Superman (and Batman, and Wonder Woman) will be returning to the movies two months earlier than expected.

Warner Bros. Pictures has moved Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to March 25, 2016 – about two months earlier than we thought! It’ll bring it out of the way of Captain America 3, though no one will admit that is the reason for the change.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice – 03/25/16
Untitled DC Film – 08/05/16
Untitled DC Film – 06/23/17

The new sequel to Man of Steel – and precursor to Justice League – is coming, and today, Warner Bros. released a new photo of a brooding Superman (Henry Cavill) to promote Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

It turns out it wasn’t meant to be. (Shocker, right?)

Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) has landed the role of Lex Luthor in the Superman-Batman film which will be coming out in 2016. Kind of fitting, since he played Mark Zuckerberg in that film, himself one of the big billionaires of the modern age.

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940,” director Zack Snyder said in a statement posted on Variety. “What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

Joaquin Phoenix, who is said to be playing the villain in the Man of Steel sequel co-starring Batman, faced Superman… well, Superboy… before.

Check out this clip from the Superboy syndicated series “Little Hercules” to see what we mean:

superman-batman-alex-rossChris Terrio, who wrote the movie Argo which starred future Batman Ben Affleck, is now writing a draft of the Man of Steel sequel, which at least today is being called Batman-Superman by THR.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today.

David Goyer wrote the screenplay, and THR’s sources say Terrio is brought in “to get the script into shape before filming begins.”

gal-godot-2As if Batman vs. Superman wasn’t crowded enough with characters, it has now been confirmed and revealed by Variety that Gal Gadot has landed the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character,” Zack Snyder said in a statement.

Israel-born Gadot’s previous credits include the Fast & Furious franchise. She is 28 years old.
