In Search of Lost Time: Supergirl EP on Kara/Mon-El Developments
Supergirl Executive Producer Robert Rovner previews Kara and Mon-El developments happening in the episode “In Search of Lost Time.”
The Monday, April 23 episode of Supergirl titled “In Search of Lost Time” has a title that could refer to several different parts of the plot, as the series focuses on the challenges of several relationships in the show. The memory issues of M’yrnn and how J’onn and the others are an issue, but there’s also the matter of the lost time and things unsaid between Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Mon-El (Chris Wood). Finally, there’s the matter of Sam (Odette Annable) who literally has lost time when she has converted into Reign.
As such, some conversations and revelations that had not come to light prior to Monday night’s story will come to the surface — including some resolution for some of the awkwardness and issues between former romantic partners Kara and Mon-El.
“The way that their relationship ended at the end of Season 2, they never really had a chance to break up,” Supergirl Executive Producer Robert Rovner said during a recent Q&A to promote the show. “Things that might have been said under other circumstances, they didn’t have the opportunity to say, so we all felt that it was important for Kara to really get everything off her chest for them really to move forward in a new friendship and on a clean slate. This episode was allowing us to do that, to let everything be said that needed to be said so that they’d finally move forward.”
“It’s an emotionally charged episode where we have J’onn facing his father’s illness head-on and being forced to deal with that, and we have Kara and Mon-El starting to train together. Aside from the emotional stuff and the breakthrough that they have in the episode, we’re really excited by the cape magic that we saw in the previous episode,” he added.
And on the subject of capes… was giving Mon-El his more traditional look something the producers had been planning all along?
“It was something that we wanted to do, and we wanted to make it part of his journey and his story with Kara,” Rovner said. “So we’re excited to be able to have him be his more traditional, heroic Mon-El that I think the fans are excited to see, and we were excited to see, as well.”

The CW has released photos to promote the November 25 episode of Superman & Lois called “To Live and Die Again!” It’s the penultimate episode, and it’s written and directed by Jai Jamison! Here are the photos; most of them feature Tyler Hoechlin and Michael Cudlitz as Superman and Lex Luthor.

Rovner gave a non answer as to whether they were planning Mon-el’s hero and suit “all along”. I think they were and it hasn’t panned out the way they thought, so it has been held back until just now. And I don’t think all the fans are looking forward to it, probably just the actor and some around him. Comic version of Mon-el was very different and is what they should have gone with. I hope Kara tells him off, though.
