Part 3 of 3 - Interview by Craig Byrne - Read Part 1 - Read Part 3

Annette O'Toole and Michael McKean return to Smallville as Martha Kent and Perry White in the new episode airing on The CW Friday night at 8PM (ET).

In the final part of this three-part interview, they talk about the possibility of returning sometime in Season 10, what it was like to return, and more.

KRYPTONSITE: If you were approached to return again in Season Ten, would you consider it if it's a good story?

ANNETTE O'TOOLE:
Sure. I'd consider it. We have a lot of other things going on, both of us, so I don't know how it would fit in, or if we could, but I love these characters, and if I could be a real part of things, the way I was on this one episode, then yes. If not, then I'd rather just leave it this one time. But I adore the crew. They work so hard. They are just amazing people. What they do in the space of however many days they take to do an episode these days, it's a miracle. I adore Tom; I always have, and everybody up there.

MICHAEL McKEAN:
It's a great bunch.

O'TOOLE: A wonderful group of people. So, we'll see. I have no idea. No one's said anything to us about it. But all I know is we had a wonderful time. I didn't expect it. I thought it was going to be weird to go back, and it was the opposite. Every day was more and more fun.

KRYPTONSITE: Back when you were doing Smallville in Season One, did you think that the show would still be around for a tenth season?

O'TOOLE:
I really didn't, because when we started it was August 2001, and once we had 9/11, I really didn't know how we were going to be able to do the travel. I didn't know how it was going to work out. But then, of course, when it kept going on and on, I just thought "eventually they're going to run out of one-word titles, and we're just going to have to leave. We're not going to do one more."

times pastMcKEAN: Hey, Pearl Jam hasn't run out of one-word titles.

O'TOOLE: But, no. It's not something you think about. Because to get four years on a series is huge. That's a big success. So, to get ten is unheard of. I couldn't imagine that these people would still want to be playing these parts. I knew I would because I was the older person, but to have young people who still want to play these parts is quite interesting. That's what is so lovely about Tom. He's as committed as ever.

McKEAN: And he's the same age.

AOT: And he's the same age. But he's just always so helpful about making things easier, like "if I turn this way, we'll get this shot here too, right." Now he's a director. So he's always seeing how things can be better done, because he's right in the middle of it. I think he'll have a great career as a director and producer.

Is there anything else that either of you wanted to add about the whole returning-to-Smallville experience?

McKEAN:
I'm sorry that we didn't get a chance to see the Steveston Cannery Museum again. Up in Vancouver, it's my favorite thing to do. The Cannery Museum, which is in Steveston, about 20 miles away or something. It's the damndest thing you've ever seen. If you're ever up there, you have to take it in.

Smallville's "Hostage" airs TONIGHT, May 7 on The CW. Read Part 3 of the interview and be sure to take a look at a gallery of preview images from "Hostage!" Special thanks go out to Michael McKean and Annette O'Toole for participating in this interview... it was a pleasure to do and hopefully those of you reading it liked it as well!
