Superman & Lois: Bitsie Tulloch on Season 4 Uncertainty & James Gunn

Bitsie Tulloch recently discussed the wait for Superman & Lois Season 4 renewal news and James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film.

Published

The Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch panel at the recent Superman Celebration was full of insights about Superman & Lois and teasers for Season 4 — you can read more of our coverage of the event here. One aspect we did not cover, though, was Tulloch discussing the uncertainty about whether there would be a Season 4 or not — and what she thinks of James Gunn having a new Superman movie in 2025 which will star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

“We did sort of end early,” Tulloch admitted, before heaping praise on the next director to bring Superman to the screen once Superman & Lois has concluded. “I’ve met James Gunn. I adore him. I think he’s really smart. I think he’s a wonderful visionary, and I’m looking forward to seeing his Superman movie, and I’m looking forward to seeing Rachel Brosnahan, who’s going to be the next Lois Lane,” Bitsie said, acknowledging that all of these actors are part of a line, and there will be another Lois Lane after Brosnahan, just like there were Loises before her, and affirming that there’s always been a reverence to previous Lois Lanes in her performance.

Tulloch talked about how at the previous year’s Superman Celebration, Tyler Hoechlin was on stage and very nervous, because at the time, he did not know if the show would be renewed for Season 4 or not. “We couldn’t believe that we didn’t know that late,” she recalled. “My husband and I were in we’re still in Vancouver, just because our daughter was in preschool. and I’m like, ‘I can’t believe they’re telling us this late~ Are we getting renewed or not?’ It started to feel like that might be it, which was a bummer, because you all saw the end of Season 3 with Doomsday, and then it just goes to black, and I was just thinking, ‘my God, if that’s the end of this series, that’s so annoying. More annoying than the Sopranos ending or the LOST ending. It’s just this’!”

Eventually, Bitsie got a call from a producer at Greg Berlanti’s production studio, who assured her that everyone loves the show, and it will be back for a smaller, 10-episode season. “It was exciting being able to finish the show,” she said.

Superman & Lois Season 4: Bitsie Tulloch on Returning Cast

Elizabeth Tulloch talked about returning cast members for Superman & Lois Season 4 at the recent Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois.

Fans of Superman & Lois were excited to learn the now Nexstar-controlled CW Network had renewed the show for a fourth season, but some of that excitement was tempered a bit when it was learned that a majority of the series regular actors would not be back in that capacity in the future. Fortunately, word has come that all of them will be guest starring at one time or another, and at the recent Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois, Lois Lane herself, Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch, revealed some good news.

“So everybody was sad that so much of the cast got cut,” she admitted before confirming that they all would be in the final season, but to a lesser extent.

“I think the way they wrote it actually is lovely, and at least one of the series regulars that was dropped is in every single of the 10 episodes. So it doesn’t feel like, oh, all of a sudden, it’s just the four [members of the] Kent family. Everyone makes appearances. They did a really beautiful job,” she said.

Returning as series regulars for Superman & Lois Season 4 are Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent/Superman), Bitsie Tulloch (Lois Lane), Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent), Michael Bishop (Jonathan Kent), and Michael Cudlitz (Lex Luthor). Recurring cast who were former series regulars that we will be seeing again as guest stars include Dylan Walsh (Sam Lane), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing), Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo), and Inde Navarrette (Sarah Cortez).

Is Superman & Lois Starting Season 4 with “The Death of Superman?”

Bitsie Tulloch may have hinted at “The Death of Superman” to kick off Superman & Lois Season 4 this Fall.

Published

Season 3 of Superman & Lois ended with what looked like a fatal showdown between Superman and Doomsday, reminiscent of the events of the legendary Superman #75 comic book by Dan Jurgens over 30 years ago. Now, some new comments from Bitsie Tulloch combined with some analysis from our good friend Ben Rolph of the Ben’s Take YouTube channel (formerly TheDCTVShow) begs the question: Is Superman & Lois adapting “The Death of Superman” in Season 4?

In the original comics, the Death of Superman was followed by an acclaimed storyline called “Funeral for a Friend” as the folks in Superman’s orbit as well as the people of the Daily Planet deal with the loss of Metropolis’ greatest hero. That led months later to a “Reign of the Supermen” story where four folks – including John Henry Irons, making his first comic book appearances – tried to become Metropolis’ new hero, with some including the Cyborg Superman claiming to the the real steel deal.

So what made Ben think they’re going full force into “Death of Superman” territory, and why do we agree with him?

Bitsie Tulloch recently appeared at the Metropolis Celebration in Illinois this past weekend, and she made a certain major tease:

“You guys are not going to believe the first episode,” she teased. “It’s bananas. It’s emotional. What they did was based on one of the comics. It was a very bold decision on their part to do to do this and to pull it off for the first episode of Season 4.”

Bold decision? Based on the comics? Killing Superman would be pretty darned bold, yeah?

You can watch video of Bitsie’s panel below, courtesy of the Superman Homepage, and then leave some thoughts in the comments! Superman & Lois Season 4 – the show’s final season – is scheduled to premiere this Fall on The CW.
