Rumor: Smallville Spin-Off Instead?

I'm starting to hear some buzz that if Tom doesn't sign up for Season 9, there might be a "Smallville Spin-Off" in its place for next year.

I have NO CLUE what it would possibly be, or even if it's happening. Could be speculation like the rest of us have had.

What do you all think? Yea or nay? What should it be if it does happen? Or is it time to put a fork in the franchise entirely?

As usual thanx for the info Craig.

If Smallville does in fact end this year then I would be all for a Smallville spin-off series. I do believe that the Legion Of Superhero's would be cool to do. In the comic books they have over 20 plus members and deal with some of the greatest villians in the universe. Villain's such as the Fatal Five. The right person could do great things with the Legion.

I would love to see a "Legion marooned in the 21st century" show... since the future would be expensive to work out.

I wanted to see Green Arrow, but I've been kind of turned off to the character this season, he kind of just seems "there." Maybe if Black Canary was around, but Alaina just booked another role.

Guess we'll see... too bad Bruce Wayne is tied up in movie land

I wouldn't mind a LOS w/ Kara or JL series. Or GA by himself would be good as well.

Honestly, Craig? I started watching SV because of the Superman angle. I *continue* to watch it because of Tom Welling. If/when Welling leaves, or the show is no longer about Superman, I too will leave. I don't have much interest in a SV-inspired spin-off if its sans the two reasons for why I watch the show in the first place.

My 1st choice: A show about the Legion.

2nd: A show about the whole JLA (Green Arrow, Kara, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Cyborg, Impulse, Watchertower, and more).

3rd: A show about Kara as the main character.

4th. A show about Green Arrow & Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) as a team.

5th: Green Arrow solo.

I have to agree with Pat here.If they want a spin-off they have to ditch the name Smallvile as well as everything Clark related. For me the worst thing other than Smallville ending,is seeing a spin-off where Chloe,Kara and/or Oliver discuss how great Clark is doing Offscreensville.I think a good idea is the the spin-off with the Legion. They are the people who have the least connection with Smallville's Clark out of all the others. Finally,i have to say this. The departures of Lana and Lex had a negative ratings effect.Imagine what ratings a spin-off show called Smallville without Clark get.The best thing they can do is wipe the slate clean.

Are you sure? You never know. Hey, Star Trek takes place in the future... I put Legion as my #1 choice what'd I'd like to see for a spin-off. But if there is a Legion show, it really should be set in the future.

this rumor make me feel sad and disappointed, because I was waiting for more DP stories, Clark -lois-jimmy adventures... FINALLY I love to see Clark like alpha-man no like a Idiot teenager...

I agree. If there’s a spin-off then they should only mention Clark once in a rare while - maybe one line about Clark every three episodes. They should not forget his existence, but he shouldn’t be talked about all the time if he’s not even there.

I thought this was settled but for a few minor details. Did something happen most recently that may have changed Tom's desire to continue? Once again all eyes and pressure is on Tom's shoulders. Unfairly,I might add.

I like the spin-off show Offscreenville, it could be really cheap and have characters come into a coffee shop or someone's apartment and just give exposition and update the other characters of the latest news and events...they wouldn't have to do any SFX then either...They'd need a couple of lead female characters for the CW though and then various other uncompleted storylines. Anyone hear about that show about young Robin (of Batman and Robin) or is that still in development? That sounded like a horrible idea.

A horrible idea just popped up in my mind.At the end of one of the episodes of this spin-off,the hero(whether it is Oliver,Kara, the JL or the LOS) is in trouble. At that point the camera zooms out into space and they show us the back of a man with black hair staring towards the earth. At that point a red cape starts to get blown by the wind bringing it's S symbol in front of the camera as we go to the credits.

An even worse thought just popped in my mind:

What if the producers are confident but not 100% sure that Welling will return for Season 9, so they just go ahead and end Season 8 with a real cliffhanger…. but then Welling turns out not to return!!!!!!! The show ends with no ending at all!!!

I mean, fans disagree so much on these boards…. But one of the few things we can all agree on is: when this show ends, it must have satisfying closure!

Hmmm, I like the sounds of JLA, but I bet if they did that they would only show Clark in guest appearances, also a Legion show or Supergirl show! But I still really want a S9!

ForzaItalia that one is a constant nightmare of mine. It's not like it will be unprecedented. They did it with Lex last season.Personally(and since there is no head-shaving here) i think that if TW were to leave, they would cut a deal for him to come back in the summer and wrap up Clark's story in a 2-3 episode arc.

A Green Arrow spinoff would be excellent, for all the reasons Craig gave in his article a year or so back - failing that a Justice League show.

A Green Arrow spinoff would be great - potentially darker and more gritty. The character has been underused this season, and so there is a lot of potential for a range of storylines, bringing in characters from the Smallville world as well as new figures.

well if a spin off is happening it wouldnt be smallville any more. Like the various treks, csi,law and order shows. For me if their is any spin offs i like to see jl(maybe a brave and the bold style for budget reasons) or a solo green arrow show, and maybe get bc as a part time cast member. Then maybe have tom show up once in awhile and for tom since he likes directing maybe let him direct a few episodes from time to time.
