Krypton: “Alura Zod” Is Now “Jayna Zod”

When casting announcements for the upcoming Syfy television series Krypton were first going out, the character played by Ann Ogbomo was listed as playing “Alura Zod.” Fans of the Super-franchise — particularly those who watch Supergirl regularly — noted that “Alura” must be a common name on Krypton, as Supergirl’s Kryptonian mother was also named Alura.

Well… it turns out that common name thing isn’t happening after all: When Krypton premieres on March 21, the mother of Lyta Zod once known as “Alura Zod” in pre-production is now called Jayna Zod. Here’s how Syfy describes the character:

Jayna-Zod is the leader of Kandor’s Military guild and Lyta’s mother. She has dedicated her life to protecting the city from threats within and without. She wants nothing more than to leave behind a legacy of ironclad duty.

No word yet on if Jayna has a brother named Zan. You can see Jayna Zod and the other Zod-balls on Krypton Wednesdays on Syfy starting March 21.
