We are now starting to get casting news for the Superman: Legacy film which is coming in 2025 from producer/director/DC Guru James Gunn.

Multiple trades are reporting that David Corenswet, long a fan favorite to be cast in the role, has landed the coveted part of Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman. Playing Lois Lane opposite him is The Marvelous Ms. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan. And yes, Corenswet truly does look like what would happen if you mixed Henry Cavill and Tom Welling into a blender, doesn’t he?

“I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am,” James Gunn said in a THR interview. “He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s fucking Superman. And that’s kind of like what I feel like.”

Corenswet himself had said in an Entertainment Weekly interview that playing Superman would be a “pie-in-the-sky ambition.” Well, guess what? It’s happening.

Look for Superman: Legacy in 2025.

They talk about the role of “the greatest criminal mind of our time” and Nicholas reveals who was the first Lex that he ever saw… and yep, it’s the same guy as our favorite. There’s even a comparing of notes about head-shaving and the audition process, and Michael enthusiastically cheered Hoult on.

Nicholas Hoult also asked Rosenbaum about his approach to Lex. “There’s a lot of things I related to the character,” Michael said, pointing to his own childhood. James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Movie Gets A New Title, “S” Reveal

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy film has gotten a new title and a reveal of the “S” for the movie.

James Gunn has revealed the new look for Superman’s “S” as principal photography of the new Superman film starts today (coincidentally, Superman’s birthday). He also revealed something new on his Instagram post:

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025,” he posted.

Considering a lot of the promotional material for the Christopher Reeve Superman film was labeled “Superman: The Movie,” this might be one of the first times that simply “Superman” has been the title for anything in live action. The new logo, by the way, is a bit like the one Alex Ross designed for the iconic Kingdom Come miniseries in 1996. That crest was later adapted into Brandon Routh’s suit for the Crisis on Infinite Earths TV event.

Superman, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
