The upcoming CW TV series is called Superman & Lois but as soon as news came that the character of Lana Lang would be in the show, some fans — especially those who recall the relationship between Clark Kent and Lana Lang in Smallville — were concerned that might add some kind of “love triangle” into the mix…. which could be awkward, considering both characters are married now (to Lois Lane and Kyle Cushing, respectively) in the new show.
This notion is not lost on Emmuanuelle Chriqui who is playing Lana Lang-Cushing on Superman & Lois, who assures that the “history” is important.
“One of the things that is very clear is that yes, they dated in high school. But besides that, they’ve known each other since kindergarten,” Chriqui explained at a recent press Q&A ofor the show. “Lana certainly treats Clark as one of her closest friends, one of the people that knows her the best. There’s a lot of history there. But it’s nice that in this incarnation of the world, it’s not just based on their romance, it’s like a very rich, long history.”
Seems we don’t have to worry about things getting weird… at least not between these characters. There are a lot of different aspects we will see in the stories, however.
“One of the things that’s so compelling about our show, is that yes, we talk about reverse mortgages, we talk about people needing a loan, we talk about mental health. We talk about all these things and we have Superman fighting in outer space, but it doesn’t seem so crazy; it doesn’t seem so out there,” she says, adding thet they are “proud” of being part of the “grounded vision” that Superman & Lois will bring.
