Episode
#9-8: "Idol"
November 13, 2009
Writer: Ann Coffel Saunders
Director: Glen Winter Guest Stars: David Gallagher (Zan), Allison Scagliotti (Jayna), Dylan Neal (D.A. Ray Sacks)
The CW's Official Description (Posted 10/23/09): DC COMICS “THE WONDER TWINS” SHOW UP TO HELP CLARK CLEAN UP METROPOLIS — Superhero twins Zan (guest star David Gallagher) and Jayna (guest star Allison Scagliotti) show up in Metropolis to help The Blur fight crime but end up botching several rescues, landing Clark (Tom Welling) in hot water with the District Attorney’s office. Clark decides to come forward as the Blur to clear his name. Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, Justin Hartley, and Callum Blue also star. Posted on KryptonSite. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Ann Coffel Saunders (#3X5255X).
UPDATED 9/5/09: This is apparently now airing eighth, right in the middle of "November sweeps."
UPDATED 8/30/09: New stuff from TV Guide Magazine:
-
Faora and Basqat will be among the Kryptonian cronies we'll see with Zod.
- In "Idol," Zan and Jayna take the form of an ice sheet and a cougar, and although they won't have pointy ears, we very well may get a peek at their space monkey Gleek.
UPDATED 8/17/09: Lois meets her psychatrist, "Dr. Evans," and tells her there are things she wants to talk about off the record.
- Dr. Evans asks Lois to describe these dreams, and Lois tells her that they start off with "serious NC-17 violence" and then there's a recurring event - involving clothes coming off. "Lots of... naked... skin. Skin on skin."
- Dr. Evans asks if these dreams are about Clark and Lois gets defensive and says that yes, she's doing the "virtual kama sutra" with Clark Kent, and refers to her desk as "soft-core central."
- Dr. Evans suggests that Lois's dream may have something to do with wanting to uncover something that's hidden within Clark. Lois admits she does feel like he is hiding something, and that the closer she gets to him, the more she feels like Clark is going to disappear.
- "The Red-Blue Blur" calls while Lois is talking with Dr. Evans. The ring tone is "Holding Out For A Hero" (though of course this could change). Lois sends him to voice mail. Apparently the last time Lois opened up to the RBB, he vanished into thin air. The doctor suggests she still has feelings for this "mysterious caller," but Lois insists that he's history like "eight-track tapes" and "rotary phones."
- Chloe by this point knows that Clark has been calling Lois as "The Blur." She is there with him on the other side of the line. There is a reference made to "what happened with Corbin" from "Metallo."
- Chloe tells Clark he's going to need a better disguise.
- Something happens at one point that makes Lois think Clark is the Blur. The Blur does eventually reach her by the phone, however.
- Also in this episode it is Clark, not the Blur, who saves Lois from danger out on a ledge. There's a scene (possibly around the same moment?) where Lois wants to confess her feelings for him, and Clark looks deeply into her eyes, though it's unknown if they actually say anything.
- Dr. Evans tells Lois that there will be a time when she will have to choose between the Blur and Clark.
- Zan and Jayna may be transforming themselves into a black panther... and a sheet of ice.
- The Metropolis D.A., Ray Sacks, holds a televised press conference urging the Blur to "step out of the shadows." He invites Clark to show himself and take responsibility for his actions" at a public press conference and derides his work as "vigilante behavior."
- Later at the press conference, the Blur doesn't show... but Lois does... announcing that she knows the Blur. She then has a monologue about how and why the Blur can't come out and make his presence known, and that he needs to be what we all need - a symbol to believe in, and a light in the darkness.
- This episode will have a very "V For Vendetta" moment within.
UPDATED 8/14/09: Provided that these are indeed the "Wonder Twins"... "Zan" will be played by David Gallagher of 7th Heaven fame; "Jayna" will be Allison Scagliotti who was recently seen on Warehouse 13.
UPDATED 8/4/09: Smallville is now casting the roles of "Twyla," a "Pixie-punk teen," and her brother "Tanner," a "hot skater dude." *Cough*Zan and Jayna*cough cough*
- These two spray paint an "S" on the roof of a bad guy's limo, to catch the attention of their "idol," the Blur.
- Later, the duo visit Watchtower and see all of the high-tech gear that Chloe has within. Jayna "Twyla" asks Chloe if she's actually met the Blur, and if she is the Blur's sidekick. Chloe tells them that Watchtower provides support to all of the heroes of Metropolis. "Twyla" wants to tweet her "group" about what she has seen, and Chloe warns that if she says one word to anyone about it, any trace of her virtual existence will be evaporated.
- A sign of the current state of the Chloe-Clark interaction: Chloe tells them that "if you get good enough at it, one day you might find yourself saving your best friend, from an enemy, or even from himself."
UPDATED 8/3/09: A possible hint on the guest characters in this episode: It's very likely they may have the ability to turn into a bird and a bucket of water, respectively. Space monkey optional. We'll see if that pans out.
UPDATED 7/27/09: Two guests from the DC Universe will appear in this episode.
Episode
#9-9: "Pandora"
November 20, 2009
Director: Morgan Beggs
The CW's Official Description (Posted 11/2/09): BACK TO THE FUTURE — Tess (Cassidy Freeman) kidnaps Lois (Erica Durance) to find out where Lois went after she disappeared for weeks. Lois's memory of the future depicts a Metropolis under Zod's (Callum Blue) rule and Clark (Tom Welling) powerless under the red sun, while Chloe (Allison Mack) forms a resistance group with Oliver (Justin Hartley). After learning of these future events, Clark makes an important decision about Zod. Posted on KryptonSite. Morgan Beggs directed the episode written by Drew Landis & Julia Swift (#3X5259).
UPDATED 10/13/09: More Clois spoilers from "PattyLaurie": "Lois/Clark do agree to become a couple in Pandora, after Lois first clarifies her terms, and more importantly, after Clark discovers the forboding malevolent truth about her dream sequence. Their coupledom is continued into Disciple, an episode about the Dark Arrow, adding another Oli into the mix."
UPDATED 8/26/09: Executive Producer Kelly Souders has told E! Online that "Episode nine will reveal what's been haunting Lois since the premiere episode and will give Clark insight to what he'll need to do this season to defeat Zod."
- A rumored title for this episode is "Pandora." (UPDATE: The E! article has been updated to confirm that "Pandora" is indeed the title of the episode.)
UPDATED 10/16/09: KryptonSite has learned that Steve Bacic will be playing the Dark Archer.
UPDATED 10/11/09: The character of Mia Dearden (Speedy) makes a return appearance in this episode.
- The "Dark Archer" is an old mentor of Oliver's from a Celtic cult of assassins.
- Oliver gets a new Green Arrow costume by this point.
UPDATED 10/7/09: New spoiler from Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello: "Oliver will meet the bad guy version of the Green Arrow (a.k.a. the Dark Archer) in episode 10." Dark Archer? "jason1040" over on Twitter says it's likely Merlyn, a black clad archer who often causes trouble for Oliver Queen.
UPDATED 9/15/09: Title Posted. Please do not re-post this on other sites without mentioning the title's source (KryptonSite) with a link to the site.

UPDATED 10/20/09: This title was revealed by "PattyLaurie" though we don't know where exactly it will fit in the scheme of things. We are ASSUMING it'll air eleventh, before the "Society" 2-parter, but this is not confirmed.
Episode
#9-12: "Society"
2010
Written By: Geoff Johns Directed By: Glen Winter Guest Stars: Michael Shanks (Carter Hall/Hawkman), Brent Stait (Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate), Britt Irvin (Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl), Phil Morris (John Jones/Martian Manhunter)
UPDATED 10/30/09: New Hawkman spoilers from Michael Shanks at the Huffington Post:
- "Hawkman being the alpha in the Justice Society, being someone who...has made some missteps along the way, can or could represent a type of mentor character to Clark in his leadership abilities with his burgeoning team members of the Justice League. He represents a character that has a lot of wisdom to pass down to this next generation, so there is a strong possibility that once the initial phase wears off that there will be a coming together of those two to paint a larger portrait of the future, of what Clark has available to him and what his options are," he says. - About Doctor Fate: "There's a really neat relationship between he and Hawkman that makes the first episode quite heart-wrenching. There are aspects of it that are heart-wrenching as a result of that relationship. And I thought that was a very cool aspect of the first episode."
- The character will fly, and he does have a mace. And yes, there are wings.
- The version of Carter Hall we'll be seeing here is an archaelogist, not "Thanagarian space cop."
UPDATED 10/26/09: Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Phil Morris will be appearing in "Society" as the Martian Manhunter.
UPDATED 10/26/09: Although the Internet Movie Database lists Elise Gatien as appearing as "Speedy" in this episode, our sources say she is not in this one... at least, not in Part 1.
UPDATED 10/22/09: Writer Geoff Johns has confirmed rumors that "Society" has now been split into two parts. He will be writing both parts.
UPDATED 10/20/09: More from Geoff Johns on Twitter: "Yes, Hawkman will have wings. And a big mace. Oh. And he and Green Arrow don't get along. At all."
UPDATED 10/19/09: Erica Durance (Lois) does not appear in one of the episode's two parts.
-
IGN has solved the "helmet" puizzle by revealing that Hawkman and Doctor Fate will be part of the proceedings. Both characters have worn helmets. Michael Shanks of Stargate fame will be playing Hawkman; Brent Stait is Doctor Fate. Meanwhile, Matt Mitovich at Fancast.com has revealed that Britt Irvin (Aliens In America) is playing Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl.
UPDATED 10/17/09: Another hint: At least one of the Justice Society members appearing has been replaced by a woman in their superheroic identity at some point in comics history. (As revealed above, Doctor Fate is appearing. Hawkgirl taking over Hawkman's comic book series might also count).
UPDATED 10/11/09: Geoff Johns has revealed that one of the DC characters in this episode is "a girl. Who likes stars." (Read more on that)
- At least one of the other characters appearing is known to wear a helmet from time to time.
UPDATED 9/11/09: Glen Winter will be directing the episode. We are hearing rumblings that this may be the season's 12th episode though this has not yet been confirmed.
UPDATED 8/30/09: New stuff from TV Guide Magazine: The Justice Society returns "to give these screwed up guys of the next generation a needed smack-down," Geoff Johns says. The characters appearing are not yet known and will rely on legal clearances, but Johns says the characters will be in their 40's and Jay Garrick and Alan Scott will not be appearing.
UPDATED 8/17/09: Geoff Johns tells KryptonSite that the Justice Society "will be heroes that come out of 'retirement' to see how the current generation operates."
UPDATED 7/27/09: Popular comics writer Geoff Johns ("Legion") returns for a story featuring the Justice Society of America - a team that preceded the Justice League by a generation.

More Spoilers For Smallville Season 9
UPDATED 10/28/09: New stuff from EW's Michael Ausiello:
- Regarding the future for Clark and Lois: "They both have a few issues, so things never go as smoothly as you think," Souders told Ausiello. "But what’s great about the relationship, because it's sort of more adult, mature relationship, is it actually brings their issues up to the forefront, and makes them start dealing with them instead of being the younger versions of themselves, where they might not have been that conscious of it."
- Souders says to look out for "Pandora" to see if Clark finds out about the dreams Lois has been having
"Reality is relative in Pandora, but I will say that when [Lois] goes to the future, there’s some skin there," she says, adding that "Pandora" is like a finale. "It’s huge. You'll see an alternate ending for everyone in the cast. You'll see what could happen to them and the future is dramatic. You won't be disappointed."
- The idea of using glasses as a disguise will at least be contemplated within the season's first 9 episodes.
- Some "budding romance from an expected source" is in the cards for Chloe. Souders wouldn't confirm to Ausiello if it was Oliver, but she did reveal to him that during the second half of the season, "Chloe is going to meet a new hero who is not all that he's cracked up to be." The character might not come from DC Comics. "I don't think we got the rights to the name cleared," Souders said, "but it's somebody fans of the show will be familiar with."
- In an interview where Souders talked about the possibilities of the show going to Season 10, Ausiello asked if we'll see a glimpse of Clark in his real Super costume by series' end. "We think Smallville from the get-go was about how a young man turns into Superman. And it’s really about the journey getting there. I can't make any promises, but if it was ever going to happen, it would be at the very end," she says.
- And a spoiler not from Ausiello, but from other recent interviews: Both Zatanna and Martian Manhunter should be appearing in the latter half of Season 9.
UPDATED 9/15/09: Something new from "PattyLaurie" at IMDB: "The first kiss [between Lois and Clark] occurs in Crossfire, but there is a second in "Idol, that precipitates a dire 'catatonic' incident, necessitating the discovery of truth behind Lois's 'flashes', and their calamitous ramifications, revealed then in Pandora!
UPDATED 8/30/09: New stuff from TV Guide Magazine:
-
The Justice Society returns "to give these screwed up guys of the next generation a needed smack-down," Geoff Johns says. The characters appearing are not yet known and will rely on legal clearances, but Johns says the characters will be in their 40's and Jay Garrick and Alan Scott will not be appearing.
- Brian Peterson reveals that Perry White (Michael McKean) might finally be working his way back to the Daily Planet! Here's hoping they can actually get him back.
UPDATED 7/27/09: Holy Flash Forward! Lois is having visions of the future, and "what day in the future" will be revealed during November sweeps.
UPDATED 7/21/09: Lots of reports on relationships for Season 9, some of which are conflicting. E! Online says this about Chloe and Clark: "We're actually hearing of a "strained relationship" between Chloe and Clark next season on Smallville. Those two will always work together, and they will always be your "Chloe and Clark," but expect some tension in season nine.
- EW's Michael Ausiello is proclaiming that Season 9 will have "full tilt Clois."
UPDATED 7/8/09: E! Online's Kristin Vietch is saying that Clark and Lois is the romance arc to watch in Season 9. TV Guide Magazine, on the other hand, has some words from Justin Hartley, who says to expect something to possibly happen again between Lois and Oliver.
UPDATED 6/30/09: Justin Hartley had an update for Watch With Kristin about his character arc for Season 9: "I heard Oliver's going to start drinking again. He'd better be a funny drunk. Who wants an angry drunk around?"
