From Smallville to... Metropolis?
UPDATED 6-24-09

Ain't It Cool News today posted a big rumor that - if true - could be something huge for Smallville fans.

Here's something a tipster sent that site:

On black, with crimson/red text in the same font lettering that Smallville uses, and a transparent grey Superman "S" watermark behind the text:

METROPOLIS

CHRISTMAS 2010

Then at the bottom is a banner advertising the Smallville presentation.

AICN is suggesting the possibility that Smallville will conclude its 9-year run in May 2010, with whatever this is serving as a sequel to the show.

So far, no one officially connected with the series has confirmed or denied anything. To go into a ninth season with an end point in mind would be very smart for the series, both creatively and in terms of promotion, especially if a "Metropolis" movie could wrap it up. Bonus points could be had if former series stars like Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Annette O'Toole, and even John Glover and John Schneider could return for the series' final hurrah.

Stay tuned for more information. Of course if this is true, we'll be hearing more at the Comic-Con panel on July 26!

season 8 smallville posterNo Sam Witwer For Season 9?
UPDATED 6-24-09

Sam Witwer's character of Davis Bloome was killed in the Season 8 finale, "Doomsday," but a lot of fans had hoped that he would continue with the series as the character of Zod when the show returns for a ninth season. A leaked photo showing Sam with a goatee seemed to confirm these suspicions.

The Sam-as-Zod notion was first hinted at in the episode "Bloodline," where Faora commented that Davis looked "just like his father."

Unfortunately, with the casting of Callum Blue as Zod, it's looking more and more like Sam-as-Zod is not going to come to pass. A few independent but unconfirmed sources are telling us it's not going to happen, but of course, this hasn't been confirmed or denied by the network or the series' producers.

One theory is that Sam was always only contracted for one season, as many thought Season 8 would be the last; the other theory is that Witwer's contract explicitly states that it is to be playing Davis Bloome and not another character. Either way, unfortunately for fans of Sam Witwer, it's not looking very good at the moment.

Allison Mack Confirms Season 10 For Welling? Plus, Details On Her Own Future
UPDATED 5-11-09

In an interview with indieWIRE's Matt Dentler to promote her new film You, Allison Mack (Chloe) has confirmed the rumors (below) that Tom Welling has signed for a 10th season. It also appears she has confirmed her character's season finale survival; unless, of course, she was being crafty with her words.

Here's what she had to say:

"The latest with Smallville is that we have another season [after this season’s finale on May 14]. Tom has signed for two more, so the show will go until season 10. I will be completed with my contract next year, and I am looking for new and exciting ways to carry out my character’s exit. I love living in Vancouver, it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I love the people, the food, the aesthetic, and the life I have built here. It’s wonderful."

Tom Welling On For Season 9... And Season 10?
UPDATED 4-8-09

Here's a juicy new rumor for Rumorville... we've heard buzz from multiple sources that Tom Welling may have signed for not just one, but TWO seasons when he recently extended his contract to do Season 9 this fall.

Now, whether Tom is signed or not, it all ultimately is up to Smallville's ratings on The CW for Season 9, as there would probably be no show if the network was not interested in it. If this rumor is true, though, it would explain why there has been very little talk of "the final season" being associated with Season 9... it also could explain why new sets are being erected when the series allegedly has only one year left.

As this is not confirmed by official sources (and likely won't be), we're keeping this on Rumorville for now.

Is this good for the show? Or bad? Talk about it on our forums!

UPDATED: Smallville Spin-Off Coming?
POSTED 2-4-09; UPDATED 2-25-09

Smallville has now officially been renewed for a ninth season, but don't count out the possibility of a spin-off just yet.

With Smallville's ratings being what they are, The CW might want to keep things going in the TV-DC Universe a bit more. No ideas yet on casting or concept, or if this is anything more than a rumor, but it's something to think about....
