"A Kiss" Doesn't Win An Oscar
"A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," a song written by Michael McKean (Perry) and Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent) for "A Mighty Wind," lost to "Into the West" from "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" for Best Song.

On the brighter side, we hear Annette and Michael looked terrific and were seen in many pre-show events. The fact that "Kiss" was even nominated and among the Top Five hopefully is encouraging and a big honor in itself. Hopefully their next musical movie makings will end up being Oscar-worthy as well.

Smallville Wins Two Video Effects Awards
Special thanks to: Super Dave

Two sequences from Smallville's second season won in their categories for Visual Effects Awards by the Visual Effects Society on February 19.

Winning in the category of Outstanding Matte Painting in a Televised Program, Music Video or Commercial is the sequence with Clark's leap in the episode "Insurgence" by Eli Jarra, Joseph Brattesani, and Brian Bell. In the subject of Outstanding Compositing in a Televised Program, Music Video or Commercial, it is no surprise that the 2003 KryptonSite Award winning sequence with Clark running through the rain in "Accelerate" took the win. That sequence is credited to Mat Beck, Eli Jarra, Ivan DeWolf, and Brian Harding.

Smallville was nominated in only these two categories, but won in both of them! Congratulations to the Smallville team!

Paley Festival Tickets Sold Out
The upcoming Paley Festival seminar on Smallville, featuring several members of the cast and crew and sponsored by the Museum of Television and Radio, is now sold out before tickets were even available to the general public. (Members of the Museum had the opportunity to buy tickets a week earlier than the general public; hence the quick sell out)

We will still be covering the Festival here at KryptonSite so people don't feel left out. Also, some tickets will be sold at the door the evening of the event in case there are no-shows. For more information, visit the web page of the Museum of Television & Radio.

"Sheriff Ethan" on Stargate SG-1
Smallville's former Sheriff Ethan, Mitchell Kosterman, can be seen on the February 13 and 20 episodes of Stargate SG-1 on the Sci-Fi Channel. The title of the two parter is "Heroes," and he'll play "Colonel Tom Rundell."

KryptonSite Evolves!
To think it's been three years since the icon by this headline was the banner for this website.

Anyhow, as promised, KryptonSite will be undergoing some cosmetic changes in response to your survey responses (thanks very much!) These will be the first of many new features that you hopefully will enjoy.

In response to some comments, hopefully the new KryptonSite will be a bit brighter with not so many dark colors. A link to Rumorville will be accessible from every page once this all is complete. We're also trying to not have quite so much on the main page; but a run down of other recent news can be found to your right.

In the future you will see the Spoilers page change with a listing of what date new spoilers are added. We'll work to bring you more images per episode; but no, we will not be adding trailers to the site anytime soon, as we believe video files are copyrighted material to the WB network (plus they eat a LOT of bandwidth!) We will continue to do screencap galleries of trailers, and linking to the WB when we know they have trailers up. There were also requests for a more extensive episode guide; that, too, is planned for the future.

Several people also mentioned how they'd like to see KryptonSite expand, and you can look forward to announcements on that front shortly. Already you can see our expansions towards a site about the upcoming Dark Shadows remake.

Hopefully KryptonSite can continue to be your #1 source for Smallville news and information as it has been over the years, and if you have any more requests, please send them our way (feel free to e-mail and comment on the new look while you're at it!) Some very big and nice things are coming - stay tuned!

Obviously it'll take a while for all of the pages at KryptonSite to reflect this new look, so please of course have patience! (And if the new look's a total bomb, then it's back to square one!)

- Craig Byrne, Webmaster

Episode #3-19 Tidbit
Gough also revealed a little tidbit about the 19th episode of Season Three, which at this point doesn't have a title... check that on the Spoilers page!

"A Mighty Wind" Takes A Grammy!
Special thanks to: Karen & Tara

Congratulations goes to Michael McKean ("Perry" as well as husband of "Martha Kent" herself, Annette O'Toole) for the Grammy WIN for the title song, "A Mighty Wind," for Best Song at this year's Grammys. The song was co-written by McKean with Eugene Levy and Christopher Guest.

McKean and his wife appeared on E!'s pre-Grammys coverage singing "A Kiss At The End Of The Rainbow," another "Mighty Wind" song which has been nominated for an Oscar this year. "Kiss" was written by Annette and Michael.

Finally, as if this wasn't enough good news for him, Michael will soon be Harvey Feirstein's replacement in the Tony Award winning musical "Hairspray." Hopefully once he's on a break from that he can come back as Perry. Please? :-)

Batman Prequel To Kids WB!
We may not be seeing a "Bruce Wayne"/Batman prequel television series on the WB anytime soon, but the Kids WB! will soon be doing a new Batman animated series that will take place during the Caped Crusader's early days. MediasharX has an image from the series as well as more details - click here to see it!

Smallville Nominated For Two Visual Effects Awards
In what should be seen as no real surprise considering the level of quality seen in these two sequences, two pieces from Smallville's second season have been nominated for Visual Effects Awards by the Visual Effects Society.

Nominated in the category of Outstanding Matte Painting in a Televised Program, Music Video or Commercial is the sequence with Clark's leap in the episode "Insurgence" by Eli Jarra, Joseph Brattesani, and Brian Bell. In the subject of Outstanding Compositing in a Televised Program, Music Video or Commercial, it is no surprise that the 2003 KryptonSite Award winning sequence with Clark running through the rain in "Accelerate" took a nomination. That sequence is credited to Mat Beck, Eli Jarra, Ivan DeWolf, and Brian Harding.

The awards will be on February 18. Good luck and congratulations to the nominees!

"Velocity" Guest Stars!
Special thanks to: MMAC

Wednesday's episode "Velocity" guest starred Moneca Delain as Mara, and Ryan Merriman (from last season's Veritas: the Quest) as Dante.

Moneca Delain's official website includes some photos of her on the Smallville set. You can find those photos by clicking here. You'll find not only the photo to your left, but also photos of Moneca with Sam Jones III and Ryan Merriman.

Who Was That "Hereafter" Guest Star?
A few people have e-mailed us asking who played this week's guest, Jordan Cross. The actor playing him also shares the same surname - Jordan was played by Joseph Cross, who you may remember from the movie "Jack Frost" back when he was merely 12 years old.

Joe is now 17 and occasionally appears on As The World Turns. If we had had the guest info sooner, we would have posted it!

And While We're On The Subject Of Guest Stars...
Playing "Garrett" in the upcoming episode "Resurrection" is an actor by the name of James Kirk. No, his middle name is not Tiberius as far as we know, nor has he been captain of a starship, and we can guarantee he's sick of the Star Trek jokes so James, if you're reading this, forgive us. But, he does have a tie to some previous Smallville guest stars!

James played young "Ronny Drake" in last summer's hit movie X2: X-Men United. Ronny was the younger brother of Bobby Drake/Iceman, played by two-time Smallville guest Shawn Ashmore (Eric Summers in "Leech" and "Asylum"). Bobby and Ronny's mother in that same movie was played by Jill Teed, who played Lieutenant Maggie Sawyer in the Smallville episode "Insurgence."

James also played "Travis" on the CBC series Edgemont alongside Smallville's own Kristin Kreuk. Talk about degrees of separation right there!

Kristin Kreuk
(Lana) has cameo appearance in the new movie "Eurotrip," which is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on February 20, 2004. DreamWorks, the company behind the movie, has shared with us some information about the movie:

"Eurotrip follows four recent high school grads as they backpack through Europe and find themselves in cultures vastly different from their own. Their trek takes them from London to Paris to Amsterdam to Eastern Europe exposing them - literally - to every lascivious, larcenous and lecherous indulgence Europe has to offer in a comedy that gives new meaning to the phrase "foreign relations." Eurotrip opens in theaters everywhere on February 20. It stars Michelle Trachtenberg and features Kristin Kreuk. Matt Damon, Lucy Lawless and Vinnie Jones make appearances."

They've also shared with us some photos from the movie, including one with Kristin and Matt Damon which you can find here.
