Milly Alcock will be Supergirl in James Gunn’s new DC film universe.

James Gunn’s new DC Universe has found their Woman of Tomorrow as Milly Alcock had landed the role of Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl. Deadline reported the news today, mentioning that she’ll be seen in a DC-based project (Superman: Legacy, perhaps?) before headlining her own film based on Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book series.

Alcock is best known for her role as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon.

After what seems like weeks of shooting down fake rumors, James Gunn confirmed this news to be true.

“This is accurate,” Gunn posted on Instagram when the news came out. “Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis [Evely]and Ana Nogueira.”

Previous big-screen Supergirls include Helen Slater in Supergirl and Sasha Calle in The Flash. Supergirls on TV have included Laura Vandervoort on Smallville and Melissa Benoist who played the title character in the six seasons of The CW’s Supergirl.

There is a very special episode of Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum today as Michael’s guest this week is Nicholas Hoult who will be playing Lex Luthor in the 2025 Superman film. They talk about the role of “the greatest criminal mind of our time” and Nicholas reveals who was the first Lex that he ever saw… and yep, it’s the same guy as our favorite. There’s even a comparing of notes about head-shaving and the audition process, and Michael enthusiastically cheered Hoult on.

Nicholas Hoult also asked Rosenbaum about his approach to Lex. “There’s a lot of things I related to the character,” Michael said, pointing to his own childhood. He also noted that Lex was “calm and collected” but “intense” when you crossed him. It’s a very complex character and Hoult will surely succeed like Michael did. You can watch the interview below.
