Darren Criss is Superman: Man of Tomorrow; Animated Film Has Smallville Connections

Entertainment Weekly today revealed the first details of the upcoming animated feature Superman: Man of Tomorrow which sees Clark Kent as a young Daily Planet intern, in his early days of being Superman.

Voicing Clark Kent is Darren Criss who has dipped his toe into the Super-world before as the “Music Meister” in the Supergirl/Flash crossover episode “Duets.” Zachary Quinto is Lex Luthor.

Also cool is that there are a number of connections to Smallville in this one as well, beyond the whole “young Superman” thing.

The largest might be the notion that Zachary Quinto who voices Lex Luthor became famously known for his role as the villain “Sylar” on Heroes… and do you want to guess who played his dad on the show? (Or, was he the dad? It’s been 11 years and the Haitian mind-wiped us). If you guessed John Glover a.k.a. Lionel Luthor, you got it. So now Glover has worked opposite two Lex Luthors.

Alexandra Daddario is voicing Lois Lane and for a short time it was rumored that she would be playing Diana Prince/Wonder Woman on Smallville… obviously, a rumor that was about as true as what we routinely see on We Got This Covered. WB/CW publicity quickly quashed that rumor. (We still think her brother Matthew of Shadowhunters fame should’ve been Conner Kent at some point.)

Finally, Neil Flynn (famously of Scrubs and The Middle) is voicing Jonathan Kent. Flynn played a parent on two episodes of Smallville and was mentioned in a third, playing Pete Dinsmore, father of Lana’s childhood friend Emily, in the episodes “Accelerate” and “Forsaken.”

You can read more about Superman: Man of Tomorrow, including more of the cast, at EW’s website. The film is due out this summer and is already available to pre-order on Blu-ray.
