Hi Craig,
My name is Kendra Voth I work behind the scenes on the
set of Smallville in Vancouver. I imagine you have herd through
the grape-vine that I am working on the Super-Hero contest
with Ward Bingham from MONDONATION to raise money for a very
special family. Your support would be amazing
supporting
Parkers family is something that the Smallville Producers
and cast are absolutely passionate about. Parkers story touched
the hearts of all of us on the set of Smallville and we wanted
to find away to give them a very special Christmas gift. Originally
we wanted to auction off a walk on role, but due to certain
restrictions this was not possible. I refused to give up and
Allison Mack who is an amazing friend of mine was excited
to help while respecting the boundaries we were given.
Ward our friend from Mondonation then stepped up and offered
to sponsor a contest. He came up with the idea of giving away
a Mondonation Believe T-shirt signed by the cast.
We knew this wasnt near as cool as a walk on
but we were certain that the Smallville fans would come through.
Parker is a really cool 5 year old kid and his 12 year old
brother Brody is extremely brave. Brody is having a really
hard time dealing with his brothers illness he goes
long periods of time without talking and is very scared. Parker
made it through phase one of treatment but is not expected
to make it through phase two.
Here is PARKERS story.... a few weeks ago Parker
came to visit Smallville. Parker was introduced to me through
Richard Buckmaster (Gaffer). Parker is a 5 year old little
boy with cancer, HIGH RISK NEUROBLASTOMA Stage 4 (tumor, and
head to toe cancer everywhere in his blood); he has a 20%
survival rate. Parkers cancer started in his left kidney
and grew to a point where it was shoving his diaphragm up
into his left lung. He was diagnosed when he was 3 years of
age (on his moms birthday). Because of the cancer Parker
is blind in one eye, has only one kidney, lost 40% of his
hearing, and has permanent muscle damage to his legs.
By
the time his protocol was done, Parker and his mom Alex had
spent 205 out of 365 days in the hospital. Alex being a single
mom had to quit her job and her 12 year old son Brody had
to be taken in by Alexs cousin and family. Alex makes
ends meet through assisted living ($689.00 a month).
Alex, Parker and Brody are not giving up; they are hopeful
and determined to fight
.after all, Parker was never
supposed to make it this far.
I have never met a family with so much love, hope and
determination before. Despite this extremely difficult time
with Parkers illness, the absence of his Dad and his
mom having to quit her job, they are all pulling together
as a family.
I have lost some special people in my life and wish at
times that I had this type of love and support
giving
a gift like this to someone makes me feel like I am honoring
those that I have lost and I want to make them proud.
If you can help in any way it would be an amazing Christmas
gift for perhaps Smallvilles biggest fan!
