if anyone from Smallville is reading and wants to tell us more info, feel free!)

Kristin Kreuk To Play Chun-Li In Street Fighter Movie?

ComingSoon.net is reporting that Kristin Kreuk will be playing the lead in the upcoming film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. The film is set to shoot in Thailand in March.

UPDATED: Kristin IS doing Street Fighter. We're not sure how or if this would affect her Smallville filming schedule.

Kevin Sorbo Coming To Smallville?

At the recent DragonCon convention in Atlanta, it was allegedly said by one-time Hercules actor Kevin Sorbo that he would soon be appearing on Smallville. He didn't specify what the role would be.

Originally we reported that chances are very good that he might be playing Zor-El, Kryptonian father to Kara (aka Supergirl) in the episode "Lara." We've now been corrected as the Starkville House of El website has talked to Mr. Sorbo himself.

"Nothing official, only that if I am available towards the end of the year, the want me for a 3-4 episode arc," is the word from Mr. Sorbo.

Sorbo has a Superman connection, having been one of the final contenders for the role of Clark Kent on Lois & Clark.

UPDATED: No word on if this is still going to happen with the shorter season.

UPDATE: Tom Approached For Justice League Movie?

On the August 24 edition of G4TV's Attack of the Show and IESB.net, it was reported that Tom Welling has been approached to play the Man of Steel for Warner Bros.' big-screen movie adaptation of the Justice League of America.

This morning, we received word from Smallville's executive producer and creator Alfred Gough that this is not the case.

"Completely false. Hasn't been approached. He's under contract to the show through season 8," Gough says.

The Superman Homepage heard a similar report last night when they seeked confirmation from Gough. "Hasn't happened, won't happen," Gough told them.

IESB still stands by their story. "We have triple checked this out and all indications are that Tom Welling in fact is a go on the WB side," IESB's Robert Sanchez said. "I rechecked with my sources and they are all still saying yes, yes Tom Welling, yes Justice League, yes production starts early next year and yes Smallville will have to work around it. Believe me, the IESB will be the first to post a retraction on a story if we are proved wrong, but right now, this is what we are hearing."

Prior to this rumor's surfacing all indications had pointed to Tom having very little interest in ever wearing tights. If it happens, though, it sounds like the studio would have to wait until AFTER Tom's eight-year Smallville contract is up.

Supergirl Spin-Off In The Works?

Smallville adds Laura Vandervoort as Kal-El's Kryptonian cousin Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. But might there be more planned for her character than just a Smallville guest run?

An interview with Vandervoort's grandfather implies that following her Smallville stint, Kara will be going off to her own series.

Smallville's creators and the show's publicity have not said anything about a spin-off, which is why we're putting this one on Rumorville for now.
