The first couple episodes are written and they start production August 10th.
I'm going to guess it will take just as long to make an episode of V as it does
Smallville which is about two weeks so by the end of August, they should
be done with the Pilot and the first episode and be hard at work on the
second episode. It will be exciting to see this show progresses through
some of your spoilers, Craig.

The inside of the mothership being done on green screen. I hope it
looks good and not like much of the CGI I've seen in movies lately.
The CGI for the inside of Babylon 5 in "Babylong 5: The Lost Tales"
looked really good, much better than the regular series.

Is it just me or did they just admit to maybe making Erica/Father Jack a pairing?

Father Jack, for instance, was originally written as much younger, and as we started to go through the casting process, we started to realize that Elizabeth Mitchell was going to be involved, and we decided that maybe we need to go a little bit more of a man's man, and what's bizarre is that literally, when we came back from ABC and we had had that discussion, Joel Gretsch
called me, and just said "Hey? What's happening? What are you doing right now?" Just out of the blue. And I'm like, "It's funny you should call. What are you doing right now?"

I think it's probably just me. I'm guessing he's just talking about how kickbutt of a character Erica is with her FBI skills and Father Jack had to be more of a guy who could keep up with her?

Glad to know that we'll be seeing more of Laura Vandervoort!

It seems like the people in charge of this show have their heads on straight, by thinking of what they would like to see as a viewer. I think that will, actually, be so beneficial to us because they have us in mind and will do their best to deliver something we'll enjoy because they enjoy it.

Great interview!

Still on the fence about this show as it seems like they are shying away from the some of the types of things I like I'm tired of the Its all about the characters mentality that now is the mentality in Holywood as this translates to me as more soap opera angst crap.

I long for days of shows were adveturous escapeism

I am generally not a shipper, but Erica and Father Jack have a LOT of chemistry. I'd love to see more of them together.

I personally feel better about this show after reading the interview so thanks for posting it. I like sci-fi, but it's the characters that I watch a show for. Knowing this show is going to be character driven definately gives me hope this show will do well. The writers actually have a plan, a begining, a middle and an end so they won't run out of story to tell.

This line "If you dont like our show you still got your dvds of the original" or something of this sort used by every Director of a reboot is really starting to tick me off.

Yeah we got all the episodes of the original V BSG or Star Trek on DVD but watching the same episodes over and over is not the same as wanting new content that stays true to the originals.

It kind of Alienates (no pun intended) old fans by saying our show is superior If you dont think so go hide in your moms basement with your DVDs and leave us alone.

Let me be clear. I'm not bashing these rebooted shows. I loved the new versions of BSG and Trek. I even liked the new Knight Rider when it was on.and will probably end up liking new V even though I like the full Invasion shock troopers in the streets concept better than the lets control the media and play mind games concept that the new show is going with.

I just think the statement is in poor taste Now Im not the type that will not watch a show because I dont like what an creator or actor says or does on their free time but I have some friends that would be turned off by this.

Eh, it's a double edged sword. If they do a rehash of the original, there's no real reason to do it at all then. Why not just reair the originals instead? heheh

Excellent interview all around.

I couldn't sit through the original series again. I'd rather have teeth pulled.
A person should like themselves more than that. All one can do is hope
that the new series can please. I too enjoy brainless action and laser
guns for escapism, but I expect a decent story as well. There has to be
an acceptable balance. The New Battlestar Galactica veered towards
too much drama and not enough action, but it worked for the most part.
I would have prefered a little more action. Babylon 5 was the perfect
television series. It was balanced in action and drama. That's the best
sci-fi show in my personal opinion. It's only weakness as I said above
was the CGI looked a bit weak from time to time.

Most of us men who enjoy watching "Movies for Guys who love Movies"
for the action, not the drama. Unfortunately, there are three times as
many women on the planet and television caters to the majority. A good
example is casting Starbuck as a woman. In my opinion, one of the worst
decisions ever, but it seemed to work. I still think that Battlestar
Galactica was a slow, lumbering show and I do own the first three
seasons. Go figure.

Women like to talk, gossip, spread rumors (Why do you think they
always have to have a cell phone sown to their ears no matter where
they go?) and guys like to "Shoot first and ask questions later".

There are six Lifetime-type shows/channels for every Sci-Fi Channel
and even it has to change it's name to SyFy because they are afraid
it will be synonymous with geeky guys living in their parents basement
with Vulcan ears on watching old reruns of Buck Rogers and it will
scare women viewers away. What have we become?

I once read in a Hollywood Reporter article that Morris Chestnut's Ryan will be Erica Evans' love interest. I don't know if that is still the plan or not but I wouldn't be opposed to a Jack/Ercia hookup if the chemistry between the actors is good enough. They definitely do look great together.

I've also noticed a trend that even in new sci fi action type shows the petite 100 pound woman is the action hero and the guy is her nerdy tech savy sidekick

Haven't seen the pilot, but I am familiar with both actors and can see them as a perfect match onscreen.

I'm really hoping Morris Chesnut will NOT be Erica's love interest. He's an alien isn't he?, that would be a really dumb storyline since her son is already going down that road. I'm really hoping for the father Jack romantic spin, that would be more interesting to watch.

The dynamic between both couples would be completely different though. I don't care either way but I think it's a little bit premature to call a storyline dumb before we've seen a hint of it on-screen.

In the previews it looks like he's (Morris Chesnut) hugging what I can only assume is his wife, or girlfriend, unless it's his sister. She doesn't look like she's related to him though. Look I feel everytime I give my opinion on this site people get all angry with me for just giving my opinion. Perhaps my conclusion was premature, but I was just hoping for a ship I would want to root for. Erica seems too smart to get involved with an Alien knowing he's one. I want her to be a cross between Sydney Bristow and Juliet Burke, and that would be a brilliant character so many will get behind. Sydney could never fall in love with the enemy, even if he is nice. She would automatically know it could never work. So while I do believe they will befriend the alien (Morris) I think even that will cause problems down the line. So while doing the Father/Erica romance you could also have the Human/alien friend thing going on, which would be two tension filled stories. That's JMO. Someone less brilliant than Erica needs to have the alien romance going on, to keep her character true to how smart she seems to be.

The woman he's hugging is his girlfriend, Valerie, who might be his fiancee sometime down the line.

And there is a male who is an alien that Erica may have chemistry with... not spoiling anything and no, it's not Father Jack. Though I'm a total Erica/FJ shipper, mostly because the actors playing them are both so brilliant.

Is it the dark haired guy we see in the previews with Ana? He looks kinda mean lol.

That's it. According to the Hollywood Reporter article she won't know that he is one.

And IMO it's better not to measure a fictional character's intelligence on their romantic choices. I love me some Juliet and she was without a doubt a truly brilliant scientist but she wouldn't fare all too well if I were to rate her level of intellect solely on her love life considering that she made the same stupid mistakes and choices time and time again (getting repeatedly romantically involved with men although she knew perfectly well that they were in love with someone else). But this is getting off topic now.

Can you say love triangle?

I said a cross between Syndey Bristow and Juliet, not an exact replica. Anyway again it's JMO nothing more.

Love triangles make me sick at this point lol
