Smallville Director Terrence O’Hara Has Died

Frequent Smallville director Terrence O’Hara has passed away. He died Monday, December 5 due to cancer, only a few weeks away from his 77th birthday which would have come on Christmas Day.

O’Hara’s first Smallville episode to direct was “Reaper” and he was brought back a few weeks later for the Season 1 episode “Obscura.” Ultimately, he directed 12 Smallville episodes – a list which also included “Ryan,” “Calling,” “Slumber,” “Resurrection,” “Forsaken,” “Bound,” “Onyx,” “Mortal,” “Fade,” and “Progeny.” In more recent years, Terrence O’Hara was a prolific director for the NCIS franchise.

One could argue that Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are channeling their inner Terrence O’Haras when they have fans deliver Lex’s “I am the villain of the story” at their convention “Smallville Nights” — but of course, O’Hara is the one that directed it first. Our condolences to his friends, family, and coworkers.
