After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission. Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny and the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures.

Any word on if this series will require me to watch the other two? I would love to break into this franchise, but not a ton of time.

Probably not. Not sure if a current SG character from the 2 shows will jump to this one or not. Atlantis and SG-1 had a bunch of cross overs in the first seasons of Atlantis. Though you could probably still have watched just the one and got along fine. With no other SG show on (Atlantis ends with Season 5, apparently they don't have to money to do both shows at the same time), I'm guessing newbies won't have to worry too much about not understanding something.

Hmm well Im hoping for some crossover, or just any mention of SG1. I'll still watch it though if it didnt.

There was a rumour that the 3rd SG-1 movie would tie into this new show. But they keep changing their minds about Stargate.

It's looking like they've recruited a heavy hitting cast so far, ranging from a smallville alumni to the old chun li from the streetfighter movie and robert carlysle - anyone looking forward to the series as much as I am?

What exactly is this about? And will I be able to watch it without having seen all the other series(i've only seen the old stargate movie none of the tv shows) and understand whats going on?

EDIT: Can a Mod change the title of the thread? The channel is no longer called SCI-FI, its now SYFY. And it airs Oct. 2nd;They changed their minds about a summer premiere.

Only a few more hours, I can't wait!

I am eagerly waiting, I have a feeling my favorite character will be Dr. Rush (Robert Carlyle). But then again, I don't really know much about the other characters.

I dvr'd it... will definitely be watching

I didn't get into SG1 until Ben Browder joined (loooove him and loved Farscape) and really enjoyed the last 2 seasons... this new one sounds great!
