[April Fool’s 2013] EXCLUSIVE: Smallville Returns To The CW Spring 2014… But There’s A Catch

The CW is reviving Smallville for early 2014.

Published

on

DISCLAIMER: This was KryptonSite’s 2013 April Fool’s page. This is NOT ACTUALLY HAPPENING!

Those of you who have wanted to launch a Kickstarter campaign to get a Smallville movie of some sort, in the way that fans have funded a return for Veronica Mars, you really won’t have to: The CW is revisiting one of their most popular and enduring hits — one that has been quite popular around these parts.

KryptonSite has uncovered intel that the network is nearing an official deal for 13 episodes of a Smallville continuation, titled Metropolis, to begin airing in Spring 2014… and that to maintain a connection between the show and the movie series’ continuity, feature writer David S. Goyer will be writing the first episode back. Additionally, other creative forces behind Man Of Steel will be behind the reboot, as most of the original Smallville writers have now moved on to other projects including Beauty And The Beast and Defiance.

Why Spring 2014? That’s the amount of time they would need for Goyer’s script, as he is quite busy with features, and since this would effectively be a TV show about Superman, time would be needed to put together the show’s extensive visual effects.

The decision to revive Smallville is said to be inspired by the success of Arrow and the very positive response to early screenings of Man Of Steel, and our sources say that Bryan Q. Miller’s Smallville Season 11 comic book stories will remain a part of the continuity, much like the Star Trek animated series of the 1970’s remained a part of that one.

All good news comes with a down side (or two), though. As this series is about Superman, and the actor has long claimed he would not wear tights, Tom Welling has declined to be a part of these new episodes and the role of Clark Kent/Superman will have to be recast. Producers are hopeful, though, that Tom will come back to direct, and Tom has expressed interest in becoming involved in that capacity. DC Entertainment and the television studio have also declined the allow the use of the Green Arrow character as they worry it would cause confusion with Arrow. As a result, the fate of Smallville’s Oliver Queen will have to be wrapped within the Smallville Season 11 comics before the show premieres.

All is not bad, though: Negotiations are already underway to bring Erica Durance, Allison Mack, Aaron Ashmore, and Michael Rosenbaum (!!) back to their classic roles, and our spies tell us that the producers hope to get Annette O’Toole and her real life husband, Michael McKean back for a multi-episode arc as Martha Kent and Perry White. In an interesting turn of events considering that his character can’t be used and all, Justin Hartley is being considered for a role that’s being code-named “Simon Weird” — if that is not code for “Adam Strange,” making that the third DC Comics hero for Justin to play, I don’t know what is. Casting breakdowns for five new characters — Conner, Tana, Cassie, Lori, and Simon — make us think that a “younger generation” component will be involved as well. With these younger characters, we wonder out loud how much the classic cast will be a part of this.

Stay tuned for more details about this project as they become available. You can also sign up to get instant updates here. Other media outlets: before you share this information, please be sure to read this page first.

I swear if this is an april fools joke, I’m going to cry like a baby. I didn’t miss an episode of Smallville in the whole 10 seasons. In fact I went from age 14 to 24 watching it. The fact that Welling will not reprise his role because he doesn’t want to wear tights… Why did he audition for a Superman character if he wasn’t willing to wear a suit and cape? Can’t they make something that isn’t tights? haha

    • Larry

      April 1, 2013 at 6:08 pm

Tom said that he wouldn’t wear the tights either after meeting Christopher Reever or when Christopher Reeve died, one of the two. But as mr Reeve gave him his blessing while alive I think he should And it wont be a smallville continuation without him in the lead role tho.

I would love to believe that, however being that it is April 1st…. that said, if it were true, it would definitely lose something if it didn’t have Tom Welling. Fortunately since it is April 1st, that won’t be a concern. :)

    April 1, 2013 at 4:41 pm

If the rest of the cast is coming back then Tom needs to suck it up and get his *** in some tights. But it looks to much like april fools.

This better be a joke. Tom Welling is the only Superman. To do a Smallville continuation without him is blasphemy. Do a Superman show, whatever, tie it to the movies, whatever, but DON’T MESS WITH SMALLVILLE

    April 1, 2013 at 5:07 pm

If Tom Welling doesn’t want to be a part of these new episodes and the role of Clark Kent/Superman, they should see if Brandon Routh would like to fill the roll, its not that Tom Welling won’t wear tights he probably just wants more money.

  20. tom

    April 1, 2013 at 5:08 pm

if this is true. it’s super awesome. however it will definitely wont be the same without tom welling.

  28. Matt

    April 1, 2013 at 5:51 pm

Even if this is real. It just wont be the same without tom welling as clark/superman, in my opinion. through the first 10 seasons he has become attached to that roll in my mind, so I will now find it hard to accept another actor as a replacement.

  29. Mark McKeown

    April 1, 2013 at 5:52 pm

Kryptonsite always had the best April Fools when SV was still on the air. Such as the season 5 DVD being released months early, yet still containing episodes that hadn’t even been shot yet lol.

  39. jason matthews

    April 1, 2013 at 7:32 pm

even if this is a joke (nice one by the way) fooled me for a sec. the idea is out their i think this could make alot of money for them if they really pulled this off. the man of steel movie that will be released soon will be a whole different approach of superman itself honestly smallville 10 seasons in my mind was better then lois and clark adventuers and the superman returns movie while back. if they could approach these episodes, tom welling would have to be superman hands down if it had to be some one it should only be him and know one else, to make this happen if not dont attempt it for sure, hell add muscle detail to the tights to make it look cool if thats what tom is worried about. but yeah lets make this happen who agrees with me!!! anyone

  40. Morten

    April 1, 2013 at 7:40 pm

I’ve been waiting for this news story since this morning :P
Anyone up for creating a real kick-starter for this? DO IT!!!

    • Craig Byrne

      April 1, 2013 at 7:59 pm

A kickstarter campaign for a Smallville movie would be ultimately fruitless. Warner Bros. has their Man Of Steel movie they want to promote, but beyond that, believe me, if the studio and the actors wanted to do more Smallville, it would happen, because the show was and would continue to be very profitable. They don’t need to leech after fans’ money to make it happen.

  41. Cindy

    April 1, 2013 at 7:48 pm

I hope Tom changes his mind because i think its going to be hard for the fans to watch season 11 and see a different clark kent. Why not let him just wear some red skinny jeans and a red superman t shirt. They dont have to follow the exact costume.

  42. Deni

    April 1, 2013 at 7:51 pm

I hope this is not a joke. It would be amazing to see the cast back. And another thing: PLEASE, TOM, COME BACK! Clark Kent wouldn’t be the same. After Christopher Reeve, Tom Welling is the best Clark Kent I’ve ever seen :)

  43. Helen

    April 1, 2013 at 8:00 pm

This is a mean April Fool’s Joke!

  44. JR

    April 1, 2013 at 8:11 pm

It won’t be quite be Smallville without Tom. He brought a depth and honesty and realty to Clark Kent/Superman that I haven’t seen since or will probably never be again.

  45. manny

    April 1, 2013 at 8:37 pm

no tom welling means no true smallville tom welling is the only true clark kent of this generation

    • Craig Byrne

      April 1, 2013 at 8:39 pm

Manny – there have been many “true Clark Kents” of this generation. Tom, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, Christopher Reeve, Gerard Christopher, John Haymes-Newton… if animated stuff counts people like Tim Daly, George Newbern and Matt Bomer would count too.

      • Thomas

        April 2, 2013 at 2:29 am

Henry Cavill hasn’t actually been a Superman yet. We haven’t seen all of the new Man Of Steel flick, so until then, he can’t count as someone who is favored, not all the way.
But I am one of those guys who prefers Tom over all mentioned.

        • James

          April 2, 2013 at 3:24 pm

Well as much as I loved Smallville, Tom was not nearly the best Superman. I would have to hand it over to George Reeve with Christopher Reeves as a close second. (And no I don’t consider any voice actors as a superman. anyone can stand at a mic and talk as any character. It takes body language from a real person to make the character “real”)

  46. Maasaloo

Dude that’s a terrible joke I believed it until I read the comments, come on that’s not cool.

Second, a superman TV series could have some merit

Third, if it was based on smallville then it needs Tom in it.

  48. noggenfogger

tom is a really good Clark/superman much better than the guy that did the newest superman films. he should grow up and grow a pair, i never missed one episode and i am now showing it to my girl friend and she is loving every mins of it i really hope this is no prank SMALLVILLE is the BEST!!

    April 1, 2013 at 10:56 pm

tom welling is such an idiot for not wanting to wear the damn tights

  57. Nery

    April 1, 2013 at 11:37 pm

I want this to be real (although the season 11 comics are doing a good job at giving me my Smallville fix) but the fact Tom would come back to direct but not come back as Superman when damn near everyone else is coming back seems shady. Also having Justin come back as someone else seems weird because everyone’s just going to see him as the Green Arrow. Also the fact they’re making this due to Arrow’s success when Arrow was created due to Smallville’s success seems strange. So I’m saying it’s an April fools joke but hope like hell it’s real and Tom comes back as the man of steel.

April fools. So many details on everything but virtually impossible to make, and pointless. Fun to read though.

  62. Skeptical

    April 2, 2013 at 12:05 am

I’ll believe this, if there are future news/rumors after today. IF this is true, there’s a good chance it might fail. Smallville didn’t end the way I hoped it would and felt rushed, but it was alright and should be left alone. It pretty much centered on the story of how Clark grew into Superman and in my opinion, anything dealing with Superman should only be continued on the big screen or animated films/shows. A television series requires too much, while a film or film trilogy can center on one plot per film. As for an animated show, they have much more freedom and can bring more to the table. Although, if it’s done right, it can be a major success. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see if this is just an April fools joke or reality.

Only children take part in April Fool’s Day.

I only saw this because it was in my Facebook newsfeed. While I wasn’t extremely excited like some, the fact that it is a joke really lowers Kryptonsite’s future credibility in my opinion. I have a sense of humor, but not for fake news stories that could possibly be true (news stories containing obvious fiction, such as flying pigs or other extreme examples, can be funny).

    • Craig Byrne

      April 2, 2013 at 2:50 am

It really lowers KryptonSite’s future credibility, Jen? Honestly?

The site has been doing April Fool’s since before Smallville even premiered. I later wrote the companion books for four seasons of the show. If KryptonSite was not considered a “credible” source, then I would have never had that privilege to write them.

I take pride in that, for 364 days a year, with maybe a random hiccup if I get or myself believe some false info, or if a spoiler had changed, KryptonSite had always been accurate. But for that one other day… let me have some fun. Last year, I mostly skipped April Fool’s, and I was getting questions of “why didn’t you?”

Don’t think I’ll change your mind on that, but no, I am not concerned about credibility issues because 95% of anyone who has ever gone to KryptonSite knows that if it’s April 1st, there is something that’s not right going on.

    • Craig Byrne

      April 2, 2013 at 2:54 am

Also, the “children” comment is quite offensive and clearly from someone who needs to go out and have some fun. :) Take a joke! Especially since, uh, Smallville coming back for more episodes IS obvious fiction, when Warner Bros. has their own Superman franchise they want to take off… aside from Noel Neill returning as Lois Lane in the Adventures of Superman, it has never happened where an old version of the franchise has been “brought back.” Kirk Alyn led to George Reeves, and later Christopher Reeve, then Dean Cain, and Tom Welling. We can’t really count Brandon Routh either since he was in the middle of when the Welling era was going on, but the nature of projects like these is to move on and have fun.

I have no doubt that we’ll, say, see Erica Durance in a Superman related project someday. But for this story to actually happen would be something along the lines of pigs flying, yes, so I don’t really agree with or understand your logic.

  69. Peter

    April 2, 2013 at 1:22 am

So I only read the first paragraph and it does suck that it is obviously an April fools… Also note that

“that to maintain a connection between the show and the movie series’ continuity, feature writer David S. Goyer will be writing the first episode back.”
But they decide to give him his red underwear(overwear) again?

    :(

  70. billy

smallville is nothing without tom welling being superman and having someone else play him will make smallville seem like a whole different show

this is a joke without tom welling I dont think this show will get the reponse it would deserve and this better not be a joke… and if tom welling wont continue as clark kent then they should get Matt Dallas to play Clark.

  75. Mars

    April 2, 2013 at 3:14 am

I don’t agree with this. Smallville had a good run. Poor Tom was tethered to that show for 10 years, I’m not surprised he doesn’t want to revamp the character. I loved Smallville, but they ran it far too long for my liking.

  76. Alyssa

    April 2, 2013 at 3:23 am

I kinda figured this was fake considering they said aaron ashmore would reprise his role. 1, he’s on the new show with kevin bacon (the following) and 2, his character jimmy olson was a gone pecan.

    • Craig Byrne

      April 2, 2013 at 3:32 am

It’s Shawn who is on The Following (Aaron’s brother), but yeah, it is an April Fool fake.

it would be great, well written for an april fools prank, the details are nice touches.

  78. Roni

    April 2, 2013 at 3:35 am

Without Tom welling they shouldn’t even do this! He is the only one who should be playing that part if this is true. I understand he wants to not get into tights but considering how long the fans kept his show going he should suck it up and do this for the fans who supported him playing this role for over 10 years

  79. Priscilla

    April 2, 2013 at 3:50 am

Tom you have to come back!!!

  80. Kat

    April 2, 2013 at 4:48 am

wow..some of you guys are so gullible! even i know this was a JOKE! If anything…Tom said a Smallville movie can possibly happen, but that’s it..and that was like 2 years ago. I’m pretty sure he’s way more into directing/producing and doing different roles now. For 10 years he’s been known as Smallville Clark Kent/Red Blue Blur/The Blur/future Superman. Give the guy a BREAK. As well as the other actors/actresses in Smallville. As appreciative as they are all for getting to play such iconic and unique roles…they all need to move on..and we as Smallville fans need to move on. There’s still the Smallville Season 11 comics..and hey..if anything..I’ll take Tom in that offer for a Smallville movie..TV MOVIE..or whatever. Heck if they even think about bringing back a Superman series on tv..it would be awesome to have Tom make an appearance just like Christopher Reeve’s did in Smallville. How about Superboy? So the old characters can all make appearances? that makes sense to me. But nothing full blown like a comeback season. Smallville is over guys..as much as we love it.

    • Craig Byrne

      April 2, 2013 at 4:50 am

Kat, agreed. I could see another Superman show someday, where Tom and Erica and who knows who else might guest star… but I don’t think Smallville the series will be back in televised form.

Tom…I am the biggest Superman fan and I loved the Smallville series. The fans would like you to be back as Superman, not direct, not do anything else than be the Man of Steel. It wouldn’t be Smallville without you!!! And if this is a joke, this was a sick April Fools’ Joke.

This better not be a joke and I swear if Tom Welling does not pick up where he left off I’m going to be very upset. Smallville has been my favorite show since I started watching it at 15 years old. I have never missed an episode and own every season. I am no some crazy fan, well maybe a little, I’d do anything to meet the cast.

10 years of an amazing show can not just be picked up with a different Superman. I was also highly disappointed with the casting for the new Superman movie. Smallville ended perfectly to transition into a movie.

I really hope it isn’t over Tom not willing to wear tights. Because we need a new superman. We can’t have 3. Christopher Reeves himself appeared in Smallville as Dr. Swan. If he would have someone take his place as the new legend it would and shower be Tom Welling.

Superman Returns I have to say I was very upset with. The actor doesn’t even look like a superman let alone a super hero. I do feel that the new movie coming out this summer will be much better due to the content of the whole Origin of Superman as they have been doing with other superhero movies lately. I still wish Tom Welling was cast in that as well.

So Tom don’t disappoint your fans of 10+ years. Get in those tights and save us <3

“Justice” Wasn’t Smallville’s Only Justice League Spinoff Attempt

The Smallville Season 6 episode “Justice” may not have been the only time a Justice League spinoff was proposed.

Published

on

A 2016 KryptonSite post where we shared outtakes from the Smallville: The Official Companion Season 6 book in which Smallville producer/director/writer Steven DeKnight talked about the possibilities that the “Justice” episode could lead to a spinoff has recently been discussed in several places on the Internet, and what wasn’t really talked about in that post is that it wasn’t the only time a Justice League-like spinoff from Smallville had been proposed.

The most commonly known possibility aside from “Justice” has been spoken about on the record by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. One place that this proposal was talked about was in an interview with author/journalist Ed Gross in his “Voices From Krypton” magazine published in 2006.

In the story relayed by Alfred Gough in the magazine, he and Miles had pitched a Lois Lane series in 2000, before they even came on for Smallville. Instead, of course, they found out they could pitch Smallville, and the rest was history, but five years later, Warner Bros. contacted the producers and asked about the Lois Lane idea again, since by this point the world of Smallville already had a Lois Lane in Erica Durance.

“We thought we couldn’t do the idea we were going to do five years earlier,” Gough explained, as the original Lois Lane pitch was an “Ally McBeal meets Nancy Drew” type show in which she would solve Night Stalker-like cases – especially since there were other shows that were doing the same thing by that point. Gough and Millar have since talked about how they wanted to pair Lois Lane with some young heroes in Metropolis, which may have been part of the project’s downfall. “Ultimately, we wanted too many characters from the DC Universe and the feeling was that it would change the Metropolis mythology, even though this was all pre-Superman. It wasn’t really the Superman movie [Superman Returns] that was the problem, it was more because we wanted characters that they feared would alter the mythology of Metropolis. So that was dead in the water,” Gough said. Warner Bros.’ Peter Roth would again approach the producers, though, when the episode “Aqua” aired, and that ultimately led to the development of the Aquaman series, though, of course, that wasn’t directly tied to Smallville and Justin Hartley replaced Alan Ritchson in the role. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves…

The next proposal, mentioned above, would have spun out of “Justice” and involved Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) and some other young heroes in Metropolis, borrowing a little bit from that Lois Lane idea. You can read Steven DeKnight’s thoughts about that here. At the time, DeKnight sounded optimistic as if a spinoff could someday still happen; unfortunately, that wasn’t something he would have been able to do himself as he departed Smallville in 2007 for the short-lived Viva Laughlin; he later had great success with Spartacus a few years later. But… this might not have been the only time Smallville attempted to spin off the Justice League.

The Season 7 episode “Siren” saw the return of Oliver Queen and in that episode, we also met Dinah Lance a.k.a. the Black Canary. Their departure at the end of the episode felt like it was setting up a spinoff, but as far as we know at the time that wasn’t a concern, especially as the episode was written prior to a writers’ strike that derailed the TV season. However, a series of events around the Season 8 premiere “Odyssey” have inspired some still-unconfirmed rumors that are worth discussing.

For starters, after The CW signed Justin Hartley to a talent deal and he had done two other pilots for the network, Smallville was able to get him back, this time as a series regular for Seasons 8-10. Season 8 was a period of major change for the show following the departures of Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, and John Glover, so an additional familiar face was nice to see around. Fellow Justice Leaguers Black Canary and Aquaman were also present for that Season 8 premiere… and, oddly, there was a series of promotional photos that featured the characters. This is odd in the sense that usually, these kinds of photo shoots are only done for series regulars. Also odd is that these photos were used for a Smallville Season 8 “poster” that also included series regulars Tom Welling, Erica Durance, and Allison Mack. We get why Justin Hartley would be on the poster, but why were Alaina Huffman (Black Canary) and Alan Ritchson (Aquaman) there?!?!

That leads us to the first rumor, which again, is unconfirmed: We once heard talk that a Justice League mini-pilot was actually shot following the filming of “Odyssey,” using Hartley, Huffman, and Ritchson who were already in Vancouver to film. Aside from the photo gallery, though, we haven’t seen any proof that this actually happened. Do note that this may not have had much conflict with George Miller’s proposed Justice League movie around that time, which mostly involved other characters.

The second thing might have some legs, but if it was a serious proposal, it was never shot: As the end of filming for Season 8 approached, Tom Welling still had not signed a contract for Seasons 9 and 10. Yes, there was a distinct possibility that “Doomsday” could have been the end, and yes, that would have been awful. But, the rumors we were hearing here at KryptonSite at that time is that if Tom had not signed on, or if his fate was still uncertain, a short Justice League-ish pilot involving the “Doomsday” Justice League guest stars would have been shot, again because those actors were already in town. Alaina Huffman and Kyle Gallner (Impulse) appeared in that episode, as did one of the Legion of Super-Heroes (Ryan Kennedy as Cosmic Boy). This, of course, never ended up happening as Tom Welling signed back on and Smallville got two more seasons to end up at 10.

With ten seasons of Smallville, it is a shame that the show never was able to spawn a spinoff, though being the only show of its kind for most of its run had to have had benefits. The show is still being talked to today and fondly remembered by fans of each era of the series. It is still fun, though, to speculate on what might have been….

Kristin Kreuk Discusses Lana Lang’s Smallville Ending & Season 10 Return Invite

Kristin Kreuk discussed several Smallville topics at the recent Superman Celebration in Illinois.

Published

on

Kristin Kreuk recently attended the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois and the Superman Homepage was able to get her panel on video! Kristin touched upon many topics in the nearly 45 minute long panel, but most interestingly, she revealed that she had indeed been invited to return for Smallville’s final season, but she had declined.

“I just wanted her to be off in imaginary land,” Kristin told the panel moderator. “I wanted her to keep living the life that she had gone off to live, and I didn’t want to bring her back into the world. I really struggled with all of the love triangle stuff and I just didn’t see how we’d come back and add another closure to the story that wasn’t about Clark and Lois.”

She was asked about that conclusion that Lana had in Smallville Season 8, which she said she liked based on the story that Smallville had been telling. “I like that she got to have her independence and got to find the path forward for herself that was tied to what she believed in, her moral compass, her values. I like that she got to separate herself from these men. If the show had been a different show, would there have been a different ending? Maybe, yes. But I like that. Because her stories were so tied to these men, it was such a nice thing for her to honor herself,” she said.

One thing Kristin Kreuk does not think about, though, is that Lois “replaced” Lana on the series. “I didn’t think of it that way,” Kristin told a fan. “I never did. I thought they were two different storylines, and I really struggle with the idea that one woman replaces another woman, and I struggle with the idea that these womens’ lives don’t continue on, and they aren’t full and beautiful lives. So, I don’t know that she was replaced by someone else; I think that her connection to Clark changes, and she builds her own future. That’s how I saw it, anyway.”

And would Kristin have any advice to give teenaged Lana Lang, if they were to meet?

“Part of me just wants her to avoid that tall, dark haired blue eyed guy. Just avoid him entirely. I know he’s beautiful, and his heart’s so good, but what would have happened if she just went to therapy and found a caretaker who wasn’t Nell, and lived a normal life… what could have been?”

With that said, though, some of the wild things that Lana Lang went through on Smallville were a lot of fun for an actor, where there’s always a sense of wondering what will happen next. “That’s the fun thing about being on a fantasy show. You get to do crazy stuff. You can be possessed by a witch for a season of a TV show. You can become a vampire. You can be sprayed by a flower and act like a crazy person. There’s an unlimited number of wild things you can do, and when you’re doing 21, 22 episodes a season, you’ve gotta keep it fresh a little bit, right?”

And yes, she would consider a Smallville reunion. “We’ve talked about this a lot. I think we’re all open to it. I know that we’re not babies anymore,” she admitted. “The boys have been working on this animated thing for a million years now. I don’t know what’s happening with that, but that has been the main idea, I think, moving forward.”

You can watch video of the panel below.

Michael Rosenbaum Offers Smallville Animated Update

Michael Rosenbaum spoke about the potential Smallville animated project at the Nashville ComiCon.

Published

on

Michael Rosenbaum offered an update — or really, a non-update — about the Smallville animated project when asked about it this past weekend at the 2024 Nashville ComiCon.

“Tom [Welling] and I are working on a Smallville animated series that we’re trying to get made,” Rosenbaum confirmed to moderator Chris Killian. “It’s gonna take time. But the creators of Smallville are attached… they want to be a part of it. When it’s the right time, we’ll pitch it. We’ve working on it, and we have some loose animation that we’ve worked [on] with someone who was just awesome. It looks great. So if we can get that made, that would be awesome.”

While Michael Rosenbaum didn’t go into detail about why it will take time, a safe assumption is that there are a number of factors in play — building James Gunn’s new DCU being a big one, but also, if the Smallville producers Al Gough & Miles Millar are to be involved, they recently signed a deal with Sony and therefore might not be able to work on such a project.

Speaking of Gunn’s Superman movie, due out on Michael Rosenbaum’s birthday (July 11) in 2025, Michael did talk about his involvement (or non-involvement) with that, and whether or not he’d take a different role in the new DCU.

“I’m always up for a challenge,” Michael said. “I’m always up for fun. Whatever comes to me, I look at it, and if it’s not too silly, or if it makes me laugh, or I think I could do a really good job or I think I can make an impression, I’ll do it. So I’m at that point in my career where I just want to do things that I love, that I want to do. I asked him, ‘Why am I not in Superman? Why am I not in the movie somehow?’ It was fine, though. I wish him all the happiness. He deserves all the success he has. He’s enormously talented. When it’s the right thing, he’ll ask me. Or he won’t. And that’s aside from friendship. When your friends go off and do big things, you say, ‘Hey, they know I’m here. They know my number.’ And you just hope for the best.”
