APRIL FOOL’S!

There was some consideration to not doing the annual April Fool’s thing at KryptonSite this year. Every year since before Smallville even started, we’ve done it, but in the year 2020, the world kind of sucks… and we’re constantly inundated with fake news. Even before we were stuck indoors all the time, We Got This Covered would be working overtime 365 days a year to share BS headlines that people would be gullible enough to share.

But, we also need some levity. I just had a major death in the family, and this is the one day of the year where I get to be a little creative at K-Site, so I held on to this as a bit of an escape. So, if you want to be mad, be mad, I apologize. There was a poll done on the @KryptonSite Twitter this year, and most seemed to think we should still go ahead and do it. Obviously, we weren’t going to joke about production schedules, or coronavirus, or Allison Mack’s legal situation, or anything that would be hurtful. And hopefully this year’s gags weren’t too hurtful. As we promised on Twitter, too, no Lana slander.

So, no, there is not a “Costume Cut” of Crisis on Infinite Earths… what we saw is what we got, and I’m still on the side of liking and respecting how Smallville’s Clark’s story ended. It’s still unknown what Greg Berlanti was referring to with the “Three Supermen” thing in a quote that was indeed real – it may have been a misunderstanding, but no, no Costume Cut. Though The CW is still re-airing Crisis in a few weeks, and it’s quite good, so check it out!

And then, the Challenge of the Superfriends thing… that’s purely wishful thinking on our part, and if it ends up happening, then great! It seems like “Justice League vs. the Legion of Doom” would be the best thing possible after last year’s Crisis ending… and a smaller scale crossover also seems more likely after the scheduling headache that Crisis on Infinite Earths surely was. I was happy to get my friend Jon Lee Brody’s “Breakfast League” from DCU All Star Games into this one, I have to admit. And yeah, we’re all going to see the Wonder Twins in the Arrowverse eventually, right?

And finally, if you’re curious, the character Marvin and Wendy would have a connection to would be Felicity Smoak. In the Geoff Johns-written comics, Wendy and Marvin were the children of Noah Kuttler, the Calculator, which would mean they’d be half-siblings to the Arrowverse’s most popular surprise character.

Here’s the epic Challenge of the Superfriends cartoon intro, with some music you might recognize from the end of Crisis.

Anyway, thank you for reading, and please, stay safe and healthy out there, so we can do this all again next year. And hey, sometimes these things end up happening….

2002 – Lana’s Parents Return (happened in the Smallville episode “Void”); Chloe Sullivan Is Lois Lane (sort of happened, in “Delete” and “Hex”)
aprilfoolssouthpark2003 – Ian Somerhalder To Guest Star As Bruce Wayne (he didn’t, but he did play “Adam Knight”); Chloe To Get A Spin-Off (do the Chloe Chronicles count?)
2004 – Who’s Going article with a picture of Pete; Mr. Mxyzptlk Coming To Smallville (happened in “Jinx”); Lexana: It’s Real (see Season 6)
2005 – Gough & Millar Prepare Young Aquaman Pilot (seriously, I didn’t know!); Dean Cain on Smallville (happened in “Cure”)
2006 – Christopher Eccleston To Appear As Zod (so it wasn’t Eccleston, but Zod did show in Season 9); “Bizarro” Is Coming (it happened!); Justin Hartley To Guest In Season 6 As Aquaman (so he showed up as Green Arrow instead)
2007Smallville Returns To The WB (TheWB.com now exists – and this article also mentions a Green Arrow TV show… that’ll never happen!) Tom Welling Signs Through Season 9 (if only we knew…); Clark’s Kryptonian Mother Lara To Appear (she did, but with a different actress than we suggested) Season 7 accurate predicted titles included “Bizarro” and “Kara.”
2008 – Rosenbaum Out For Season 8 (why did that one have to be true?); “Legion” listed as a predicted Season 8 episode title
2009 – Annette O’Toole Returning (it happened!); The BBC Plans Their Own Version Of Smallville (have you SEEN Merlin?)
2010 – Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders listed as writers for Episode #200. We predicted Wonder Woman would be coming to TV, but were wrong in suggesting it was going to happen on Smallville with Bridget Regan. Our only correct episode title was “Booster.”
2011 – We posted a rumor of a live-action Young Justice series, and sure enough, Titans is now on DC Universe. Oliver Queen and Dinah [Laurel] Lance have found some on-and-off love over on Arrow though now she’s dead and he’s married to Felicity Smoak.
2013 – Even though the KryptonSite April Fool went viral, Smallville didn’t return in 2014, though David S. Goyer was executive producer of a Krypton prequel series.
2014Smallville isn’t on Blu-ray yet, and we didn’t get Lois & Clark ’93, but we do have a Wonder Woman ’77 comic, and someone even pitched Batman ’89 to DC.
2015 – What, Tom Welling didn’t appear on the Supergirl pilot? Oops. But maybe he will show up on the series someday.
2016 – Supergirl hasn’t gone to Earth-Smallville yet, and Zack Snyder isn’t making a Supergirl film yet… though others might be.
2017 – Chloe Sullivan didn’t go to Legends of Tomorrow, but we did sort of get development on a Lois Lane TV series with Metropolis.
2018 – No, there isn’t a Smallville reboot on DC Universe… yet. But hey, Superman & Lois seems like it will scratch that Smallville itch we’ve been having…
2019 – Our list of guest stars for Crisis on Infinite Earths turned out to be pretty darned accurate…. we even called the Ezra Miller thing!

Thanks for coming back to the site… KRYPTONSITE STILL EXISTS!
