Melissa Benoist Books A New TV Series

Melissa Benoist has joined the cast of another TV series…. but no, this doesn’t mean anything bad for Supergirl. The series is a limited run, and we’re assuming she’s filming over the Supergirl summer hiatus before shooting for Season 3 starts in a few months.

The limited “event” series, Waco, will be one of the first offerings of Viacom’s new Paramount Network and in it, Melissa will be playing Rachel Koresh, the legal wife of the Branch Dividian leader David Koresh. The series is based on a true story that happened in 1994 in Waco, Texas.

The show features two other actors known for playing characters in superhero projects: David Koresh is being played by Taylor Kitsch (Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine); Michael Shannon (Zod from Man of Steel) also stars.

The six-episode series, which is filming in New Mexico, is scheduled to premiere in January 2018. Deadline was the website to reveal the news.

Craig Byrne

Craig Byrne has been writing about Superman TV since 1995, when the "Lois & Clark Krypton Club" launched. He founded KryptonSite.com in February 2001, becoming the first fan site for The WB/CW television series Smallville. He also wrote the Official Companion books for Smallville seasons 4-7 as well as the Smallville Visual Guide.

  • It's interesting that she is choosing to play another controversial figure, after portraying Katherine Russell in Patriots Day. I think it is really great that she is broadening her scope beyond All-American types like Marley Rose and Supergirl.

    • I am glad too. Melissa is so talented, that I'm happy for more people to be able to see that talent.

    • Soon to be formerly known as Spike TV, Paramount/Viacom are moving a lot of their new programming to just one location.
