THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO RETURNS TO TV?

ARTICLE UPDATE: Unfortunately, it seems that a TV pilot for Ralph Hinkley & co. is not in the offing for now... but rather, that the casting sides that were sent out were for a fan film. :( While we're sure said fan film will be quite cool, and we'll post more information about it if and when it becomes available, it's kind of a bummer because a new Greatest American Hero television project would be so much cooler than a movie...

The fan film project has no connection to the Greatest American Hero movie in development by Stephen J. Cannell.

Here's the original article, for posterity. Sorry to get everyone's hopes up! So, no, it's not for a TV project; but rather a fan film. Our apologies for any misinformation.

It Might Be Time To Bring Back The Red Jammies...

Casting sides have gone out for a TV pilot reviving 1980s TV classic The Greatest American Hero.

Stalwart characters Ralph Hinkley, Pam Davidson, and Bill Maxwell are all featured, and, like the ill-fated Greatest American Heroine pilot back in 1986... a female now has the suit. This time it's Ashley Rizzo, a student of Ralph's, because "somehow the suit cloned itself." When Maxwell finds out that Rizzo is not only a highschooler, but also a cheerleader, he says that he's "died and gone to Hell."

Ashley apparently "finds" this duplicate of Ralph's suit by his desk. When Ralph confronts her about it, a radio sound emits from the suit that tells him to train her to be an asset to him and Max.

Ralph's students include Tony and Rhonda, just like the old days. In the script pages Ralph is described as "in his 30's" which implies that William Katt and company might not be involved. Which is a shame, because no one plays Ralph like William Katt and no one would bring the right vibe to Bill Maxwell that Robert Culp did.

The very weird part about this leaked casting information is that, to our knowledge, nothing has been announced about a new Greatest American Hero TV project, though a movie has been rumored for years. There has also been a GAH web series announced, and this could theoretically fit the bill as being a casting call for that. If a new TV series does come to fruition, you can expect to find details here. Either way... talk about it on our forums... and if more details about a Greatest American Hero update come out, you read about the project here first, unless it turns out that some fan fiction of some sort leaked out as casting notices...
