Two-Hour Premiere For Superman & Lois?

The CW has advertised a “two-hour premiere” for the Superman & Lois TV series.

Tonight during Batwoman, a bug appeared at the bottom right corner of the show promoting a “2-hour premiere event” for Superman & Lois on February 23. While we have known the show would premiere on that day, this is the first we are hearing of a 2-hour “event,” unless, of course, The Flash — which was also announced as premiering its new season that night — counts as part of the two hours. Or, could Superman & Lois be expanded or running two episodes and The Flash delayed until the following week?

In any event, we’ve reached out to the studio and network to find out what exactly this means… stay tuned for more details as they become available!

UPDATE: Still no official word from the studio or network, but one of the affiliates – CW18 Milwaukee – has tweeted that the “two-hour premiere event” will feature a 90-minute debut episode of Superman & Lois and a 30-minute “Legacy of Hope” special on February 23. They later also tweeted that The Flash season premiere is delayed until March 2. The posting was accompanied by the image below, which seems to make things pretty clear… (Milwaukee is in a time zone where the show starts at 7PM rather than 8PM).

Our thanks to Derek from the Superman & Lois TV Talk podcast for pointing us toward the Tweet!

UPDATE #2: This news has now been confirmed by The CW!

In SUPERMAN & LOIS, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, “Little Fires Everywhere”) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, “The Peanuts Movie”) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, “Entourage”), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, “Graceland”).

The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, “Wander Darkly”). Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, “Nip/Tuck”) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, “All American”) enters their lives. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, SUPERMAN & LOIS is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (“The Flash”) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Earlier, KryptonSite posted details on who several of the Superman & Lois Season 4 directors would be… now, we have details on two of the final episodes of the series.

Vancouver production listings have revealed Michael Cudlitz as directing for Season 4; we are assuming his episode is the season’s seventh or eighth. The director slot after him will be filled by Jai Jamison. Cudlitz, of course, stars as Lex Luthor on the show, and Jai has written several well-liked episodes of the series.

It’s quite possible those are Episodes 8 and 9 as filming is said to wrap on April 22. The final season of Superman & Lois will comprise of 10 episodes, premiering this Fall on The CW.

Douglas Smith is Jimmy Olsen in Superman & Lois Season 4

Douglas Smith has been cast as Jimmy Olsen in Superman & Lois Season 4.

It appears we’ll be seeing another live-action Jimmy Olsen before we get to Skyler Gisondo in the upcoming James Gunn Superman film, as we will also be seeing Superman’s pal in the fourth season of Superman & Lois!

TVLine is reporting that Douglas Smith (younger brother of frequent Superman & Lois director Gregory Smith) will be appearing on Superman & Lois Season 4 as the iconic Daily Planet photographer. TVLine notes that Jimmy is an extroverted 20-something “known for being the ‘life of the party’ around the office.” It’s also noted that despite being a colleague of Clark’s at work, Jimmy has been unable to get him out of his shell… which implies to us that this appearance must be in a flashback. Also: Jimmy does not know Clark’s super-secret, but is still determined to become his pal!

You can read the original TVLine post revealing this news here.

Douglas Smith’s previous TV credits include The Alienist, Big Little Lies, and Big Love. He joins a list of actors including Jack Larson, Marc McClure, Aaron Ashmore, Sam Huntington, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Landes, and Justin Whalin, all of whom have played the character in live-action before.

We’re not sure when we’ll be seeing Jimmy in Season 4, but we can tell you that the fourth season of Superman & Lois is expected to premiere this Fall on The CW.
