Ep 3.21 - Forsaken
A mystic knife may fulfill a prophecy, but what will it reveal in the end? The burden of Clark's secret causes Pete to make an important decision, and Lex finally has the evidence to put Lionel behind bars.

Sad that nobody has commented on Forsaken yet. I remember being horribly disappointed by this one. Bringing Emily Dinsmore back was such a lousy idea when there were far more important things they should have been focusing on. Pretty bad episode all around.

I'm glad that Pete left the way he did. The scene showed a lot of emotion and now Clark had to deal with the fact that he could never tell Lana his secret.

When Pete left, I was really sad because it seemed he had to be made to leave in order to keep Clark' s secret. It was heartbreaking to see Pete saying goodbye.
I also thought that it was a lousy idea in bringing Emily Dinesmore. It made no sense. But alll in all was sort of a good episode. |

Emily was super creepy, but it's still a great episode. One of the saddest of the whole series, and a good example of the tragic nature of the story.
I loved the silence of the end of the Clana barn scene. It was so haunting and ominous. You really felt Clark's loneliness. Very excellent scene! Other highlights: You see Clark make a bold decision, and then change his mind, for noble reasons. He is very Superman-like in this episode. The one-up-man's ship between Lex and Lionel is fabulous. Great dialogue and acting by MR and JG. The Lex-Pete interaction on the dock was something unique and had foreshadowing. Cool. |

While I didn't care too much for the Emily plot, I loved the rest of the scenes from the episode.

The Emily Dinismore plot seemed silly and forced (I kept waiting for someone to say "well, you had to be attacked one last time by a meteor freak before leaving, lana!"
). I also didn't like the abruptness of Pete leaving. Basically, I didn't care for this episode (except I did love Martha's reaction to Clark saying he was going to tell Lana, that was good). |

I agree, Emily re-appeared and then re-disappeared too easily. Two lines of dialog explain what happened to her, and that she won't be a threat to Lana anymore. If they were going to use Emily in an episode again, they should have at least made it a standard FOTW episode, and give things a little more time to develop.

Forsaken
WHAT DID I THINK OF Forsaken?
Forsaken: 1) What I like about Forsaken are the Clark & Pete scripts and scenes. This is the best part of Forsaken: the Pete & Clark relationships, since Forsaken was the last episode for Sam Jones III who plays Pete Ross: Pete tells Clark that his mom is moving to Wichita and that his Dad is staying in Smallville. Clark tells Pete he's sorry about the divorce. Clark says to Pete, "Pete, you're not losing your family. It's just changing. Trust me, I know how hard it can be when you find out your parents are hiding things from you. So what are you gonna do?" Pete replies to Clark, "I didn't go through 3 years of High School just to miss out on senior year." Clark asks Pete, "Do you ever wish I never told you about me?" Pete answers Clark, "It's rough covering with Chloe and everybody, but the truth is, no one's ever put that much trust in me before." Clark: Get out there and take your shot. Pete: Yeah, she's moving to Wichita. Clark: Wichita? Pete: Yeah, she got the federal judgeship. She starts work on Monday. Clark: That was fast. What about your dad? Pete: He's staying in Smallville. Clark: I guess that means they're going through with the divorce. I'm really sorry, Pete. Pete: I've been avoiding the whole thing. But I knew when I finally told you, it'd definitely sink in. I guess you're the last man standing in a nuclear family zone. Clark: Pete, you're not losing your family. It's just changing. Trust me, I know how hard it can be when you find out your parents are hiding things from you. Pete: Well, it's just so weird when you realize that the people you thought had all the answers are... just human like everybody else. Clark: So what are you gonna do? Pete: I didn't go through three years of high school just to miss out on senior year. Clark: I wish Lana felt that way. Pete: I'm gonna say this once, and then it falls into the "None of My Business" category. The whole yo-yo thing with you and Lana has gotta stop. Clark: You sound like Lex. He thinks I'm the reason Lana's leaving. Pete: Well, I hate to agree with Uncle Fester, but I don't think Lana's going to Paris just to see the Mona Lisa. Clark: Do you ever wish I never told you about me? Pete: It's rough at times covering with Chloe and everybody, but the truth is, no one's ever put that much trust in me before. You're not thinking about coming clean with Lana, are you? Clark: It might be the only way to stop her from getting on that plane. 2) This next favorite scene is the Clark & Martha relationship. I liked the script about them talking about Clark telling Lana his secret: Clark tells his mom he invited Lana over. Clark tells his mom Martha that he'll tell Lana everything tonight, when Lana comes over to have dinner with Clark. Martha tells Clark that it's a huge burden and a big responsibility. She says, "Look at Pete. It hasn't been easy for him." Clark tell his mom, "I know. Pete has had some close calls. But I'm still glad I told him, and so is he. It's made us better friends." Martha asks Clark if Lana is ready? Clark tells his mom that Lana keeps asking him to be honest with her. Then Martha replies: "I trust you to make your own decision." Martha: Hi. Clark: Hey, Mom. Martha: Ooh. Does this mean I'm off the hook for dinner? Clark: I invited Lana over. Martha: It must be hard to say goodbye. Clark: Well, if this works, I won't have to. Martha: Clark, do you think it's fair to keep doing this to her? Clark: No. That's why I've decided to tell her tonight. Martha: Tell her? Clark: Everything. Martha: Clark. Asking someone to keep your secret is a big responsibility. You know, look at Pete. It hasn't been easy for him. Clark: I know. Pete has had some close calls. But I'm still glad I told him, and so is he. It's made us better friends. Martha: Are you sure Lana's ready? Clark: She keeps asking me to be honest. I owe her the chance to decide for herself. Martha: I guess it's not fair to raise you as one of us and then try to keep you from experiencing one of the best parts of life. Clark: So you're okay with this? Martha: I trust you to make your own decision. 3) This is the last scene of Clark & Pete. This was a very emotional scene between 2 best friends: Clark asks Pete what happened to him. Pete told him an FBI agent went after him asking questions about his best friend Clark Kent. Pete tells Clark that he hasn't told the FBI Clark's secret. Clark says to Pete, "I should have been there." Pete says that Clark can't always be there. Pete tells Clark that Lex knows something about him, because he pulled the Fed off of him (Pete). Pete tells Clark to keep an eye on Lex. Then he says to Clark, "Look out for yourself." Clark says, "Pete. What are you talking about?" Pete tells Clark he's moving to Wichita with his mom. Pete admits to Clark (about his secret), "I know I told you that keeping your secret wasn't hard. But I lied. I walk around every day afraid that I'm gonna slip up." Clark asks Pete,"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Pete: "Because you needed a friend. And so did I. There's a lot of things that I can handle. But I could never live with myself if I ever betrayed you. I'll see you around, Clark." Then they huggrd each other, and that embrace will be unforgettable. Clark: Hey, Pete. What happened to you? Pete: FBI agent decided to go off payroll, wanted to know about you. Don't worry, I didn't tell him anything. Clark: I should have been there. Pete: That's just it. You can't always be there. I gotta look out for myself. I just thought you should know they're onto you. Clark: Thanks for the warning. Pete: Clark, the FBI isn't who I'm really warning you about. Lex was there. He's the one who pulled the Fed off me. Clark: He's-he's investigating his father, not me. Pete: That doesn't matter. He knows. Now, I'm not exactly sure how much, but he's not gonna stop until he's got everything. Clark you've got to keep an eye on him. Look out for yourself. Clark: Pete. Why are you talking like that? Pete: I'm moving to Wichita with my mom. Clark: No, Pete. I thought that... What about senior year? Pete-- Pete, you can't do this because of me. Pete: I know that I told you keeping your secret wasn't hard. But I lied. I walk around every day afraid that I'm gonna slip up. Clark: Well, why didn't you tell me sooner? Pete: Because you needed a friend. And so did I. Clark: You don't have to move away. You don't have to change your whole life. There's got to be a way. No one even has to know we're friends. Pete: There's a lot of things that I can handle. But I could never live with myself if I betrayed you. Clark: Pete... I'll see you around, Clark. 4) This last scene that I like are the Lana & Clark scenes. One is when Clark was supposed to tell Lana his secret: Clark: Lana, I know you're busy with the move and everything, but I was wondering if you'd want to have dinner with me. Tonight. Lana: I don't know if that's such a great idea, Clark. Clark: There's something I should've told you. I should've told you a long time ago. Lana: Is everything okay? Clark: I hope it will be. Lana: Yeah, of course. Of course I'll be there. The other scene is when Clark & Lana talk to each other and Lana reminds Clark that he was supposed to tell her something that was important: Lana: I'm just sorry that I ruined dinner. Clark: That's okay. I'm sure I've racked up more than a few IOUs. Lana: Well, I was really looking forward to it. Clark: So was I. Lana: So, um, there's something that you wanted to tell me. What was it? Clark: I just wanted to tell you... Have a great time in Paris. I hope you've found what you're looking for. Lana nods, a little disappointed. Her eyes fill with tears. Lana: Goodbye, Clark. Last edited by tibbit78; 10-22-2008 at 06:36 PM. |

The fact that they didnt make Clark tell Lana the secrete in this episode really turned me off of the show at this point. I also hate that they wait till season 6 for her to learn his secrete one it was stupid they way she learned and it was useless for her to learn at that point.
