Interview: My Adventures of Superman Producers on Season 2

The first two episodes of My Adventures of Superman Season 2 drop at midnight tonight (May 25) on Adult Swim and will be available the next day on MAX. To promote the new season, KryptonSite spoke with Alice Lee and Ishmel Sahid (Lois and Jimmy) in an interview that can be read and seen here; tonight, though, the spotlight falls on the show’s Co-Executive Producers Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher and Co-Producer Josie Campbell! Be warned, SPOILERS are being discussed!

The first item up for discussion, of course, was the coming of Supergirl in Season 2… and addressing that character is Josie Campbell, a producer and writer who brought us adventures of another heroine on the She-Ra series.

“I got to write that episode that introduces her, which is fun,” Campbell says. “I’ll try not to get into spoiler territory, but I think we like every character we’ve worked on on the show. the core of her stays the same, but we’re putting some twists on her and her background, and some twists in who she is and how she relates to Clark,” she teases.

“Everything for us is about the character, and I think the other thing that is exciting about Supergirl is you’re gonna get to see her play against all three characters and have very different dynamics… with Lois, Jimmy and Clark. Some fun, some not, some terrifying. It’s just all over the place. I’m excited for people to see her,” she adds.

As for another addition for the new season. “Alex”…. that is who we think it is, rihgt?

“Yeah, that’s Lex,” Brendan Clogher says, before Jake Wyatt explains how that all came about.

“So, he’s Alex in Season 1, because they told us we couldn’t put Lex Luthor in the show,” he explains. “And then Brendan was like, we’re gonna write this character named Alex and he’s gonna be Ivo’s assistant, and then he’s going to have an angry rant about Superman later on, and it’s then it’s us in the room being like, ‘is this Lex Luthor?’ and then our executives are being like ‘is this Lex Luthor?’ and when Brendan would just go, ‘do you want him to be?’ He got away with it! He got past the Lex Luthor ban with Alex, and got Lex Luthor grandfathered into Season 2!”

Finally, family is an important part of Season 2, especially with people and their parents, and those relationships will be deepened in Season 2. Josie Campbell promises this will continue to be a theme, especially for Lois and Clark. “We’ve got some really good character centric episodes especially for Lois coming up, that really dig more into that question of nature versus nurture… where you come from versus who you want to be, and the fact that where you come from can often complicate who you want to be, and sometimes be a barrier and obstacle,” she teases. “Identity is tied up in family, and so that is a theme that we are going to be exploring very much in season two.”

“Your parents are the people that you think are the best in all the world, but you don’t even call them by their name. You’re not even familiar with their basic, every day identity,” Wyatt adds. “So, both Clark and Lois as they go through the season, are going to discover more complexities about who their parents are. We’re going to have a constantly changing and updating narrative about who these people were, and what they did, and how we should feel about them.”

You can watch the entire interview below, where among other topics we also discuss limitations that the new Superman movie may have put on the show, dream guest voices from Superman history, and more. Oh, and Jake Wyatt promises that Krypton is coming, and it’s going to be weird! Enjoy, and don’t miss the season premiere episodes tonight!
