Episode #3-1: "Exile"
October 1, 2003

Written By: Alfred Gough and Miles Millar
Directed By: Greg Beeman
Guest Stars: Terence Stamp (Voice of Jor-El; speculative), Rutger Hauer (Morgan Edge), Ryan Robbins (Louis Leery Jr.)

Check out KryptonSite's image gallery from "Exile!"

* Al Gough in Entertainment Weekly's Fall Preview Issue (thanks Izzy!): ''The season opener is a two-parter,'' says exec producer Al Gough, ''because there's so much s--- going on, it takes two episodes to clean it up.'' Allow us to play pooper-scooper: Lana Lang (Kristen Kreuk) searches for Clark Kent (Tom Welling), who has embraced his dark side and run away to Metropolis, where he meets up with crime boss Morgan Edge (''Blade Runner'''s Rutger Hauer). Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) survives a plane crash and tries to figure out if his fiancée (Emmanuelle Vaugier) or his father (John Glover) set him up. Clark will encounter future Daily Planet editor Perry White and possibly Jimmy Olsen. Oh, and maybe one other DC Comics crusader. ''We'd love to get Bruce Wayne,'' says Gough. ''But it's a constant battle to get through the AOL Time Warner matrix.'' Pun intended.

* Obviously "Exile" picks up after "Exodus" -- Clark has exiled himself from those he loves in order to protect them; and Lex might be marooned someplace -- that is, if he even survives the plane crash! Lana obviously will be spending time sorting out her feelings, Chloe and Lionel will probably be interacting some more, and Jonathan and Martha will deal with the aftermath of the loss of the baby.
* No word yet on the whereabouts or revelations that might come up regarding Dr. Helen Bryce, or even if Emmanuelle Vaugier will be returning. We would say it's a pretty safe bet that Clark will continue to be haunted by his Kryptonian father's voice, though.
* "Exile" starts with Metropolis bad guys in clown suits.
* Comics character Morgan Edge makes his Smallville premiere as the owner of Club Steel, a hangout in Metropolis. If he's anything like his comics incarnation, Edge runs organized crime or is very involved with it. Edge was the inspiration for the "Bill Church" character in Lois & Clark. It sounds like Clark might be working for him. Edge will be played by Rutger Hauer.
* "Exile" Clark, in Metropolis, is going by the name of "Kal." A girl sees the "S" on his chest, which looks "awfully big for a birthmark."
* Lana apparently follows Clark to Metropolis and hears someone call Clark "Kal." Clark claims it's his "secret identity."
* Lex is on an island babbling about someone who had supposedly been there for 15 years that saved him.
* Muggers try to attack Lana in Metropolis, but let's see if her Power Ranger powers from "Precipice" will help with this one, or if she'll need a man of steel to save her.
* Maggie Sawyer (last seen in "Insurgence") makes a return appearance.
* Season three will pick up three months later and will introduce a character from the comics, Morgan Edge, leader of the Metropolis Intergang crime syndicate, according to a feature at the post-gazette.com.
* Also from that article... Lex will survive the plane crash. "Most people don't survive tornadoes either," Al Gough is said to have said.
* Regarding the Chloe/Lionel alliance: "She made a deal with the devil out of anger, and we'll see her having to grapple with that," Gough said. "She wants to get out of it and gets pulled back in. You'll see how Lionel turns the screws on her."
* "Jenn" tells us that this episode features a 297 foot drop from the tallest building in Surrey B.C. The jump was done by the stunt doubles of Clark Kent and Jonathan Kent. Apparently the two are at the top of a building, and Jonathan falls and Clark goes after him. They then fall through a huge skylight at the bottom of the building. Ouch. This scene can be seen in the "Exile" trailer.
* An interview with Ryan Robbins, who plays "Louis Leery Jr." the character who Lex encounters on the island, has now surfaced at the Hollywood North Report website. So Lex is an old fart to hang out with, eh? (Sorry, couldn't resist)
* One of the Verizon text messages has revealed that "Dr. Helen Bryce-Luthor" will be inheriting Lex's fortune after his untimely death. Guess that reveals if she lives or not.
* Both Chloe and Jonathan also confront Clark in Metropolis. It sounds like Jonathan's confrontation will be inside the Luthorcorp building, and will result in the long jump out of the window mentioned above.
* Lana professes her love for Red!Clark, but he ignores her, just like we'd like to.

* Clark hops in a gull-winged Ferrari, and asks "how much." When told $125,000, Clark buys it with ease, with a backpack full of money.
* The front page of the Inquisitor reads "R.I.P. Lex."

Episode #3-2: "Phoenix"
October 8, 2003

Written By: Alfred Gough and Miles Millar
Directed By: Greg Beeman
Guest Stars: Terence Stamp (Voice of Jor-El; speculative), Rutger Hauer (Morgan Edge)

* This is Part 2 of a two part season premiere.
* This one may belong in Rumorville, but it's so likely we're keeping it here: A second season Lois & Clark episode titled "The Phoenix" featured the return, from the ashes, of the presumed dead Lex Luthor. It seems the people of Smallville would think Lex to be dead after his little plane incident at the end of Season Two, so don't be surprised if the "dead" Lex Luthor returns to torn to the surprise of a few very shocked faces.
* Clark is reunited with his parents. "Whatever problems you have, we'll figure them out together," Martha tells Clark. Clark of course is worried about putting his family in danger, but the Kents stand united, even after their tragedy in "Exodus."
* Someone's broken into Lionel's vault at the Metropolis LuthorCorp office, where all the cameras are "conveniently melted." (Hm, Clark perhaps?) Lionel has a "trashed vault, a window blown out of the 60th floor, and a hole the size of a Navigator in the street below." Lionel of course claims to Maggie Sawyer that the vault was empty after what happened in "Insurgence." Hmm...
* Lex is definitely back in town by this point.
* It sounds like during Lex's absence, Lionel acquired the vial of Clark's blood. This may be what is stolen from the vault.
* Lionel's right hand man, Kroll (chant with us: "Kroll! Kroll! Kroll!"), might be working for Morgan Edge. By the way - it seems Morgan Edge and Lionel are "old friends." The plot thickens...
* A "mysterious" scientist working for Lionel by the name of Lia Tang is studying Clark's blood -- blood that is in the possession of both Lionel and Morgan Edge at one time or another. She confirms that the blood samples are identical - possibly identical to what Dr. Bryce had in Season 2?
* It sounds like Clark and Jonathan are tied up in the Kent barn or someplace like that, with Clark paralyzed by Kryptonite.

Verizon Promotional Shorts
Now Airing

The WB and Verizon Wireless have presented a series of short scenes featuring Maggie Sawyer, the Daily Planet, and several other Metropolis-based concepts to tie in with the show's season premiere. They are NOW AIRING, with a schedule appearing on the main page of KryptonSite.

* Maggie Sawyer interrogates someone who had a parking meter tied around his legs by some "freak" who is now roaming the streets of Metropolis in the guy's motorcycle.
* We see inside of the Daily Planet for the first time, and meet editor Max Taylor. It seems these shorts feature him and/or Maggie Sawyer interviewing onlookers.
* A girl named Tammy tells Taylor about seeing someone who is leaping from the top of buildings.
* Another eyewitness sees "this big dude" (Clark?) punch an ATM and walk off with at least $5,000.
* One of these shorts, titled "Bullet," also features Chloe interacting with Planet editor Max Taylor.
* A Daily Planet globe is thrown through a store window in a short called "Locomotive."

Episode #3-3: "Extinction"
October 15, 2003

Written By: Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer
Guest Stars: Camille Mitchell as Sheriff Adams, Jesse Metcalfe (Van Kersey)

* Lex studies the CGI recreation of the near-fatal bridge crash on Loeb Bridge -- his first near-death experience -- and wonders what exactly it means for him.
* There's a young man named Van, who is apparently a friend of Lana's, who is a killer of meteor freaks. Apparently a "meteor freak" had killed his father, and he's taken it upon himself to exact vengeance against meteor freaks.
* Van apparently gets a hold of Chloe Sullivan's database -- and comes to Lana with the revelation that "one of those freaks" is a friend of hers - Clark Kent.
* Power Ranger Lana decides to "whip-kick" Van.
* "You were in love with that freak, weren't you?" Van asks Lana. "That's disgusting."

Episode #3-4: "Slumber"
October 22, 2003
date tentative; unconfirmed

Written By: Drew Greenberg

* Sara and her uncle Nicholas are two newcomers to Smallville. Nicholas comments about how friendly folks are when Lana and Clark come over to visit. They have moved "next door" to Clark, which may mean they're taking up residence in Aunt Nell's old place.
* Sara sleeps comatose. She's been in a catatonic state for several years, or so her uncle says.
* Clark correctly guesses Sara's favorite flower as lilacs, and inquires Nicholas about why he's just bringing Sara to Smallville now instead of years ago.
* Clark offers to bring in a fine doctor from Metropolis, with the help of Lex of course. Strangely, Nicholas turns him down, and threatens him for getting involved!
* Sara and her parents lived in Smallville "before... the accident," which implies there may be a little meteor freak in her.
* Now for the weird part - if Sara is catatonic, why is Clark seeing Sara outside, checking out some lilacs?
* "Sara" claims she's looking for her parents, who she hasn't seen in a while.
* Clark is put into some danger by a shadowy figure in a red cloak with gnarled, bony hands.
* It later comes about that Sara created a "monster" in her mind, and that monster may be "her uncle."
* Sara comments that Clark is the first person who has cared to protect her.
* Sara tells Clark she thought she saw him shooting heat out of his eyes, but Clark plays it off as "you must have been dreaming."
* Sara comments that it all seemed so real to be a dream. In other words, it almost sounds like it will be unclear what of this episode takes place in reality - and what parts take place in Sara's mind. Either way, Sara sounds like a very interesting addition to the Smallville mythos... that is, if she survives the episode ;)
* Some speculation about the episode - including rumors of some nudity in the episode - is now at Rumorville.

* This is the first episode to be written by former Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Drew Greenberg. (If you run a Buffy site and would like to share this information, please name the source (KryptonSite) and place a link! Thanks!)

Episode #3-5: "Perry"
October 29, 2003
date tentative; unconfirmed

Written By: Mark Verheiden
Directed By: Jeannot Szwarc
Guest Stars: ?? (Perry White)

* FilmJerk.com first broke the news of casting documents going out for the role of Perry White. KryptonSite can now give you the episode title and more details.
* The FilmJerk report revealed that "White is listed as somewhere between 30 and 45 years old and running a small town newspaper in Smallville. The actor chosen for this part would shoot his scenes from August 28 through September 9. It looks as if it is plausible he could be a recurring character throughout the season."
* Despite Aint It Cool News claiming otherwise, Perry is not the editor of the Smallville Ledger in this episode.
* The director of "Perry" is Jeannot Szwarc, who directed "Supergirl" and the Christopher Reeve movie "Somewhere In Time."

* Perry White is apparently headed to Smallville on assignment, and stops at the Wild Coyote on the way. He erroneously refers to it as "Littleville," and calls them Kans-ass-ians. He's pretty grumpy, and perhaps even drunk. He also asks the bartender if he believes in "powers greater than we can know, somewhere in the universe." Maybe that is his assignment.
* Lex begins sessions with a therapist named Dr. Claire Foster. He talks with her about many things. Interesting to note -- the five psychiatric sessions were from the insistence of Luthorcorp's insurance carrier. Did we mention Claire refuses to sign off on his psychological release?
* FilmJerk.com has posted some details about the Claire role, and reveals that the role may be recurring. Click here for more details.
* By the way, yes, Dr. Claire Foster is the psychiatrist Superman saw after the "Worlds at War" storyline in the Superman comic books.
* Lex won't talk about his marriage or his time on the island.
* Lex gets nasty with the psychologist, calling her a "nothing-shrink who wanted a little more face time with her celebrity patient."
* Clark does interact with Perry. Don't be surprised if this involves a rescue.
* Clark apparently super-speeds too far and ends up on a beach in Malibu. (But sadly, too far north to interact with anyone down in "the" O.C.)

Episode #3-6: "Relic"
Airdate Unknown

Written By: Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders
Guest Stars: William B. Davis as Mayor Tate (unconfirmed)

* This episode was previously known under the title of "Yesterday."
* "Relic" starts in the year 1960. A woman named Louise - the spitting image of Lana - is found dead by a young man named Dexter McCallum. It doesn't seem Dexter did it, but a young deputy named Tate walks in right after the act. We're assuming "Tate" is the same person as Mayor Tate last seen in "Ryan."
* We're also assuming that Louise being found dead is a flash-forward, as she figures into the story later. A young drifter named Joe - the spitting image of Clark (naturally!) who wears a bomber jacket - stops a scruffy thief who tries to mug Lana. The scruffy thief's name? "Lachlan Luthor."
* Young Deputy Tate, who says "Call me Billy," sounds like a much nicer man than he later becomes. At least at first. Because...
* The deputy threatens Joe and tells him to get out of Smallville after catching Joe in a steamy embrace with Louise. He says Joe is ruining Louise's reputation, and that Joe has "overstayed his welcome" in Smallville.
* A pregnant woman - the wife of Hiram Kent and obviously about to give birth to a young boy named Jonathan, by the name of Jessica Kent - is seen. We don't know at this point if Hiram is played by John Schneider or if someone else will be cast. (Tom Wopat anyone?) Of course, we always thought Jonathan was raised by his Uncle Jesse. When leaving the house, Hiram says goodbye to his wife's belly, calling the child within "Gene." "Jonathan," his wife corrects him.
* Louise is accidentally shot. By whom? You'll just have to wait and see the episode.
* A medallion comes into play. But no Jackie Chan.
* Yes, the characters we know and love will appear in their present-day forms. Lex hears the story from an old cop, and who knows who Clark hears the story from... but they both at the very least appear.
* We are curious if John Schneider will get a "Go West, Young Dukes" vibe from this. (Fans of the Dukes of Hazzard will get the reference).
* Lachlan Luthor shoots "Joe" -- and sees the bullets flatten on his chest. One bullet "pings off of the medallion, denting it."
* Lachlan has a Scottish accent.
* The old cop (Mason) who is telling Lex the story tells people that the "Edgecliff Condos" were once at "the worst part of Suicide Slum" -- a "tenement" that Lex's grandparents once lived in.
* Lex makes a comment about the story he always heard being true, that his grandparents died in a fire. Mason, who was a cop at the time, suggests otherwise, or at the very least that the incident was not accidental.
* Present-day Jonathan makes a reference to opening something of his father's -- what exactly we do not know.
* It sounds like the present-day Mayor Tate, played by William B. Davis, will be making a return appearance.

Episode #3-7: "Magnetic"

Written By: Holly Harold
Directed By: David Jackson

* Just like the title implies, this episode involves someone with magnetic powers. This was revealed as something that the producers were trying to come up with an interesting way to do, at the Writers on Writing seminar.

More Spoilers

* If all goes well, Bruce Wayne will be showing up at some point during Season 3. It's really up to the higher powers that be right now.
* The Smallville Ledger site has some prophecies from Ezra Small, which may have spoilers within riddles. Click here to read for yourself.
* For some details on some more currently-circulating Smallville rumors that aren't necessarily spoilers, visit KryptonSite's new page - Rumorville!
* After the main characters are done with high school, the show could follow the "WB formula" and send them to college. "But by the time he goes to Metropolis, the series will end," the producers say.
* Michael Rosenbaum on Season 3, from a recent SFX Magazine Superhero Special: "I guess I'd better give you something dirty on Smallville, huh? Well, I can't think of anything other than there's much more stuff coming up to do with the triangle between Clark and Lex and Lionel, which is great, and whish is what I think people really want to see. I know I signed on because of the relationship between Clark and Lex - the hero and the anti-hero. I always felt that was where the show was really centered. Their heads will continue to butt and Lex gets as close to knowing Clark's secret as he's ever going to get. That's all I can tell ya - except under torture."
