"Commencement" Preview Images!

Special thanks to George Oscar Bluth for sending these our way.

Two Actors Leaving After Season 4
Special thanks to: Chester Tate

We have just learned that two actors who you see in the opening credits of Smallville won't be back for the show's fifth season. One character was created especially for the show, and one character is quite popular among fans on the Internet.

We'll post who it will be tomorrow; don't want people to think it's an April Fool's joke or something silly like that. In the meantime, why not discuss this on the KryptonSite Message Forum?

Season 4 DVD Early Release!
The top question we've gotten all season is "When will Season 4 be coming out on DVD?" Even though it says very clearly that it "WILL NOT BE ON DVD UNTIL LATE 2005 AT THE EARLIEST! Please stop asking." But, imagine our surprise when it was announced that the Season 4 set was scheduled for a much earlier release than expected - before the whole season is completed airing or filming!

Tuesday, April 5, is the big day. You can pre-order your DVD set by clicking here. It includes the entire fourth season, including the six episodes that have yet to air. Plus, through the magic of DVD making, somehow it also includes episodes that aren't completed! "Luckily, we recovered all three of the stones - sorry Lana! - and managed to use them to travel through time and offer these special features," a representative said. "All we had to do is bellow 'Transmit my DVD's!' in Latin."

Here are some of the extras scheduled for the release:

  • Commentary for "Crusade" by actors Tom Welling and Erica Durance, and Executive Producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar
  • Commentary for "Run" by Erica Durance - because even if she's not in it, heaven forbid we have an episode where Lois doesn't take over the show.
  • Alicia Baker's Ghost (Sarah Carter) narrates "Recruit," a la Desperate Housewives. Though everyone else seemed to forget Alicia, her ghost lives on and shares several key insights into how easy it was for her ex-husband to move on after her death.
  • A set of faux-diamond earrings so you, too, can pretend to be Lex Luthor's "special friend"
  • Dog growl removed from "Krypto"
  • "On Location In Shanghai" featurette - tells the tale of the cast's trip to film on location in China for "Sacred"
  • "Nice Knowing Ya" featurette spotlighting Jensen Ackles' role as Jason Teague
  • Deleted Scene of a Lex and Lana wedding in "Scare," with necessary sickness bag for after
  • Joan Collins' comments on the similarities between Alexis Carrington and Genevieve Teague
  • DVD-Rom script feature of "Spirit," which includes Pete Ross's scenes
  • Outtakes featuring Tom Welling and only Tom Welling, in response to complaints of the Welling-free Season 3 set
  • Preview clips from Smallville Season Five
  • "Lifehouse: Live From The Talon" extra

We're sure there are many more features in this set, so remember on Tuesday to check it out! Thanks to Dee for the tips.

Click here to pre-order your copy!

Gough & Millar Prepare Young Aquaman
Hollywood Variety reports that following the conclusion of Smallville in 2006, executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will be taking on the early years of another DC Comics legend - Aquaman.

The show may become the WB's wet dream in the ratings race. It is rumored that they've already cast their boy of the month, Jesse McCartney of Summerland, in the lead role. McCartney already has plenty of experience in the water as his Summerland character is on the school surf team. Plus he will bring that much needed 9-year-old-squeeing-fangirl-saying-OMGhessohot demographic to the show's message boards.

"One must learn to paddle and stroke before they can swim," a representative from the new project said under the condition of anonymity. "This is young Arthur 'Artie' Curry's journey."

We'll be launching AquaSite in a few days. For a preview of the new site, click here.

Dean Cain On Smallville: For Real, This Time!
It has been announced that Dean Cain will be making his first Smallville appearance in this year's season finale, "Commencement." He plays Dr. Nigel Swann, son of Christopher Reeve's character who taught Clark Kent the origins of his true powers.

The character makes a brief appearance in the finale, leading up to what hopefully will be a recurring role in the show's fifth season.

Dean is best known for playing the role of Clark Kent/Superman in the popular ABC television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Lois & Clark is scheduled to come out on DVD on June 7.

Teri Hatcher was also approached to make an appearance with Dean, but responded with only the words "Hell no." Apparently Smallville couldn't come near the over-$250,000 an episode payday that Desperate Housewives brings the former Lois Lane.

Dean is actually the fourth Superman actor to appear on Smallville. Christopher Reeve played the first Dr. Swann, and Brandon Routh played Clark's future self of Superman in the episode "Forever." Welling is the fourth, obviously, in case you're trying to do maths.

To read the official press release about Dean's appearance, click here.

The WB's Supernatural A Jason Teague Spin-Off!
A new tidbit about the Supernatural series planned for Fall 2005 on the WB. We already knew this series would star Jensen Ackles (Jason) - what we didn't know is that Supernatural is actually a spin-off series featuring Jason Teague and his long-lost brother, Joe "Justice" Teague, played by Jared Padalecki.

Kristin Kreuk will appear in the show's first episode as Lana. There will also be flashbacks to the Smallville season finale which featured Isobel's final confrontation with Genevieve.

Read pilot episode spoilers by clicking here.

The Many Faces Of... Lionel Luthor
We've shown you the various actors and actresses to play Lois Lane, Lana Lang, The Flash, the Kents, Lex Luthor, even Jor-El and Lara... but Russ Dimino has done one of his best jobs yet in showing off the history of Lionel Luthor and all the various actors to play him in times past to times future, from the Adventures of Superman through to Smallville and Superman Returns. Was Lionel always so magnificent?

The WB has released their official description for "Spirit," the April 20 prom episode of Smallville.

John Glover To Emcee Alzheimer's Fundraiser
John Glover may play a magnificently evil you-know-what as Lionel on Smallville (no, we don't buy the "reformed" act), but in his personal life Glover has done a lot of charitable work to help others, particularly in benefits for the Alzheimer's Association. Every year Glover participates in the annual Memory Walk, which last year raised $25,000 thanks to "Lionel" and his legions of fans who donated to the cause.

Next up for Mr. Glover will be the Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland Chapter's Memory Ball on April 9. It will be held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.

The ball committee homes to raise $125,000. "Whenever a celebrity lends his name to an event, it is always advantageous," chairwoman Patricia Mitchell told the Towson Times' Loni Ingraham. "John Glover has been so wonderfully generous with his time."

For information about the ball or to make a donation, call the association at 410-245-4270. You can also read more information by clicking here.

Smallville Season 4 In The Fall; L&C To Include New Teri Hatcher Interviews
A recent Home Theater Forum chat that was covered by TVShowsOnDVD.com revealed some of Warner Home Video's plans for the future.

First off, Smallville Season Four is currently planned for a Fall 2005 release. No further information is available there, so no need to ask, but that's the latest. We will let you know as soon as we find out anything more.

The first season DVD set for Lois & Clark (due out June 7 - click to pre-order and support this site!) will include new interviews with Teri Hatcher. Teri played Lois Lane on the series, which ran from 1993-1997, and she's now quite popular playing Susan on Desperate Housewives.

The chat also brought out new information about other DC Comics-based series. The Flash and "lots of great DC Comics-related product coming in your future!" were listed in the "potential titles for release" category. The 1988-1992 Superboy series "will be considered," but considering the rights are owned by the Salkinds, we kind of doubt that will happen as Warner Bros. has effectively blocked it from even appearing in syndication.

There are no plans yet for Shazam! boxed sets, and there was no answer given regarding a Birds of Prey DVD release, or regarding releases for Justice League or Batman Beyond season sets.

You can read the entire article here, and Warner Home Video, if you're reading - you put Enos on DVD and you'll be my hero. Seriously!

Michael McKean, Maggie Lawson Join Pilots
Smallville's "Perry White" and a guest from "Redux" have joined two pilots for potential television series.

Michael McKean has joined the cast of a series called Blue Skies. Blue Skies is about a 27-year-old (played by Scary Movie's Anna Faris) who is the "reluctant enabler" for her eccentric family. Maggie Lawson, the Freak of the Week from "Redux," is in an ABC sitcom called Crumbs.

The Fall 2005 schedules will be announced in May, so we'll know then if these shows will hit the air. If Michael McKean's sitcom gets picked up, it could limit the chances of a Perry White return on Smallville.

Margot Kidder Interviewed For Lois Retrospective
Add another name to the Lois Lane retrospective scheduled for the Smallville Season Four DVD.

Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in four Superman movies and appeared in the Smallville episodes "Crusade" and "Transference," has also been interviewed for the Smallville Season 4 DVD set. She joins former Loises Noel Neill and Dana Delany, and current Lois Erica Durance.

A release date for the Season 4 DVD has not yet been announced. We'll let you know as soon as you do, but in the meantime, please don't e-mail us to ask because we don't know anything here.

Credit goes to the Superman Homepage for originally breaking the story of a Lois feature. The Margot information, however, is new.

"Spell" Commentary On Season 4 DVD
We've also been able to learn that the Season 4 Smallville DVD (release date still not known - probably not until very late this year!) set will have commentary for the episode "Spell."

No details, however, on who is on the commentary track. Speculate away!

Smallville Season 2 Companion Book Now Shipping!
Titan's official Smallville Season 2 companion book, written by Paul Simpson, has now begun shipping from Amazon.com.

The book takes a look at the second season of Smallville, from behind the scenes to the actual final shows. The entire cast and many members of the Smallville crew are interviewed. If you have read the Season 1 book, you'll have an idea of what to expect.

Season 2 is the year that gave us blind Lionel, Kyla the skinwalker, Dr. Helen Bryce, hormone-inspired heat vision, meteor shower aftermath, Clana by the oak tree, and more, but of course the highlight was the appearance of the late Christopher Reeve as Dr. Virgil Swann. This companion book appears to be a good companion to it all. Click to order and support this site!

New Kristin Kreuk Interview Online!
Special thanks to: Mark @ HNR

The Hollywood North Report website has posted a new interview with Kristin Kreuk by Robert Falconer. It is an extended version of an interview recently in Dreamwatch magazine.

In the interview, Kristin talked about her favorite episodes, her other series Edgemont, her hobbies, practical jokes, and more. Here's a sample of what she had to say:

"I think really through season one in general—and this is going to perhaps seem like a vague answer—I was struggling a lot with the character of Lana because I couldn’t relate to her fully, and I would think back to my acting classes that I took all through high school where we had free reign over characters. We took those characters and created them by ourselves, and we made them into full people by writing up epic studies of their traits and giving them histories and so forth. With Lana I felt a little stuck because I was following what was on the page, and I remember discussing this with Allison [Mack] who has helped me a lot. And she said to me, 'Well it’s up to you to shape these characters. You can’t wait for someone else to do that for you. Then, the writers will follow your lead.' Which I didn’t understand at all [laughs]. So that’s a big lesson that I learned…and continue to learn in a lot of ways."

Michael Rosenbaum at Celebrity Hockey Game
Special thanks to: CookoftheHouse

Michael Rosenbaum participated in a 2005 Celebrity Hockey Challenge in Seattle over the past weekend. The Challenge raised money to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Here's more of what Heather, a.k.a. Cook, who attended the game, had to say:

"This is THE charity for Rosenbaum; his brother Eric played with him for the first time this year; Michael was extremely gracious with his fans, extremely hilarious with Tom Arnold, and extremely comfortable on the ice; when he made his goal, they played "Save Me" over the speaker system; at one point, when Michael's team was behind, Tom Arnold said (both of the coaches had microphones with which to narrate the game) that he wondered if they could get Tom Welling to play next year; Michael's team lost 8-7, but everyone had a great time."

Kristin Kreuk In Canadian TV Guide
Special thanks to: WTRM

Kristin Kreuk's hopes for Smallville's future are a bit rosier than her Lex Luthorian co-star.

"I think we'll be around for three or four more seasons, maybe even longer - who knows?" she says in the March 19, 2005 of the Canadian editions of TV Guide. (Interior content in Canadian TV Guide is different from what we have in the States - which means, while folks up north get nifty things like a "Jay and Silent Bob On Degrassi" cover, we won't).

Kristin also talked about her upcoming feature film, "Partition." "I'm so excited about 'Partition'," KK told TV Guide about her upcoming film, a love story set at the border of Pakistan and India.

"Ageless" Guests!

The twins playing baby Evan in a sequence of "Ageless" will be Libby and Owen Stewart. Their mother posted the following account on their website:

"I had the opportunity to meet John Schneider aka Bo Duke! He's a super nice guy. We had a short chat about kids after he introduced himself. Then I met Tom Welling. Again, a super nice guy. During run through, he dropped the doll on the floor to freak me out. Yeah - very funny! Okay, it was a little funny once I realised it wasn't part of the actual scene. haha Libby seemed rather smitten by him. When we were filming as she stopped being fussy the second he picked her up. I also had a brief chat with Kristen Kreuk, who is also really nice. Annette O'Toole, yet another wonderfully friendly actress, and I had a chat about parenting and how cute the babies are."

A Season 2 collection of Challenge of the Super Friends and a third volume of Batman: The Animated Series are also coming soon to stores. The Super Friends set continues the series featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the 1970's-era Justice League of America against the nasty Legion of Doom. Batman Vol. 3 finishes the classic 1990's Batman Animated series which featured the voice talents of folks such as Mark Hamill and Smallville's John Glover.

Like the Dukes set, pre-order information is not yet available, but we'll keep you updated. Previous sets are currently available, and orders help support this site: Super Friends Season 1 - Batman Vol. 1 - Batman Vol. 2 - Superman Vol. 1

Tom Welling Lost In "The Fog"
Special thanks to: Jcmaguire & James

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed a report posted earlier this week on tomwelling.org that Tom Welling has landed the lead role in an upcoming film remake of John Carpenter's "The Fog."

The movie is about a "ghastly fog" that attacks a small, remote town, and it is set to be directed by Rupert Wainwright ("Stigmata"). Tom plays a local boat owner who never left the town, and the movie also stars Maggie Grace of ABC's Lost. (She plays Shannon on Lost - and is rumored to be romantically linked with Lost co-star and former Smallville guest Ian Somerhalder. It all comes together!)

KryptonSite Expands!
As if KryptonSite's webmaster Craig didn't have enough to be doing already... he's gone and gotten himself hooked on yet another TV series.

We are now happy to add NeptuneSite, focusing on UPN's Veronica Mars, to the KryptonSite "family" of web sites.

We hear the hesitation now. "They're supporting the Chloe rip-off!" Although once you watch the show and get sucked into the stories and the characters within, you'll realize Veronica and Chloe are two VERY different beings. Both incredibly intelligent and having flippy blond hair, but still, they're not the same character. Either way, we hope you'll check out NeptuneSite and give Veronica Mars a try. It's a great show, just not enough people seem to know about it yet! That's where the site comes in. Of course, this will mean no changes for KryptonSite and our top-notch Smallville coverage... just another web destination for you all to go to. Enjoy!
