Season 2 Spoilers

Episode #2-4: "Red"
Written By : Jeph Loeb
Guest Stars: John Glover (Lionel Luthor)
Air Date: October 15, 2002

Red photo gallery

The WB's Description:
CLARK DISCOVERS RED KRYPTONITE! — The school unknowingly uses red kryptonite in the class rings and its effect on Clark (Tom Welling) stuns his friends and family as he turns into a rebellious and dangerous teenager who decides to use his powers for evil instead of good. Jonathan (John Schneider) and Martha (Annette O’Toole) scramble to find the truth behind Clark’s behavior before he exposes his true identity, while Lana (Kristin Kreuk) finds herself drawn to the “new” Clark who declares his love for her. Michael Rosenbaum, Sam Jones III, Allison Mack and John Glover also star. Jeff Woolnough directed the episode written by Jeph Loeb (#175054).

More Spoilers:
* Here it is -- the rumored Red Kryptonite episode! Though, it sounds like the "Red Kryptonite" is actually a green rock with red glowing through it, which should make for a really cool effect.
* Clark confronts a cane-walking Lionel and tells him that the people of Smallville don't want him there. When Clark introduces himself, Lionel says "Jonathan and Martha Kent's son? As far as I know, they're good people, salt of the earth. I'm surprised they raised such an incorrigable child."
* A federal marshall claims Clark was seen fleeing a disturbance in Lex's Porsche.
* Clark fires a gun three times into his own hand to show off his powers. Lionel overhears, and Clark tells him "Don't worry. He missed."
* A girl, Jessie, and her father are on the run, or in witness protection.
* Apparently that Dean guy is now Aunt Nell's fiancee, and he has a 10 year old son named Travis.
* Clark asks Lana to go dancing with him. "Are you asking me on a date?" she asks. She turns him down, because she has to watch Travis, but Clark finds a solution. Clark is acting very out of character, and sure of himself. "There's a lot you don't know about me," Clark tells her, and he talks about the "sexy" way her nose crinkles up when she gets serious.
* Clark is wearing a ring. Could this be where the Red Kryptonite is held?
* The marshall, Palmer, is full of bizarre statistics.
* Jessie seems to be around, and may tie in to the source of Clark's acting uncharacteristically. Clark even goes so far as to ask Lana if she wants a beer. Jessie also manages to insult Lana and the Talon. Whoops.
* The Bold New Clark even reminds Lana that Whitney's out of the picture, so she should just go for it. Clark even gets to lean in and give Lana a kiss. At first, Lana's almost too shocked to resist. It seems, though, that Lana is finally returning Clark's feelings.
* Clark does or says something that causes Lana to slap him. Either way their new "relationship" doesn't seem too long for this world.
* The group gets their class rings, and Chloe comments that it looks like it was "jacked from P. Diddy." Apparently Clark's ring has the Red Kryptonite inside of it, and that's what gives him the bad effects.
* Jessie refers to Clark as the "hottie wearing primary colors." Her interest in Clark seems to make Lana jealous.
* Red Kryptonite makes Clark's veins ripple red.
* Clark backtalks the school's new assistant principal, and tells him his dress code "sucks."
* Pete makes the comment to Clark "Aren't you, like, married to Lana in your imagination?"
* Pete's new knowledge seems to expand his role, as he works with Jonathan and Martha to figure out how to get the ring away from Clark.
* As the episode continues, the Red Kryptonite gives Clark more negative effects, including making his eyes bloodshot red.

Episode #2-5: "Nocturne"
Guest Stars: John Glover (Lionel Luthor)
Air Date: October 22, 2002

The WB's Description:
A BROODING STRANGER COMES BETWEEN CLARK AND LANA — Clark (Tom Welling) is concerned when he discovers someone has been leaving love notes for Lana (Kristin Kreuk) at her parents’ grave and warns her to stay away from the mysterious poet. Fed up with Clark’s over-protectiveness, Lana (Kristin Kreuk) follows the dark and handsome stranger to his home and discovers his parents keep him locked in chains. Unable to leave him like that, Clark and Lana break into the house to save the boy, but soon realize why he was locked up in the first place. Michael Rosenbaum, Sam Jones III, Allison Mack, John Glover, Annette O’Toole and John Schneider also star. Rick Wallace directed the episode written by Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders (#175055).

More Spoilers:
* Someone is giving out LuthorCorp secrets, causing Lionel to fire several assistants.
* It almost seems like Lionel and Lex are working side by side.
* Lex warns his father to stay away from the Kents, or their alliance will be over.
* A kid who "drowned in the lake eight years ago" is back, and supposedly threatens Clark. The reason why he's still alive, we'll leave you to see in the actual episode, but it doesn't sound like it involves meteor rocks (YEAH!)
* Martha gets in a helicopter with Lionel. Why, we don't know... but it sounds like she may be taking on a job as Lionel's assistant. (What would Bo Kent think!)
* Lionel might be in danger from this week's baddie, Byron. (This is a Lionel Luthor episode, what can we say?)
* Byron calls Clark Lana's boyfriend. "He's just a friend... an overprotective one," she tells him.
* Byron and Lana seem to bond in a way. Byron's past, however, has a dark tie to LuthorCorp, and again, we want to leave some surprises as to what they may be.

Episode #2-6: "Redux"
Written By: Russel Friend & Garrett Lerner
Directed By: Chris Long
Air Date: October 29, 2002

Redux photo gallery

The WB's Description:
CLARK MEETS HIS GRANDFATHER AND LANA DISCOVERS HER FATHER MAY BE ALIVE — After realizing the farm is in financial trouble, Martha (Annette O’Toole) goes to her estranged father (guest star George Coe) for help. Clark (Tom Welling) is thrilled at the prospect of meeting his grandfather but Jonathan’s (John Schneider) refusal to see the man prompts Clark to force a reunion that doesn’t go exactly as planned. Meanwhile, Lana (Kristin Kreuk) discovers an old photograph that suggests her father may still be alive. Michael Rosenbaum, Sam Jones III and Allison Mack also star. Chris Long directed the episode written by Russel Friend & Garrett Lerner (#227621).

More Spoilers:
* Martha's father, William Clark, comes to town after many years of being estranged due to conflicts with Jonathan. Clark wants to get to know his grandfather more but will the family rifts keep them all apart?
* Clark does a super-feat underwater! Did we mention that Clark will be wearing red speedos in this one? In a Superman first, it won't be on top of a costume, either!
* Somehow the "freak of the week" can make people age at a very rapid pace, possibly so he/she can stay young. One Smallville High student is a high schooler one minute, shriveled and dead the next.
* Smallville High has a new principal, Principal Reynolds, who challenges Clark to find his journalistic side.
* The new principal apparently used to be a professor at Exeter Prep when Lex attended the school there. For some reason Chloe thinks the new principal is shady.
* This episode was filmed at the end of Season 1, but is being saved for here. Supposedly the tidbits with Lana and the photo (from "Lineage") come from a plotline beginning in this episode.

Episode #2-7: "Lineage"
Guest Stars: Patrick Cassidy (Harry Small)
Air Date: November 5, 2002

Lineage photo gallery

* A lab technician takes a DNA sample from Clark. It sounds like Clark and Pete are going to go in and steal it before it can be analyzed. It seems a woman named Rebecca thinks Clark is her long lost son, Lucas. According to the TNMC website, "She gave her son up to the very same adoption agency that the Kents 'adopted' Clark from. He was the only child they accepted, and Clark's was the only adoption."
* Oh yeah, did we mention that the father of young Lucas is a guy named Lionel Luthor?
* A lawyer named Henry Small comes into town. Lana has a photo, and suggests that Henry, not Lewis Lang, might actually be her father. We learn that he used to be involved with Lana's mother, and maybe, just maybe, Lana's hunch might be true.
* Lex tells his father he's "alive and kicking... no thanks to you."
* Lex tells Clark "I'm glad we're not brothers... no one deserves a father like mine." So obviously the truth is revealed, that Clark isn't the son of Lionel (as if there were any doubt! Plus there's the whole Greg and Marcia Brady thing going there that... nevermind...)

Episode #2-8: "Ryan"
Written By: Philip Levens
Guest Stars: Ryan Kelley (Ryan), William B. Davis (The Mayor)
Air Date: November 12, 2002

* Ryan, the "freak of the week" from "Stray," returns.
* A doctor named Dr. Garner has custody of Ryan and claims his aunt gave him up because of a "neurological condition" that required supervision. In truth, Ryan was being studied like a lab animal.
* We finally meet Pete's mother, Judge Sandra Ross.
* Ryan is put in the custody of the Kents again while things get sorted out.
* Clark "rescues" Ryan from wherever it is that he's held by bending steel with his bare hands. (He is Superman, after all!)
* Aunt Nell proposes a move away from Smallville to Lana. It sounds like her new fiancee wants them to move away with him.
* We learn Ryan's last name -- his name is Ryan James.
* Clark tracks down a doctor with some PET scans. Could the tests have affected Ryan negatively, forcing a doctor's opinion? It sounds likely, and he might need some last-ditch surgery or he won't be returning for a third episode.
* Smallville's mayor tries to make shady deals with Lex to ensure his re-election. We're not spoiling if he succeeds or not (it's called "watch the episode" people!) but we will tell you that one of the opponents will be someone you've heard of on the show before.
* Warrior Angel comic books come to play in this episode as well.

Episode #2-9: "Dichotic"
Written By: ?
Air Date: November 19, 2002

* In the tradition of recycling character names on Smallville (in this case, Sasha "Drone" Woodman), there is a teacher named Mr. Woodman.
* A portion of the episode takes place in shop class! Who says Season 2 isn't the year for actually going to school?
* It sounds like Chloe and Lana will soon be rooming with each other. "The girl of your dreams is going to be rooming with the girl who dreams about you," Pete tells Clark. "Guess who's going to be topic A when they start sharing their deepest secrets?" This might mean we're going to get some great Lana/Chloe moments in the show's future.
* A kid named Ian with a 4.0 average gets a bad mark in Mr. Woodman's class. And yep, he's the "Freak of the Week," with what sounds like the power to duplicate himself. (Maybe THIS one should have been "Duplicity!")
* Ian discovers Chloe's Wall of Weird, and the two of them seem to click quickly. Ian asks her out for coffee.
* Clark accuses Ian of playing Lana and Chloe off of each other. Gee, Clark wouldn't know anything about doing that now, would he?
* Jonathan gets an injury the tractor and Martha's still working for Lionel Luthor.
* Just like he looked out for his father in "Vortex," Lex tells the hospital to send Jonathan to Metropolis if need be.
* Lex spars with Jonathan's doctor. They definitely don't get along. She tells him that she knows him from "three years ago," but Lex can't place it. She reveals what the connection is, but again, wait for the episode to find out what it is!
* Lex makes a reference to Lexcorp's charities... perhaps he starts his own company to keep the fertilizer plant running?
* Cheesy Superman Reference alert: Clark makes a metal "S" in shop class.

Episode #2-10: "Skinwalker"
Written By: ?
Air Date: November 26, 2002

* Clark is rescued from a meteor rock passing-out by a Native American woman named Kyla. She teasingly refers to him as "the invincible Clark Kent."
* Native American mythology comes into play as Kyla tells Clark about Naman, "the saving one" who will defeat the great lion. Kyla thinks Clark might be this legendary being.
* One of the Native Americans asks Clark "You're not from around here, are you?" Moreso, he comments that with his cheekbones and that "unruly mop on your head," Clark might be part Kawatche himself.
* Martha is still Lionel Luthor's assistant, and Lionel says "I thought you had a talk about this" to her regarding Clark's overzealous courage.
* Lionel recognizes that the plant is running much more smoothly since Lex bought it, and more than that, he wants to work on a joint venture with Lex, as partners. You can probably guess how Lex will respond.
* Either Lex and/or Lionel knows of something special hidden in the Kawatche caves.
* It sounds like the Freak of the Week might be a violent white wolf with "green, piercing eyes."

More Spoilers

* Alfred Gough confirmed at the Comic-Con International in San Diego that Chloe Sullivan is indeed the cousin of Lois Lane.
* Will Lana and Clark date? "Maybe."
* Another character from the DC Comics universe of characters, most likely from Superman comics, will be showing up in the latter half of Season Two.
* It is widely known that the Smallville producers would like to have Bruce Wayne appear on the series. However, at this moment, there are no distinct plans that we know of, and with "Batman & Superman" the movie being a possibility, this might make it less likely.
* Whitney might show up for a guest starring appearance sometime in Season 2, to return to see if Lana has been faithful or not. A dollar says it will be right around the time things start going well for Clark and Lana. However, Alfred Gough did say at the Comic-Con International that "Whitney's gone."
* Red Kryptonite will most likely come into play during Season 2.
* After the main characters are done with high school, the show could follow the "WB formula" and send them to college. "But by the time he goes to Metropolis, the series will end," the producers say.
* More will be done with Pete this year (see other spoilers on this very page). "[Pete] deserves more than three lines per episode," the producers said.
* Another episode planned for Season 2 will be a "Smallville: The Day After" type story exploring what happened on the day after the meteor shower.
* Also planned for Season 2 will be more explorations into Lex Luthor's past, and also, an episode will take the gang to Metropolis.
* NEW! In an interview with Wizard magazine, show creators Al Gough and Miles Millar revealed their plans for Lois Lane and Perry White in Smallville. "Lois is in college," reveals Gough, "She's just a few years older than Clark, Lana and Chloe. And Perry White is a struggling, young reporter in his 20s. Working for the Daily Planet is a distant dreams for Perry at this stage of his life. But Lois is in college, and I don't think Lois and Clark get along at all."
