Krypton Will Not Be Tied To The DC Extended Universe

Considering that Krypton comes from Executive Producer David S. Goyer who also wrote the cinematic feature Man of Steel, many had assumed that the upcoming Syfy television series would be tied to the DC Extended Universe of movies. Goyer himself said in an early interview that the series “takes place 200 years before Man of Steel,” perhaps further fueling that fire.

There’s also the matter of early imagery and promotion of the Krypton series, including a leaked trailer early on, which definitely featured the family crest of the House of El as seen in Man of Steel.

Now, just as Syfy has announced a March 21 premiere date for Krypton, ComicBook.com has gotten confirmation from Syfy that the series will not be tied to the DC Extended Universe, surely freeing up the series to do some very different things, but also allowing explanation for how, say, the ancestors of Zod look nothing like Michael Shannon.

One might also notice that the latest promotional artwork for Krypton features an “S” that doesn’t look exactly like what we saw in the movies. You can see that artwork below.

Finally, before anyone asks: No, Krypton is also not tied to Supergirl, Smallville, or any of the other DC TV projects that have arrived in the past or the present. It is its own new thing. So, don’t go expecting Tyler Hoechlin or Melissa Benoist showing up, nor Tom Welling or anyone like that, unless, of course, they are playing different characters from the ones they have played before.
