Tom Welling Signs On For A New TV Series

Tom Welling has joined the cast of a new series!

He’ll be starring with Brendan Fraser (Doom Patrol, The Mummy) in The Professionals which is loosely based on the Soldier of Fortune movie starring Christian Slater. The 10-episode series is set for the Scandinavian outlet Viaplay though there is said to be international interest.

Here’s how Deadline describes the project and Tom’s character. The show has started filming in South Africa and Ireland and we’re hoping this doesn’t make Tom too busy for a Crisis later this year!  Also, can we just say that it’s amazing that Tom’s character will be working opposite a futurist named Swann?

The Professionals is set against a backdrop of international espionage and corporate sabotage in the 21st century’s privately-funded space race and follow Welling as a hardened former counterintelligence officer Captain Vincent Corbo. After their advanced medical satellite explodes on deployment, billionaire futurist Peter Swann, played by Fraser, and his fiancée, medical visionary Dr. Graciela “Grace” Davila, played by Anaya, turn to Corbo. Corbo assembles a team of experienced professionals to investigate the incident. They learn that any combination of Swann’s business rivals, corrupt governments officials, and a shadowy crime syndicate could be behind the attack and represent a continued threat. Duken plays a Europol agent seeking to thwart the security team’s efforts.

Since Smallville, Tom has appeared in movies including The Choice and Draft Day; he was also a series regular in Season 3 of Lucifer.
