Is Supergirl In Danger Of Not Making The CBS Schedule?

The “Fall Pilot Buzz” posts have started to surface on websites including Deadline and Variety, and the biggest thing we’ve really read so far about Supergirl is that it’s a “contender for a pickup.” Variety didn’t even mention Supergirl in their latest round-up.

Should we, as fans, worry that it might not make the CBS Fall schedule?

Not yet.

It’s quite possible the pilot hasn’t even been delivered yet to the network. If they haven’t seen it, obviously, there won’t be any buzz one way or another. Variety’s post was dated April 17; nine days ago, so it’s very likely they hadn’t seen it yet. The project surely requires extensive special effects which means that it won’t be seen by CBS as early as some of the other pilots.

But what about that “Supergirl Celebration” tweet by Geoff Johns, which doesn’t seem to be online anymore?

Geoff Johns tweeted a photo from a dinner attended by himself, Supergirl director Glen Winter, and surely others were there too. It was hashtagged #SupergirlCelebration. Could they have been celebrating an official Supergirl pickup? Anything’s possible, but we’re assuming it had more to do with it being the end of the pilot episode shoot.

What other challenges might Supergirl face?

CBS has a very packed schedule, full of a lot of hits. Finding the right timeslot for Supergirl will not be easy. On the bright side, though, Supergirl may offer CBS an audience that might not already be watching their network.

Don’t give up hope!

We’ll know for sure about Supergirl and whether or not it gets picked up by May 13, which is when CBS announces their Fall schedule. Usually series pickup news comes out before then. The show allegedly has a series commitment, which means there will be a big penalty if it doesn’t happen.

  • Is there any chance that CBS might decide to pass it off to the CW? Frankly, I'd rather they did than do it themselves. The ratings bar for CBS is so much higher than it is for the CW that it seems like it'd be an uphill battle running it on CBS.
