  • Spectacular plot for Season 10 involving Intergang, General Lane, Martha & more

I've been thinking about a spectacular plot for Season 10 that would bring more of the Superman elements into the show and put the focus of the show back on Clark since it has frequently strayed away from him & on characters since season 6. I came up with a good portion of it last year around this time and added new elements to make it better and bring in more characters who have been frequently seen in the comics.

Anyway, to start things off, the current season's plot would end and the Kandorians will be gone and Clark will find his way back if he ends up getting banished to "another plane of existence", whether that's New Krypton, Apokolips, the Phantom Zone, or wherever. The first episode could wrap up the current season's plot. Brainiac could be brought back if they wanted since they set the stage for his return if you check out my theory:

Post your wildest theories, speculation, musings about what's going to happen on the show. ALL threads containing spoilers must be marked with the word SPOILER in the subject line.

He could release Zod's phantom from the Phantom Zone to have it permanently possess Major Zod's body after he (Brainiac) delivers a lethal blow to Major Zod where he injects the serum he injected Lex with back in Oracle once General Zod takes his body so his body would recover. This would happen after Major Zod & Clark fought and Zod realized what Brainiac was up to at the last second & dies having been morally saved. Brainiac would then leave Earth having accomplished his #1 goal to free Zod and would travel the galaxy in search of more planets whose knowledge he could steal. Clark could then fight General Zod & banish him to the Phantom Zone, thus wrapping the season 9 plot by the end of the episode. This would bring both General Zod & Brainiac back as they are both canon characters & set them up for future battles with Clark after he becomes Superman.

Also in the premiere, we would get scenes mixed in with Bruno Mannheim, where he reads an article by Lois about the Kandorians or Checkmate and how they targeted beings with superpowers, something that angers him because he believes he should be on the streets taking the powered heroes down. Near the end of the episode a figure emerges from the shadows as Bruno Mannheim learns he's being released from prison and it's revealed as Morgan Edge, who survived what happened to him back in Shattered & has been living off the radar.

In the 2nd episode of the season, Watchtower is found to be defunct & Morgan Edge along with Bruno Mannheim take it over and turn it into Intergang's headquarters as they officially form the group.

In the 3rd episode of the season, Morgan Edge would have his minions throw a Blur appreciation party in Metropolis for the Blur having gotten rid of the Kandorians after Lois writes an article about how the Blur saved Earth from them. Clark would be invited as the guest reporter to cover the event from the Daily Planet & Edge would have the punch at the party spiked with liquid red-k. It would be revealed that Edge learned that red-k was responsible for Clark's actions in Exile while he was in hiding. The purpose of this would be to have his men recruit Clark to rendezvous with an alien contact Morgan Edge made recently in order to execute a deal between Intergang & the contact.

The contact turns out to be none other than Desaad from Apokolips, the planet ruled by Darkseid. They could establish that Darkseid believes that human fluids hold the key to the Anti Life Equation through interaction between Edge & Desaad. The deal would be to exchange human fluids for the weapons Intergang is seeking, using Clark as an operative to make the deal because he would need to meet Desaad on Apokolips and Edge doesn't want to risk sending his men through a Boom Tube to Apokolips after recently acquiring a mother box from Desaad as a result of Darkseid's interest in Earth. So Edge would have his men prepare Clark with the mother box & show him what he needs to do to use it.

Clark then goes through with it & after obtaining the weapons, he decides to take the human fluids back from Desaad and screws both Edge & Desaad. He returns to Earth & turns in the weapons to the U.S. government & writes a major headline of what Intergang did, but without knowledge that Morgan Edge or Bruno Mannheim were behind the deal or that Edge is the leader of Intergang with Mannheim as his 2nd in command. In his article, he pimps out the Blur because red-k in this episode is shown to bring out a more cocky approach as the Blur while also bringing out his true hidden desire to write major headlines as a journalist. The red-k ultimately wears off, but Clark is left with the realization that he really loves his job & hasn't been giving it the priority it deserves.

Later on in the season, Morgan Edge would meet with General Lane, who is revealed to be in charge of locking down the weapons from Apokolips. Morgan Edge then recommends some of his minons/operatives to General Lane as people he should bring in to help him because they have information that would be vital to Lane. He would tell General Lane about the Blur and how the Blur poses a threat and how the men he's recommending to Lane (Edge's operatives) can help Lane stop the threat. And to make things even more interesting, Edge would use his knowledge of Clark's powers (him being the Blur) & his knowledge of knowing Lois is Clark's girlfriend to his advantage, by telling General Lane that his daughter is close to the Blur & in great danger. This makes General Lane listen to Morgan Edge & hires the men Edge recommends to him. Not long after, Edge's Intergang operatives that General Lane unknowingly hired execute a plan to steal the Apokolips weapons & obtain them.

At this point, there is no public connection between Morgan Edge & Intergang, so General Lane has no clue who stole the weapons. Meanwhile, over the past several weeks, Intergang operatives have begun infiltrating Metropolis City Hall and various businesses & government agencies. Once they have the weapons, their power is cemented.

After the weapons get stolen, Martha shows up as Clark's Washington D.C. contact & tells him that the weapons were stolen after finding out since she sits on committees involving the military & speaks to General Lane frequently. She also acts as a liason between General Lane & The Blur and helps rebuilds the trust between Lane and the Blur over the course of the season.

Ultimately towards the end of the season, after finding out earlier that Morgan Edge has returned and teamed up with Bruno Mannheim back at the midpoint of the season, Clark would write a career-defining expose on Intergang and how Edge is alive and the leader of Intergang & is the one who stole the weapons. In his article, he would highlight all the branches of government that were corrupted by Intergang & outlines the various operatives involved and the politicians who are on the take.

Reasons why a plot like this would be so interesting & why it would work:

-This fires up things up and places Clark & the Blur in the crosshairs of not only Intergang but Darkseid as well. In the comics, Intergang's #1 enemy is Superman & their #2 enemy is Clark Kent. Here, it would be even more interesting because Morgan Edge would know that Clark is the Blur & would use that info to his advantage but at the same time won't divulge it to anyone because it gives him an edge (no pun intended) over his rivals.

-It finally gets Clark to take his role as a reporter seriously & brings out the passion he should be showing for his job as a journalist.

-Intergang would be solely Clark's story. Lois would have received other stories along the way & would be building her reputation. Since Clark doesn't have a reputation for being a good reporter, this would give him his own article and would convincingly show why he deserves to work with Perry White. Given how much Intergang hates Clark too, renewing Morgan Edge's feud with him and using this to lead to Clark's career-defining headline on Intergang's activities all by himself would be one of the smartest moves ever done in the series.

-It allows characters like Martha & General Lane to come back & gives them valid reasons for being involved in the storyline.

-It also allows Perry White to return if Michael McKean wants to make recurring appearances because the entire storyline would be based in Metropolis & on Superman characters (not other DC characters).

-It gives an excellent reason for Darkseid to show up on Earth if TPTB choose to bring Darkseid on the show. If Clark while on red-k screws Darkseid & Intergang in that deal, there's no way he would let Clark off the hook & would be in pursuit. There would be no more of a perfect way to bring Darkseid to the show if that's what they want. Even though what I laid out sets up Darkseid, I would only recommend doing it if they would get a significantly larger budget in season 10 than they got for the last several seasons. At least 3-4 times if not 5 times the budget of season 9. Otherwise, it will be a repeat of Doomsday & I wouldn't want the Intergang storyline to suffer because they want to bring in Darkseid but don't have the budget to pull it off decently. Worst case, this plot could set up Darkseid so that in the final moments of the series, Clark becomes Superman & prepares to fight Darkseid as the series ends. So even though this perfectly sets up Darkseid, no matter what, he should take a back seat to Intergang who should be the #1 enemy, especially if the budget isn't there for Darkseid.

-It keeps the focus on Clark, Lois, Intergang & various Superman-related characters in Metropolis (not Justice League related characters). It would keep the focus on Clark rather than other heroes, which needs to happen in the last season where every episode is important & can not be wasted.

-Given that Morgan Edge not only has a history with Clark, but with Lex too, they could segue Lex if Michael Rosenbaum decided to make a final appearance in the last episode or 2. Besides that, it gives Lex a chance to fill in the void left by politicians who get arrested for aligning themselves with Intergang so he could begin his climb to becoming President of the U.S.

-Based on this idea, Intergang would require casting Rutger Hauer or Patrick Bergin as Morgan Edge and Dominic Zamprogna as Bruno Mannheim. The other members could be minions who could be cast with lower level actors.

-Involving General Lane into the storyline would also allow John Corben/Metallo to return during the season in a role. They could have him be sent by the government to track down the stolen weapons & have a battle between Metallo & Intergang. Or they could have General Lane send Metallo after the Blur by making Lane initially believe that the Blur stole the weapons because he knows they could be used against him & wanted to prevent that. This would be before Martha sets up a meeting between the Blur & Lane to rebuild Lane's trust in the Blur.

The bottom line: There's no way they could lose by making this the plot of Season 10.

I'd sure like to see season 10 roll out this way. If General Zod were to take over Major Zod's body...............I want him to be able to access Major Zod's memories and feel the pain of seeing the Major killing Faora and their child. Then see the General turn on Brainiac......for letting that happen!!!!!!!

As long as neither Brainiac nor Zod are dead when it's over & the 2 are gone by the Season 10 premiere the latest, I'd be OK with that. It would probably be good because it would make Brainiac his own villian when Clark as Superman will face him in the future.

It would be great for a lot of that to happen. As you know, I'm still not sure Morgan Edge survived "Shattered" but other than that, it would be great. I also like the idea that Darkseid would be used only when needed.

Yes, that's because I don't trust the runners of this show with Darkseid after the Doomsday fiasco.
