Human Target (FOX)

Yay, another DC Comics property coming to TV. But boo, it'll be on FOX, so unless it's an instant hit, watch it start big and then go poof unless it's paired with American Idol. *sigh*

This one was actually a series for a few weeks before on ABC in the mid-90's, but NO ONE watched. I still think it'd make for a cool TV series - a LOT more accessible than say "Fables."

Apparently FOX has already ordered a pilot.

Well their first mistake was casting Rick Springfield as the lead.

But from the sounds of it feels like it has an almost "Vengeance Unlimited" feel to it. Lets hope Fox can do it some justice

Eh, unless it's got a good cast, it doesn't show much promise. Even if it wasn't on Fox, I see this thing getting canned pretty quickly.

I think it could be pretty cool... but then again, I like shows of its ilk and probably would've even liked the Rick Springfield version. It could be very Equalizer or Burn Notice in its vibe - just hopefully with a lead actor with charisma, because Burn Notice really didn't impress me much in that department.

Of all DC properties, it might not be the first I'd go to but I think it'd be a lot more successful for TV than say Fables which ABC has optioned.

I'll probably end up covering the development of this one, even if it's just on one page to cover the pilot. We'll see.

Burn notice has the dramedy and interesting characters going for it so it made up for what it lacks in acting talent. I guess the concept kind of brings me back to Lie to me. An ok concept, but I don't see series.

i've never heard of that from DC, it sounds like a Vertigo story, not a very intriguing one at that

I think it's plenty intriguing, or it wouldn't have inspired a TV series twice now.

I think the key is all in the execution - and if it's something that provides a lot of standalones with an underlying mytharc - it could make for something interesting.

Though I doubt it would have a strong DC Universe tie-in because of the Vertigo stuff, I'm already way more into this idea than Fables, like I said.

I guess the key would be to see if the script is any good... and who they cast.

More background about the character can be found here: http://target.kryptonsite.com

I loved Equalizer when it was on TV....I hope this one mimics it!

Equalizer was so awesome.

Did you ever see the Lone Gunmen episode with the monkeys, with the Equalizer's voice?

I hope Human Target's casting is equally good. Obviously not someone as old as Woodward, but a lead actor with a lot of presence who could easily lose that presence to "become" other people as well.

I think most ideas or adaptions can work in TV as long as there is a strong believable cast and solid writing and direction. Of course there is always that factor of what TV station you end up with. I loved the idea of The Dresdin Files....but it just wasnt written as well as it could have been.....and it didnt get much promotion from Sci-fi.

Even better, I've now posted the full casting breakdowns... what do you all think?

(Spread the word if you find them interesting... I can't really pimp on other sites, that would be hypocritical, but you can )

Simon West of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider fame has signed on to direct the pilot... looks like it'll be happening.

I have all the episodes of the original. It was pretty good. If I remember correctly. Clarence Clemmons (of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band) was in the pilot as Chance's right hand man. But, was replaced in the series. It was also produced by the same guys (Pet Fly) who created the live action Flash series. Now, their was a show that was killed before its time.

On a side note...Exodus, I loved Vengeance Unlimited. That show was great.

I wonder If they will cast relatively new/unknown actors/actresses or go with or mix in veterans. Sometimes you can look at a comic book and say "ooh this actor would be great for that roll"....like i always thought Rutger Hauer would have made a much better Magneto than Ian McKellen.

It was....its a shame they put it up against Friends or it may have had a better chance of surviving.

Craig, I made it myself. I write to the actors through their agents. And over the years I have made dozens of cast signed mattes... Here are a couple others I have done...
