Entertainment Weekly caught up with Smallville’s Tom Welling, soon to appear on FOX’s Lucifer, and discussed a number of topics, including confirmation that the actor had indeed had discussions with the Supergirl producers about appearing on that show. (Do note that Erica Durance is soon to appear, and Laura Vandervoort made her way to the show in Season 1).
“I know Greg [Berlanti] quite well and there had been some discussion, but they’re different worlds,” Welling told EW.
“There was an idea that maybe Supergirl, appearing on that, but it’s such a different show. I’m older now, I don’t look the same. Appearing on that show as Clark Kent or even Superman, for me, I would not want to watch me do that at all. They just have such a different tone,” he continued.
It doesn’t seem that it was confirmed what role exactly Tom talked with them about, or whose idea it was to not go there, but there you go. Tom Welling returns to TV with Lucifer this Fall on FOX.

Who says he has to be Clark or Superman?! Laura Vandervoort was Brainiac on Supergirl for goodness sakes!! Erica Durance is going to be Karas mom....it's just cool to see them again in the new setting, just like Dean Cain, Teri Hatcher, and even Christopher Reeve did on Smallville! I'm really disappointed that TW is giving that kind of a cop out excuse. Boo!!
Yes indeed couldn't agree more he can come in a different role does not have to b superman or Clark for that matter many he wants more money
At first my went to Jonathan Kent but then I realized it wouldn't make sense sense this is a show about Supergirl. But that Erica Durance is playing Kara mom maybe Tom Welling could her dad.
