NOT GOOD: Floriana Lima Won’t Be A Supergirl Series Regular In Season 3

Even though she was one-half of the supercouple that got Supergirl a lot of positive attention in Season 2, word comes today via TV Line that Floriana Lima (Maggie Sawyer) will not be a series regular in Supergirl Season 3.

She will, however, recur in the third season, so she’s not gone completely. Fans and press including here at KryptonSite noticed when Lima was missing from the Season 3 synopsis.

“We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story,” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. “Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in Season 3.”

Considering Maggie and Alex got engaged at the end of Season 2, this news is… not good, right? Although, other series have shown that sometimes a spouse or significant other can be just recurring on a show. Either way, we’ll see what happens.

  • If the show could survive Calista Flockhart being changed from 'regular cast' to 'recurring' for Season Two, I'm sure that the show can work around Floriana Lima changing her cast status as well. A possible in-story explanation could be that she got called away to Metropolis for a special ops assignment, so she has to postpone Alex's proposal for a bit.

  • This can only help the show. We don't need all the "lovey dovey" crap anyway. More action, less sex is a good thing. Besides, marriage is between one man and one woman, not two women.

  • uhhhhh, Alex proposed but Maggie didn't really respond - she just smiled. Many ways to play this out!
