Gerard Christopher should play Jor-el!
I just read the K-Site spoilers and I'm looking forward to the Memoria when we finally see Jor-el and Lara. I couldn't agree more that Gerard Christopher looks perfect for Jor-el. I really hope the Smallville producers cast him.
For anyone not familiar with Gerard Christopher, go to http://www.gerardchristopher.com/ Although I'd like to see Stacy Haiduk on the show, I don't think she'd make a good Lara. I think Helen Slater would be a better choice. Last edited by Kryppy; 02-20-2004 at 12:56 AM. |

I would give anything to see the forgotten branches of the mythos brought back to the forefront like this. Gerard Christopher is a GREAT choice. I have been passionately advocating the 'Superboy' series on this site, but people just aren't buying it. Don't ask me why. I don't think I see Haiduk as Lara, either, but I dunno about Helen Slater. Interesting idea.

I so totally forgot about the Superboy series (well not actually, but I just can't seem to find much on it, and it was SOOO long ago). I would have to agree that he would make a great choice as Jor-el. Don't ask me about Lara, as I have never seen the woman......

Not sure about that. You've got Welling playing Jor El on Earth in 1961, and you've got Terence Stamp doing his voice. And now you want to cast yet a 3rd different actor to play him in an episode? That could get a bit dicey due to the fact that Welling looks nothing like Gerard Christopher. Perhaps they can make Christopher use an English accent??

Well, Welling is a tall, square-jawed, light eyed brunette. He looks more like Gerard Christopher than Terence Stamp, that's for sure. I mean, I could see it if it was Dean Cain we're talking about, but thank goodness it is not. Nothing against Cain, but voice-wise, it would be hard to imagine that Dean Cain eventually grows into Terence Stamp's voice, while Gerard Christopher is a bit more believable, as he is, what, in his forties? But he looks younger. But still, I'd take Terence Stamp just as well. By the way, dig the teaser, manofsteelkalel! I agree.

Gerard Christopher and Tom Welling look nothing alike? Go to the link above and look at Gerard's pictures. They have an amazing resemblance! |

well yes I realize he doesnt look Terence Stamp, but he doesnt have to, we havent seen Stamp in the show, we've only heard him, so for coninutiy's sake he should atleast sound like him, so I think the actor should be able to do the accent
Glad you like my teaser, I'm pushing for that to happen in so many ways Quote:

They could have Gerard Christopher act, and then have Terence Stamp dub on all his lines. That was done in the Superman movie and nobody noticed. When Jeff East played young Clark Kent, people complained at test screening that it didn't make sense how when Jeff East was Clark there was a southern accent, but when Reeve played Clark the accent was gone. So they had Reeve carefully dub over all of East's lines. East is never heard in the entire film. Maybe they could try something similar in Smallville. Gerard Christopher acting, Terence Stamp doing a voice over.
It would make no sense to show an image of Terence Stamp. They already showed Jor-el was supposed to be about 20 in 1961. So that means he should be 48 in 1989 when he rocketed Kal-el to Earth. Today, Terence Stamp is 64 and Gerard Christopher is 46 . |

How quickly do Kryptonians age on planets with a red sun? That could help predict what kind of actor they choose. If they still age slowly, then they should go with a younger actor (maybe they will keep continuity and have TW act the part).

I agree with having Gerard Christopher act as Jor-El, but maybe, since it is a flashback, they won't even show the faces of the parents... Maybe they'll just focus the cameras on their torsos dressed in Kryptonian outfits and such. I'm sure we've all seen this such thing on other flashbacks on other shows... don't have any examples in my head right now. This way they could just use Terence Stamp's voice and not have to deal with getting new actors into the mix. It would just be an easy way out for the producers and writers.
Although... I would definitely like to see Gerard Christopher as Jor-El. |

The K-Site spoilers clearly said Jor-el and Lara "appear." Those spoilers are never wrong.
Jor-el needs to look older than he did in Relic. When they used make-up effects for young people to appear older in Redux it was awful. They can't repeat such a terrible effect on a moment as significant as seeing Jor-el for the first time. When I look at a modern picture of Gerard Christopher, it's truly believable that it's Jor-el from Relic 20 years older. By the way, I love your teaser trailor MANOFSTEELKALEL |

Someone pointed out that if Stacy Haiduk is Lara that makes both of Clark's mothers former Lana Langs. That's a great observation! But I'd rather see Haiduk in a scene with Annette O'Toole and Kristin Kreuk, so you have 3 different Lanas on screen together.

aha! spoilers were wrong once because they (editors I guess) cut out a scene in the script involving Judge Ross in the episode "Ryan." She was supposed to run for Mayor against Tate.
I'm probably going to crack up seeing an attempt to have Jor-El and Lara without actually seeing them, knowing of the no kryptonians rule. Last edited by Zooks; 02-22-2004 at 05:52 PM. |

There are plenty of spoilers that turn out differently or not at all in the actual episode. |

aging tom would be a bad idea. they tried that before in the first season, i think. it was the episode where the girl had to constantly eat people to stay alive. they aged her and the makeup was horrible. i dont know if they could do a better job on tom so i think the best thing to do is hire an older actor.

I would love to see Gerard Christopher and Stacy Haiduk in the Smallville series in some form. I think it would be only fair to incorporate them into the series just like they are doing with past actors from the movies.
