Tom Welling is playing the role of Smallvile’s Clark Kent for the first time in over eight years for the DC TV crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths which begins this Sunday, December 8 on The CW, and his appearance also reunites him with the actress who played Lois Lane, Erica Durance, for most of the series run.
So what was Tom’s reaction when he was pitched the story of what Clark Kent would be up to in the present day?
“He was terrific,” Marc Guggenheim recalled at a Q&A held after a screening of the first two episodes this afternoon.
“We got on the phone with him and basically pitched him everything, and actually, the scene that Don and Holly [Don Whitehead and Holly Henderson, who wrote for Smallville in the later seasons] wrote was already done, so we just e-mailed it to him, an he was like ‘I love this.’ He basically said to me, ‘you guys have written the one scene that I can’t say no to,’ which was really, really nice.”
