More Summer 1995 fun, seeing more of what went on in L&C fandom during that summer.

Issues #19 and #20 started to run Fanfiction in the pages of the Krypton Club Newsletter; in the interest of space, and because some of the writers at hand have [hopefully] gotten a LOT better in the 5 years since, those stories have been cut out of the newsletter.

TODAY'S TRIVIA
Here is the question for today.....

What is Martha (Ma) Kent's maiden name?

The answer to yesterday's trivia question: Teri Hatcher's birthday is December 8, 1964. PJLJT, GORDNBARB, JENNCU, LOCLLAKE, LOIS95, LISAREM, SUN GO KOU, BOBAFETTIV, SOUNDSQUAW, MAXMOUZE, and JENIK369 got it right!

CKLOIS missed it by a year; MEREDITH66 said her birthday's on the 8th, but she didn't specify what month; XFMULDER1 guessed September 21, 1965; and Brearley guessed June 30, 1981 (that would make Teri around thirteen....).

Send your answers and trivia guesses via e-mail. Even if you don't know it, it's worth a try!

We Gotta Fly! See you on Sunday!

L&C POLL #2 RESULTS
Last week, we had a poll as to which character from the Superman comics you'd like to see on "L&C." The results were surprising, even though not as many responded to this poll as to the last one. Here were the winners:

FIRST PLACE (4-way tie):
Bibbo--People want to see him on "L&C," because he's their "fav'rit."
Doomsday--That would make an awesome multi-part episode of L&C!"
Kenny Braverman/Conduit--This foe from CK's past would prove to be an interesting villian for CK on L&C.
Wonder Woman--Because all the world's waiting for her, and the powers she possesses. In her satin tights, fighting for her rights....

Runners-up:
2 votes apiece: Brainiac, The Flash, Krypto the Super-Dog
1 vote each: Alice (Perry's wife), Bloodsport, Guardian and the Newsboy Legion, Maxima, Rose & Thorn, Steve Lombard, Supergirl

Thanks to everyone who participated!

L&C POLL #3
Here's the poll for this week.....

Since it's summertime and a new episode of "L&C" won't be seen until September, we were wondering... what episodes of "L&C" do you watch tapes of to relieve your LCWS? Send your responses our way!

TAIGRE WANTS TO KNOW....
"In the interview he [Roger Stern] mentioned that one of his favorite
characters was Bibbo. Who the heck is Bibbo?!?!"

Bibbo is a friend of L&C in the Superman comics. He's this really big guy who runs a restaurant. Superman is his "fav'rit."

ALL OF METROPOLIS PULLING FOR "SUPERMAN" REEVE (AP)
Metropolis, Ill. -- Superman's hometown is pulling for its adopted son,
Christopher Reeve, and what better way than to send a superhero a super-sized get-well card?

Organizers of the 17th annual Superman Celebration have had an 8-foot card available for people to sign since Monday. They stopped counting after 3,000 signatures.

"I signed it because I thought it was a very nice thing for Christopher
Reeve," James Tidwell, a 9-year-old Superman fan from Paducah, Ky., said Friday.

The 42-year-old "Superman" actor was paralyzed from the neck down in a riding accident over the Memorial Day weekend and is being treated at the University of Virgina Medical Center in Charlottesville. He can move his shoulder muscles, his doctor said Friday, but there's no way to tell whether he will make any further recovery. In Metropolis, the red- and blue- framed plywood card near the base of the 15-foot Superman statue on Superman Square is stealing the show. The Chamber of Commerce and the Metropolis Planet weekly newspaper have been flooded with calls from all over the country with questions about the card, which will be sent to Reeve after the festival.

"Anytime anything has happened to Superman, like when he died in the comics or when the movies first came out, that certainly brings a new awareness that there is a real-life Metropolis and that we do have this celebration," said Clyde Wills, the Planet's editor and publisher.

This town of 6,700 was founded in 1839 along the Ohio River. It realized in the early 1970s, when it was going through tough economic times, that it was the only U.S. city with the name of Superman's home, so it claimed the Man of Steel for its own. Superman arrived on Earth from the planet Krypton in Action Comics in 1938. His alter ego was Clark Kent, who worked at the fictional Daily Planet in the imaginary city of Metropolis. Last year's Superman Celebration was the most successful ever, with about 50,000 to 60,000 visitors. Until Reeve's accident, some of the biggest draws this year were expected to be a "Supermania" wrestling match and appearances by former Superboy actor Gerard Christopher.

In Charlottesville, Reeve's wife, Dana, said Friday he had begun therepy for his paralysis and had been watching hockey on television.

"He is a fighter and survivor of the first order, but this has to be the
toughest challenge he has ever faced. I know it's mine," said the
34-year-old singer and actress.

The couple have been married for three years and have a 2-year-old son.

THE PLANET KRYPTON from the Atlas of the DC Universe
Special Thanks to XFMulder1 for sending this information.

The planet Krypton, which is the birthplace of Kal-El (also known as Superman), no longer exists. It was destroyed numerous years ago as a result of its highly unstable geological conditions.
Approximately the size of Earth, Krypton orbited a red sun some fifty light-years distance from Earth. Over 100,000 years ago, Krypton was already at a level of scientific achievement that surpasses that of present-day Earth. Kryptonians had perfected, among other things, the technique of cloning; they kept vast banks of non-sentient clones of every living Kryptonian for the purpose of replacing body parts worn out by age or damaged by injury. Along with the knowledge of how to retard the aging process, the Kryptonians were virtually immortal, death nearly unknown.
These early Kryptonians lived an idyllic life. They were dedicated to the advancement of science and art, and possessed a love of beauty and sensuality which was reflected in every aspect of their lives. Eventually, however, the pleasure-seeking Kryptonians grew too fond of their comforts, leading to many thousands of years of scientific stagnation.
A later political movement demanding equal rights for the clones kept in the body banks exploded into the Clone Wars, pitting clone rights activists against the rest of Krypton. As a result of the war, the Clone Banks were abolished and Kryptonians established new methods of prolonging their lives. During this era, Krypton's geneticists also discovered a method of giving birth that involved donated genetic tissue and a life-matrix device that was kept in gestaton chambers until the resultant living being was released at
birth. Procreation had become a cold, impersonal process, leading to a corresponding repression of the Kryptonian emotional and sexual culture, leaving the population emotionless and spiritually dead.
Krypton's final 1,000 years were thus spent, until the discovery by
famed scientist Jor-El of the instability of the planet's core. Since the
Kryptonians had alll but abandoned space travel during the era of scientific decline, they were trapped on this dying planet. The only survivor of the cataclysm which eventually blasted Krypon to rubble is Kal-El, whose life matrix was sent from Krypton to Earth aboard his father Jor-El's experimental star drive unit.
Among the known points of interest on Krypton was Kandor, Krypton's capital city and its center for scientific research and study. It was in Kandor that the elders of Krypton met. Kryptonopolis was the planet's secondary capital. One of the planet's most spectacular sights was Mt. Mudru, which at 211,000 feet above seas level, was Krypton's highest point. Other sights were the Ruins of Xan, home of the civilization of the Kryptonians ancestors, and the Glass Forest, a huge glen that was crystallized into glass by the heat from a powerful explosion.

Note: Watch for information on the history of Metropolis, so in-depth that it covers all the major industries and businesses and their owners.

L&C THIRD SEASON FILMING BEGINS JULY 12!!!!!!!!!!!!

L&C SIGHTINGS
Teri Hatcher's new Bally's commercial has been popping up all over the place, from ESPN to the UPN network.

BobaFettIV informs us that "The Cool Surface" starring Teri Hatcher will be on Showtime at 11:00pm on June 12.

Sage 17 informs us that both Dean Cain and Justin Whalin can be seen in the newest issue of "Seventeen" magazine.'

Soundsquaw tells us that Dean will be presenting at the Jim Thorpe Pro Sports Awards on July 8th. It will air on ABC that night.

JBecky spotted a pin-up Dean Cain in "Superstars," a special magazine from the makers of "16." She says "If you get past 'fish boy' [Jonathan Brandis] on the cover, it's an okay pic."

Gothamgrl went to the premiere for Batman Forever last night and she'd like to report that Dean Cain attended (sans Gabrielle Reece, I think they broke up). She also said of the movie, "The movie was great, I highly recommend it. An interesting note: Dr. Chase Meridian and Bruce Wayne/Batman's relationship develops the exact same way as Lois & Clark's, only Dr. Chase can put two & two together in two hours, Why is it taking Lois two seasons? Personal note: Lois must figure out CK=Supes. After all the clues dropped in her lap lately She would be galactically stupid not to figure it out even if CK doesn't tell her."

TODAY'S L&C TOP TEN LIST by ClarkXX & JennCu
From their home offices in Clinton, CT., and Yorba Linda, CA., JennCu and Clark XX have united agian to bring you the Top 10
reasons why Dan and Craig started their own fan club. are....

10. Their AOL bill was so low and they needed to use up their extra free time
9. Its so more educational than school, and MUCH more fun than studying
8. So Dean would say hello to them (which apparently failed)
7. Its more productive than writing hate-mail to SeaLeak
6. So some people would feel important to have at least ONE letter in their mailbox daily
5. They had a civic responsibility to support the FOLCs of America
4. What were they supposed to do, paint their toenails?
3. So everyone would send THEM the best news firsthand
2. Because they were kicked out of another club by the "Queen of L&C"
And the number #1 reason why Dan and Craig started their own fan club...
1. Because they love to see their names in print!

TODAY'S TRIVIA
Here is the question for today.....

Which two cast members of "Laverne & Shirley" have popped up on "L&C" in guest shots during its first two seasons?

The answer to yesterday's trivia question: Martha's maiden name is Clark. (Funny, how Martha Clark sounds a lot like Marcia Clark.... even though Martha's had her last name for many years before the O.J. trial). Anyways, LISAREM, RMARCI4245, GORDNBARB, DICK SIDBURY, XFMULDER, LOIS95, NCC17LU, AMY ROOS, SUSAN FULLERTON, SUPERMAN74, BREARLEY, TELEUTE00, AVIGAEL, LOCLLAKE, KRYPTO29, FLEISCH, STEPH1703, BOBAFETTIV, PONTELLIER, CALLINA, and MEREDITH66 got it right. JLEREBOURS, the only one who didn't get this one right, guessed her maiden name was "Jerome."

Send your answers and trivia guesses via e-mail. Even if you don't know it, it's worth a try!

That's it for this newsletter! Hope you enjoyed it! If anyone would still like copies of the John Byrne or Roger Stern interviews, e-mail

"C.K., YOU ARE THE MAN!"

K CALLAN & EDDIE JONES: LEAVING "L&C?"
We have been told that K Callan and Eddie Jones have not yet renewed their contracts, and that they may not have to. It appears that Warner Brothers doesn't feel that they are "necessary" to the show for it's third season.

We here at the Krypton Club Newsletter think that is wrong. K and Eddie are a very important part of "L&C," in their roles as "Ma" and "Pa" Kent. K's interpretation of Ma is funny and enjoyable, and Eddie's Pa is the dad we would all wish for. It is good for C.K. to have someone (besides possibly Lois) to confide in. Without Ma and Pa we beleive there would be a void.

Surely it is not too late to write to Warner Bros. and tell them to renew those contracts! K and Eddie are two very talented people playing two very likable characters. Let's not send them into the TV "limbo" where Jack and Cat have been resting for the past year!

"DAILY PLANET" BUILDING SPOTTED IN "THE MASK"
The Daily Planet building can be seen in the Jim Carrey movie "The Mask!" In the scene when he comes out of the park and sings Cuban Pete, the building that the police are standing in front of is the Daily Planet! Also the theatre across the street was for where they held the Kerth Awards. Thanks to Soundsquaw for this information!

TODAY'S QUOTE
Today's quote is often heard from the voice of Jimmy Olsen. It is
particularly remembered for the exchange in "Man of Steel Bars," where Jimmy (the REAL one) says to Clark, "C.K., you are the man!" Lois gives him a dirty look, so then he says "And you are the woman!"

L&C POLL #3
Here's the poll for this week.....

Since it's summertime and a new episode of "L&C" won't be seen until September, we were wondering... what episodes of "L&C" do you watch tapes of to relieve your LCWS? Here's what you've said so far....

L&C SIGHTINGS
Dean Cain is listed as a "bad" person to have a relationship with in the newest YM "Love" Special. While many people believe this to be false, you still should be able to find it on your newsstand if you want to read the article for yourself.

Teri Hatcher was on the morning show "Good Day LA" when she said the following of next season: "I am more excited about this season of scripts than I have been about anything that's gone on in the past two seasons."

THIS WEEK'S L&C RATINGS by Sun Go Kou
Last week's L&C episode dropped to #43, with "Friends" being the first, and "Turning Point" at second, and the NBA Finals Game 1 at third.

TODAY'S L&C TOP TEN LIST by LisaREM
Here they are, the top ten reasons to keep watching them reruns....

#10. It IS Lois and Clark, after all....
#9. Hey, Mayson was resurrected!
#8. You can see those nifty ties again!
#7. Just wait until Target: Jimmy Olsen-- Scardino-punch!!

Can you really call yourself a FOLC if you DON'T watch?!?

L&C LYRIC WRITING CONTEST: WHAT'S UP?!?!!?!
Only two people responded to our lyric writing contest... what's up with that? Here are the two ones we got..... since there are only two entries, it would be somewhat unfair to choose a winner....

From MAXMOUZE, we got this one.....

Do do do do do
Do do do do do
("It's a bird.")
Do do do do do
Do do do do do
("It's a plane.")
Do do do do do
Do do do do do

"No, it is the New Adventures of Superman!"
"If anyone can save the world, this guy can!"
"He's in a fix
"using all of his tricks
"As reporter Clark Kent."

"CK wears a disguise."
"His secret is hidden above his eyes."
"Very few know that he is the Man of Steel."
"Maybe one day they'll know."

"Superman."

And here is what we received from MarthaRB:

"We are Lois & Clark, yes we are
Our relationship has grown so much this far
Though we still have our downs, we can reach stars.
We will be forever friends."

And, to make it look like we Krypton Club Presidents do more than sit on our duffs and complain about herpees beasts, here's one from our very own KryptonFX.....

"Lois and Clark, are so cool
Why does that stupid Scardino act like such a tool?
The new Jimmy's a dork, but we're getting used to him
Bring back Landes anyday!

Lex Luthor, is so mad
Because Superman is beating him up really bad
But what no one knows is, that Supes is Clark Kent
Mild-mannered reporter!"

TODAY'S TRIVIA
Here is the question for today.....

"Sheldon Bender," Lex Luthor's lawyer, was played by a child star of a long-running 1960's TV series. Who played Bender, and what show was he on?

The answer to yesterday's trivia question: The cast members from "Laverne & Shirley" who have appeared on "L&C" were Cindy Williams, who played Shirley on "L&S," and Michael McKean, who played Lenny. MAXMOUZE, Brearley, XFMulder1, Chakespear, Karen 7, GordNBarb, BJPoirier, and Ann-Marie Myers were correct in guessing both of them.

Ad VanCian guessed that the guests were "Squiggy" and "The Big Ragoo;" Lori Gorsch, JLerebours, Lisa Freedman, MarthaRB, and Soundsquaw got only "Shirley;" and KLV13 and Krypto29 got "Shirley" right, but incorrectly guessed "Squiggy" too.

Send your answers and trivia guesses via e-mail. Even if you don't know it, it's worth a try!

TODAY'S QUOTE
Today's quote came from the new movie "Batman Forever," when Bruce Wayne said "He's halfway to Metropolis by now." Even though it is not a quote from L&C, I think you'd agree that it was a reference to the town that Lois and Clark live in.

"BATMAN FOREVER:" "L&C" HITS THE BIG SCREEN?!?!
by Craig Byrne

Having seen the new movie "Batman Forever" on Friday, I couldn't help but notice the parallels between "BF" and "Lois & Clark." For one thing, there is the "love triangle" thing you find on "L&C;" except you substitute Bruce Wayne, Batman, and Dr. Chase Meridian into the roles of Clark Kent, Superman, and Lois Lane. There was even the interrupted "I've been completely honest with you, except for one thing, I'm---" just like on recent episodes of "L&C."

There were also many times where Lois and Clark could have easily fit in to the film. Can you imagine Superman battling the Riddler and Two-Face? I can. Can you imagine a bad guy ramsacking Clark's apartment? It's happened before on "L&C." There were even several times, such as at Edward Nigma's party, where you would half-way expect L&C to be there.

There was only one big difference between the new installment in the Batman series of films and "L&C," which was eloquently pointed out by Lisa Freedman: "Lois Lane is some investigative reporter. In Batman Forever, it took Chase Meridian two days to figure Batman is Bruce Wayne, and only ONE kiss. Not only that, it took her a night to figure that she wanted Bruce instead of Batman, while it took Lois a LONG time to see it."

Let's hope the popularity of the new "Batman" film will rub off on "L&C," considering that both are more alike than one would expect.

KRYPTON CLUB LETTER OF THE DAY
Here we go, presenting the very first "Krypton Club Letter of the Day!" The writer of that letter will see his or her letter printed in its entirety in the Krypton Club Newsletter. There are no rules for winning Letter of the Day, because Craig and Dan arbitrarily choose the ones they like the best.***

Here it is....

Craig and 92,

Don't know if you've heard anymore about this yet, other than what you included in the newsletter, but I was talking to Zoomway yesterday about this development. She passed along my concerns to K Callan, who replied back as follows:

> "It was all about their not honoring the contract they made with us > two years ago. This year called for us to do more episodes (10 of
> 13) and WB said "No, we just want you for 7 of 13 as in the past." > If we had not gone for it, they would not have renewed the contract. > But, we did.
>
> Thanks so much for sending me John's note. It always makes me > feel good to know that there are folks who feel we make a real
> contribution to the show."

So they will be back next season. Since the listserv is still down, you may want to include this info in your next newsletter. Might as well allay any fears the FOLCS may have concerning further decimation of the supporting characters in the show.

Instructions: Convert all your Lois and Clark pictures to bmp format. You may need to download a converter at keyword "viewers." Save all your Lois and Clark pictures to the directory, Afterdark bitmaps. You can do this by viewing them in a program like windows paintbrush and then saving them to that directory. Go to After Dark and select slide show. Push "select pictures" and then click on the directory that has them in it. Now when your screen saver comes on it will show L & C pictures!

2. Lois and Clark Computer Sounds
--Needs: Windows, L&C sounds

Instructions: Go to control panel, it's probably in the "Windows" group. Click on "Sounds." To the left you will see a listing of actions such as "exit windows" and "printer out of paper." Find the L&C sounds you have on your computer, and select one of them for a computer action of the left. Example: Windows Start (in the left column) and sound file LCtheme.wav (in the second column). I have the theme song play at the opening of Windows! Note: they must be wav. files.

3. Lois and Clark Wallpaper
--Needs: Windows, Control Panel and Desktop

Instructions: The first thing you will need to do is save a .bmp picture to the Windows directory. To do this, open the picture in a viewing program like paintbrush, and then when you save it click on the windows directory. Then go to "control panel" and then to "desktop." Then select the name of the picture file under the "wallpaper" list. Then click "OK."

If you follow these instructions, you will have multiple L & C things on your computer. An example is my computer. At startup of windows it plays the L&C theme song. If I make a mistake, it says, "Hello, Duh, Clark Kent is Superman!" When the screen saver is on, tons of L&C pics flash before my eyes. Also at startup of windows I see a picture (my wallpaper) of Lois and Superman!

If you have any questions, which I'm sure you will, email them to me and I will try to help you step by step to get these ideas to work.

TODAY'S TRIVIA
Here is the question for today.....

Who is the current owner of the Daily Planet?

The answer to yesterday's trivia question: Sheldon Bender was played by Barry Livingston, who as a child played "Ernie" on the long-running 1960's TV series "My Three Sons." Soundsquaw, Brearley, CFind1955, Ann-Marie Myers, and MHebert974 got this one right. Dan Cataldo got the show and the family right, but he guessed it was Stanley Livingston (who played Ernie's brother, Chip, on the show.) JennCu guessed that Bender was played by Jerry Mathers, the Beaver.

Send your answers and trivia guesses via e-mail. Even if you don't know it, it's worth a try!

Howdy,

The current owner is James Earl Jones or Luke Skywalker's father.

And I thought you guys dedicated the newsletter to the L.A. Laker, Eddie Jones, but I was mistaken. Pa Kent is pretty cool too.

Bye,
Melanee

[While this may not have been L&C informative, I was ROFLMAO when I read this. --Craig]

L&C SOUNDS REVISITED
Here is a letter we got from Debby Stark....

"In a recent issue you suggested people put L&C sounds on their computer.
There are a good many sounds to be found on my ftp site. They are ".au"
sounds and I think they're for the Mac (don't ask me, I don't have a sound
card; I'm subleasing the space for the sound storage).

Also, there are a number of stories at my site, and I'd like to have more.

#4. FOLC who can't find any L&C stuff in the stores and just can't take it any more.

TODAY'S TRIVIA
Here is the question for today.....

Who has guest-starred on "L&C" twice, playing different characters each time?

The answer to yesterday's trivia question: Franklin W. Stern, played by James Earl Jones, is the owner of the Daily Planet. LisaREM, JBecky, Soundsquaw, Lois95, Moonshade8, Ad VanCian, Pontellier, Aymee13662, Steph2703, Unicorn772, Patrick Vanbrabandt, Brearley, Dick Sidbury, Sarah Gevlin, MDS615, L0303, ClarkXX, LDM ECO, Setauket John, Erik Lewis, and Callina got this one right. This one was WAY too easy. Several people said "Mufasa" or "Darth Vader"--but one thing was certain, they knew the answer. JennCu guessed "Howard Stern"... ha ha very funny. =^p
