Michael Rosenbaum Passes On Crisis On Infinite Earths

While Smallville’s “Clark Kent” and “Lois Lane” Tom Welling and Erica Durance will be reprising their roles for the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, there is one who won’t be making it to the party: Michael Rosenbaum, who brilliantly played Lex Luthor for the first seven seasons of the series as well as the series finale.

Michael made the announcement on Twitter.

“Friends, many of you have tweeted and asked me about joining the Infinite Crossover,” Michael wrote. “I can’t tell you how much this means to me.”

“I’ll just be straight up about this,” Michael said. “WB called my agents Friday afternoon when I was in Florida visiting my grandfather in a nursing home. Their offer: No Script. No idea what I’m doing. No idea when I’m shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the ass ‘We have to know now.’ My simple answer was ‘Pass.’ I think you can understand why. I hope this answers all of your questions,” he wrote. “Lovingly, Rosenbaum.”

While we are still holding out hope something will work out, as they did for the Smallville series finale back in 2001, we respect Michael’s honesty in why he chose not to move forward, especially when he is taking time to spend with his grandfather in a nursing home. Michael still continues to show his love and appreciation for Smallville in the form of several convention appearances in a year, as well as guests on his acclaimed Inside of You podcast.

The Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover begins in December on The CW.
