[APRIL FOOL’S] EXCLUSIVE: Tom Welling To Play Superman In The CBS Supergirl Pilot

KryptonSite has learned that Tom Welling will be appearing in the Supergirl pilot for CBS.

Published

on

tom_welling_in_superman_costumeThis was an April Fool’s story. It is NOT true.

A few weeks ago, we reported that the CBS Supergirl pilot was casting a stand-in for what clearly was going to be Superman. What we hadn’t realized when we made the post is that this stand-in was only going to be used for far away shots, while an actual actor would be making a full, speaking appearance in the pilot.

….And that’s not even the biggest part of the story.

We’ve been adamant around here at KryptonSite about the notion that we probably would not see Tom Welling in the Superman costume at any point, especially as a new actor, Henry Cavill, is gracing the big screen as the Man of Steel in movies including the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It also seemed that Mr. Welling was for a long time reluctant to put on the tights, which would explain the tiny computer-generated Superman we’d see in Smallville’s finale.

Well, guess what? We were wrong, and we admit it.

SUPERGIRL First-Look Image (Full-Body)Our sources tell us that Tom participated in one day of filming for the Supergirl pilot, wishing his famous cousin along. As Supergirl is now played by Melissa Benoist and not Laura Vandervoort, it is to be assumed that this isn’t necessarily the same Superman that we saw in Smallville… kind of like how Mark Hamill’s Trickster on the new Flash series wasn’t exactly the same guy we saw on the original CBS show.

Originally, the hope was to get Henry Cavill to make the appearance, but his busy movie schedule prohibited it. We hear that Brandon Routh was also briefly considered, but it was worried that his appearance would create confusion with the audiences who are now used to seeing him as Ray Palmer. With those two out of the picture, the producers were forced to go with their third choice, the long shot, which was Welling.

We also hear that getting Tom Welling was not easy – fortunately, some members of the Supergirl crew also had worked with him on Smallville, but it is said he received a producer credit and a lifetime membership at Warner Bros.’ exclusive golf course in exchange for appearing in the pilot and three subsequent episodes to be spread throughout Supergirl’s first season. You can see some spy photos of Welling filming with Melissa Benoist here.

I don’t know… aren’t some of you still insisting that report that he’ll be on the Flash is true? Even though a simple Google search proves 95% of what that KDramaStars site posts is made up for traffic?

Also, please don’t school me on respect for Tom Welling, unless you actually know him personally. Thanks!

Also, unless you know me personally don’t assume there is a dislike for Tom here. I have much more respect for Tom than I would for anyone who would try to put thoughts/feelings into my writing that are not there. Thank you!

Tom welling, you can’t deny that he looks perfect for superman, however this would be a big mistake as smallville tv series doesn’t fit the storyline of the current flash and arrow episodes, unless a superman was made as a brand new episode dismissing smallville as part of the current dc tv franchise.

Smallville Creators To Attend 25th Anniversary Convention

Smallville creators Alfred Gough & Miles Millar will be attending Creation’s 25th anniversary convention.

Every story has a beginning… and these two were there at the very beginning.

As if there weren’t enough reasons already to attend Creation Entertainment’s 25th Anniversary Salute to Smallville convention which is happening November 7-8, 2026 in Nashville… two new additions have been added to the already-packed lineup… two folks who were there at the very start.

Smallville creators Alfred Gough & Miles Millar will be attending the 25th anniversary show, which will run a few weeks after the 25th anniversary of the October 16, 2001 premiere of Smallville on The WB. They’ll be joining a lineup already populated by some huge names including Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance and more, and this year, there are even some new guests that are attending their first Creation Smallville show, including the legendary Helen Slater (Lara-El) and Phil Morris (John Jones!)

Beyond Smallville, Al & Miles have kept themselves very busy on several projects, most recently Netflix’s Wednesday and the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice film. Other credits of theirs include The Shannara Chronicles, Into the Badlands, and Spider-Man 2, the last of which is known by many as “the best live-action Spider-Man movie.” As far as we know, this is their first convention discussing Smallville since their time on the show way back when it was Season 7 being promoted at San Diego Comic-Con. If you’ve had questions about the show that you’ve been sitting on for over two decades, the two best people to answer them – Al Gough & Miles Millar – will now be there!

The anniversary convention will be co-emceed by KryptonSite’s Craig Byrne (that’s me!) and The House of El’s Derek Russell for the third year in a row, and we’d love to see you.

Get your admission passes, photo ops, autographs and more by visiting Creation’s website!

If you are still on the fence about going, Creation is offering 10% off all admission passes, photo op, autograph, and special event tickets for a limited time! Use the coupon code SMV10 and click “Apply” to get the discount (service fees and sales tax will still apply). The sale ends Saturday, July 18 at 5:00 PM PST.

A full guest list of the actors can be found below.

Smallville Ended 15 Years Ago Today

The final episode of Smallville aired May 13, 2011 on The CW.

Do you know where you were on May 13, 2011?

If you were a regular visitor to KryptonSite back in the day, you know very well where you were – anxiously anticipating that Friday night’s airing of the final two episodes of Smallville on The CW. Would Clark finally put on the suit? How will Lex come back? Will Clark and Lois get married? Will Chloe change her name to become L– oh, never mind that one.

Regardless of your thoughts on that finale, May 13, 2011 was a moment, and for a lot of us who stuck with the show for ten years, we really thought it was the end. We didn’t know the talented Bryan Q. Miller would be writing his own “Season 11” continuation comic soon after. We certainly had no idea we’d see Tom Welling as Clark and Erica Durance as Lois, in character again in the 2019 “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover on The CW. The KryptonSite Forums were certainly hopping, if you have any curiosity to see what people were posting that night.

And of course, now fans have the opportunity to see their favorite actors at conventions, including Salute to Smallville which has a big 25th anniversary panel planned for Gold Admission pass holders. (Though if you’re not Gold, trust me… there’s greatness for everyone else too!) KryptonSite webmaster and Editor-in-Chief Craig Byrne (that’s me!) has been lucky enough to have been a host of the event these past two years, and now is part of the team at Creation, making sure this event would be awesome. Creation has just listed a sale through Friday 5/15 where you can type in SMALL15 at checkout to get 15% off… one percent for every year we have sadly not had Smallville. So, definitely check it out! Many members of the show’s cast will be in attendance!

We’ve still got a lot coming up on the site to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show’s premiere… but as for today, the 15th anniversary of the show’s ending… have a good time… and keep holding on to Smallville.

And 15 years? WE’RE OLD.

We are as excited as everyone else around here for Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Smallville convention in November as it will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the show! KryptonSite’s Craig Byrne (that’s me!) is back to co-emcee the event with good friend and fellow enthusiast Derek Russell from The House of El. Guests for the show include Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance, Laura Vandervoort, John Glover, Sam Jones III, Helen Slater, Eric Johnson, Erica Cerra, Adrianne Palicki, and Phil Morris, with hopefully more to be announced!

Before today, only the highest-tier (and most expensive) Gold admission passes had been available for the November 6-7 event which will be happening in Nashville, Tennessee… but now, Silver, Copper, and very affordable General Admission passes are now being offered, making it a great time to hop on and plan a trip for later this year!

Salute to Smallville will feature Q&A panels with cast, autograph and photo opportunities, meet and greets, and much more…. and it’s a great opportunity to meet other people who loved and enjoyed Smallville as much as you have! For many of us, we’ve been watching for a quarter of a century!

Check it out – let’s get this event sold out!

DISCLAIMER: When he’s not working on websites for himself, Craig Byrne works on graphics and websites for Creation Entertainment, and as mentioned before, he is also one of the hosts of this event!
