Smallville
Cast To Change In Season 4? E!
News Live caught up with Tom Welling, Sam Jones III, and Annette
O'Toole on Monday night, and came across some details previously
unrevealed about the show's future - the cast of Smallville
may be a little different when the show returns for Season 4.
"They
let me in on a few of the ideas and there's a few people leaving
the show and there's a few people coming back and there's some
people whose characters disappear," Tom told the show.
Sam
Jones III also commented on this. "Not everybody's coming
back to Smallville next year," he told the show.
We
here at KryptonSite have decided to be odds makers and speculate
on who they might be talking about. Here's our chart of the
chances on who might be on the way out:
John
Glover (Lionel), Odds: 5-1 The Magnificent You-Know-What is a joy to watch on
the screen, but, it's obvious Lionel has to die for the
Lex character to come to his full potential, so he'll
be going at some time. Having a rare liver disease doesn't
help Lionel's prognosis...
Sam
Jones III (Pete), Odds: 10-1 Note that Sam was the one to say "Not everyone's
coming back next year." Pete's virtually nonexistent
in most episodes unfortunately, so it wouldn't be surprising
if he were to move on. We kind of hope not... if the reaction
to Sam at the Paley Festival and Comic Con are any indication,
"Pete" is well loved among the fans.
John
Schneider (Jonathan), Odds: 20-1 We know Pa Kent's had heart problems as a result of
his deal with Jor-El. And the finale IS called "Covenant"
which may have something to do with that deal. Jonathan's
death would mean a lot to the story (yay for Martha having
more to do!), and his death would mean that his platitudes
would suddenly have more meaning, but we don't think we
can count him out just yet. John Schneider is a big draw
for older viewers, not to mention, what with his directing,
he sounds like a well loved member of the Smallville
team. But then again, the fact that he's loved is all
the more reason to tug at our heartstrings...
Allison
Mack (Chloe), Odds: 25-1 Chloe's absence from the comic books implies something
might happen to her character between now and the end
of the series... that's part of the fun, not knowing really
what happens to Chloe or Lionel. Hopefully it's realized
though that there are a lot of fans who tune in just for
the Chloe snark. We think she's safe, but get back to
us around the time the final episode is on.
Annette
O'Toole (Martha), Odds: 75-1 Annette's a busy woman, and a recent Oscar nominee
to boot. But, we don't think Smallville would let
go of Mama Kent just yet. In Superman history, it's always
been Jonathan who goes first... but also, Martha has not
yet had a chance to shine. So, we think she's pretty safe.
Michael
Rosenbaum (Lex), Odds: 300-1 You can't have the journey of Clark Kent to heroism
without Lex Luthor's journey into villainy. Michael surely
wants to go on and do movies, but hopefully he'll be wise
enough to wait until Smallville is over as a series.
A Smallville without Lex - we can't imagine it,
nor do we want to even think about it. Smells like X-Files
without Duchovny to us.
Kristin
Kreuk (Lana), Odds: 500-1 While there's a good gaggle of fans who can't stand
the character of Lana Lang, the basic truth is Kristin
is the show's female lead and she's very important to
the show's mythos, whether you like it or not.
Tom
Welling (Clark), Odds: 1,000,000-1 Yeah, like the show would get rid of its "Clark
Kent." I think the chances of Lana's dead parents
- er, parent returning is more likely than the show going
on without its lead actor.
No
One - They're Tricking Us! Odds: ???? It could just be that everyone is trying to trick
us into watching the season finale to find out what happens,
and that everyone is safe. That would be pretty sly, eh?
As
for "a few people coming back," we're assuming Tom
is referring to members of the 8-actor ensemble of the show....
if he means characters from the past, hrm, we wouldn't mind
seeing Emmanuelle Vaugier back to be a thorn in Lex's side.
