Speculations about season 9
1) Zod?
Was the naked guy at the end really Zod?
How did Zod end up in the Orb? Isn't he in the Phantom Zone?
Why would Zod call his own name?
How did he get released? Why is the Orb operating on its own?
If the Orb could have freed that guy on its own, why didn't it do it sooner, but felt the need to manipulate Tess?
It just all looks so very badly planned at the moment.
But if it really is Zod, I do hope they'll make him a worthy opponent to Clark. Someone intelligent and dangerous. Something like Brainiac was.
Also, Lois knows about the Orb, that Tess had it, and what she planned to do with it.
Sounds good for her for next season.
2) Big Lois theory.
We have no idea where the ring took Lois. As Rokk said, Clark should have used the ring to send Doomsday to them, so I'm guessing Lois is in the future.
I feel sorry for her. The future she's in can't be all that good. Clark, the way he is now, without hope and after he lost his faith in humanity, can not be the same hero we expect him to become. This Clark can not become Superman we all know. So if Lois meets that future Clark, I fully expect her to be shocked:
- because Clark is still alive,
- when she learns the truth about Clark and that he was the RBB in her timeline,
- at how distant and emotionless he is.
So I'd love to see this Lois get through to that future Clark (he won't be called Superman, because there was no Lois to name him. Plus, that's an easy 'out' so they don't need to have Tom in the suit, since he ended up being a different kind of hero.)
Lois "Stay and fight!" Lane would never let Clark stay emotionally closed off. Even if it's been over thousand years for him since he last saw her. She'd restore his faith in humanity by showing him that people are worth fighting for, and that Clark is one of us. She'd remind him of who he really is, and give him back his hope.
And after she 'fixes' future Clark they can send her back to our timeline so she could do the same to our Clark, who is terribly broken at the moment.
To fix the problem of Lois knowing too much, that future Clark could kiss her and make her forget. It would be extremely bitter-sweet. She never would remember how much she mattered and what she did, and what she actually means to him, how she is the one who keeps him connected to humanity. And it would be extremely tragic for future Clark too, because he has to send her away, after he finally found her again, because he knows she doesn't belong with him, but with his past self. And he'd be aware of how much he missed out by not having her in his life.
Beautiful. Tragic. Perfect.
Puts all timelines, future and present, back on their original path, and restores order.
Then when Lois comes back she can do the same thing with our Clark Though obviously it would take more time, since for him the wounds are still fresh, and his disappointment is still new, and he didn't have thousand years to cool off. And there you have it - having Clark reconnect with humanity and getting his hope restored - new major plot for season 9. The story that shows how both sides, alien and human, are equally important for Clark to become Superman one day. And also shows why Lois Lane is the only one for him, because without her he could never be that man.
And if I could have my way, I'd also have at least one scene were Garth fanboys because he gets to meet Lois.
Insane theories
1) Have you heard about "Chloe is pregnant" theory yet? Because Chloe had her hands on her stomach in that last scene.
Well here's my twist on why she did that.
Since when is James Marshall feeling artsy with episodes he's directing? I'm talking about that last Clark scene, when he's walking away. But instead of seeing him walk away, we see him *fade away*.
So Clark disappears. Chloe is left alone, and holds her stomach.
So here's my theory. Next to that last scene, one more thing stood out to me. Jimmy apologized to Chloe and told her he loved her before he died, after he saved her life. Why would Jimmy feel the need to apologize, and for what?
But, Chloe hurt Jimmy in every way imaginable this season - she'd have something to apologize for.
What if we saw the last part of the episode through Chloe's eyes, and she's actually the one who got stabbed by Davis, then saved Jimmy's life and ended up dieing?
Then Clark disappearing in that last scene would make sense, as it's her who's slowly fading away from this world. She said Chloe, Dinah and Bart disappeared. Then Clark. Everyone is slowly fading away, as she's closer and closer to death. And her holding her stomach is actually her keeping her hands over her wound from where Davis stabbed her.
Yes, I know the whole Jimmy's funeral scene wouldn't make much sense then. But my theory is as valid as "Chloe is pregnant" one.
Plus, this one would start season 9 with a big shocker and generate a buzz this show desperately needs. It'd be impressive if they could pull a twist in season 9 premier.
So that's my crazy speculation for the summer, as I doubt you'll be seeing me discuss Smallville, not until first spoilers start to come out. Then I'll decide if I like where they're going and if I'll be back for season 9.
For the time being Smallville and I are taking a break.
Permanent or not, that is up to TPTB.
