Superman & Lois: Emmanuelle Chriqui “O Mother, Where Art Thou?” Post-Mortem

SPOILER WARNING: Details about Superman & Lois Episode 10 “O Mother, Where Art Thou?” are being discussed within. Do not read if you have not watched yet!

Move over, Annette O’Toole – another Lana has become Superman’s mother! But in this case, it was Emmanuelle Chriqui‘s Lana Lang-Cushing who let Superman’s Kryptonian mother, Lara, take the driver’s seat in order to save the people of Smallville and hopefully thwart Morgan Edge’s plans.

In addition to the first part of our interview which was posted earlier today, we asked Emmanuelle some questions about the events of this episode, for some perspective and clues about what really went down this week.

KRYPTONSITE’S CRAIG BYRNE: Lana has always such a great perspective of how wonderful Martha Kent was, and then in Episode 10, she embodies Clark’s Kryptonian mother. Do you think there’s a symbolism to that?

It’s actually surreal that they wrote that storyline, because not only is it Lana who becomes Superman’s Krypton mother… that is just crazy… but yes, to your point, it’s the fact that Lana was so close to Martha Kent, and that when she comes back into her Lana body, I don’t know that she remembers even being the other consciousness. For the viewers, it’s more just like “whoa, this is loaded with so many things!” But certainly, I think for Lana, the bigger moment is when she decides that she’s going to sacrifice herself to go through the machine and try and be the savior, because I think when she wakes up again, it’s just like a blur. They don’t remember much.

Does Lana really have no idea that Superman is actually Clark?

I really don’t think that she does. I mean, as you saw in the episode, I think that there’s this inkling of something familiar, in that moment right before she goes into the machine. It’s this sweet moment between Superman and Lana, where he says to her “No, Lana, you’re the real hero.” I think there’s definitely a recognition in just the way he says her name, that stops her in her tracks just before Lois comes and says it’s time.

Now that she has defied Morgan Edge by doing this, is it safe to say that she doesn’t get to keep her job?

[Laughs] Very.
