Superman & Lois Season 5 Still Possible; Exec Talks Cast Cuts

The Hollywood Reporter’s TV Top 5 podcast hosted by Lesley Goldberg and Dan Fienberg welcomed new CW Entertainment President Brad Schwartz this week, and among the topics discussed was the new season of Superman & Lois which should be coming our way in 2024. The news of Superman & Lois Season 4 came with a caveat, sadly — a majority of the series regular cast is no longer going to be contracted. (Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Alex Garfin, Michael Bishop, and Michael Cudlitz are the only announced series regulars; you can read more about that here.)

So what about those no longer contracted?

“A lot of those characters will be back; they’ll just be back in a few episodes instead of all the episodes,” Brad Schwartz told the team from THR when asked about cast cuts to Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming. “These are the creative decisions that have to be made when you want to keep a show going, and do it in a way that is profitable for everyone,” he said, implying that he expected many of the other actors to return. He is, however, confident of the shows’ continued success: “I don’t think any of those shows aren’t going to be as ambitious and awesome as they’ve always been,” he added.

One other very interesting nugget in the conversation is that Superman & Lois Season 5 could still be a possibility.

“We’ve gotten those shows to a place where, why couldn’t they continue if they’re profitable?” he asked. “Those will be conversations we have with the producers to see the appetite to keep going. But if they’re profitable and successful, and some of our highest-rated shows, why wouldn’t they [continue]?”

  • From regular to recurring - which always made sense. Anyone pushing outright firing except for the core 4 doesn't understand TV.

  • I can see Superman and Lois lasting up to 5 seasons. By that time Superman Legacy will be released.

So could we rule out moving the show to Max?

  • Superman and Lois would make last of season 5 on spring 2025 even bring characters back in show that been cut before new James Gunn Superman legacy movie.
