New mom Nicole Richie isn't just all about walks in the park with baby Harlow, or sashaying down red carpets or even shopping. In fact, The Simple Life alumna's making a return to TV as a guest on Chuck this fall.

Richie's guest role will be that of a snarky, mean girl who was cruel to Yvonne Strahovski's character, Sarah Walker, in high school. Walker has to face her former torturer for a mission at her 10-year high school reunion, with Chuck as her date.

Exec producer Josh Schwartz sang the praises of Richie, and made sure we knew she had to try out and everything: "Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny. This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and...kick some butt." Comedic skills? Kicking butt? Could this be a Nicole we've never really seen before — or expert directing? — Anna Dimond

well it might bring viewers. boost the ratings a little. i have not seen her act so i wont be able to judge her until i see her, but if she's as bad as paris hilton (she ruined house of wax) then im not going to like her episode.

also here is the NBC press release :

NICOLE RICHIE ('THE SIMPLE LIFE') COMPLICATES LIFE WHEN SHE GUEST-STARS ON NBC'S 'CHUCK' AS SARAH'S HIGH-SCHOOL NEMESIS

BURBANK, Calif. - June 25, 2008 On a new episode of NBC's returning drama "Chuck" (Mondays, 8-9 p.m. ET), Special Agent Sarah Walker (series star Yvonne Strahovski, "Gone") gets a bad blast from the past when she comes face to face with her high school nemesis -- played by guest star Nicole Richie ("The Simple Life") -- for broadcast this fall.

Richie will guest-star in the episode as the snarky and spiteful girl who tortured Sarah in school -- and now Sarah must face her fears when she is forced to attend her 10-year high school reunion for a mission with Chuck (series star Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") as her date.

"Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny," said executive producer Josh Schwartz. "This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and be diabolically evil and kick some butt. It's going to be really fun."

Richie recently was featured in cover stories for People magazine and Harper's Bazaar. Touted as a style icon, her fashion statements are regularly featured online, in print and on entertainment news shows. In addition to "The Simple Life," on which she co-starred with Paris Hilton, Richie has guest starred on shows such as "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" and "American Dreams." Richie is also launching a jewelry line, House of Harlow 1960, in the upcoming fall.

"Chuck" is a high-concept action comedy that follows Chuck Bartowski (Levi), a regular twentysomething whose life is thrown into disarray after his friend, a CIA agent, sends him an e-mail which results in the world's secrets becoming embedded in his mind. Chuck is just an ordinary guy who spends his days solving problems at an electronics store with a band of nerdy cohorts and longing to find a woman who can appreciate him. He never asked to become the government's most powerful weapon, but suddenly the fate of the country lies in his unlikely hands. Agents Sarah Walker (Strahovski) and John Casey (series star Adam Baldwin, "Serenity") are assigned to protect him.

From College Hill Pictures, Wonderland Sound and Vision in association with Warner Bros. Television, "Chuck" was created by Josh Schwartz & Chris Fedak and is executive produced by Schwartz and McG.

Hey, this might not be terrible. Paris Hilton guess starred in an early Veronica Mars episode, and we now how not terrible that show was and remained. And even if this one episode is bad, it's one out of 24, so no big deal over all. If she was playing a recurring spy-related or chuck-family related character, we'd have reason to be worried, but worst comes to worst, it looks like she's a one shot character.

but paris was basiclly playing herself the idiot rich girl was is famous for being famous whereas nicole will be playing a classmate to a spy sorry but no way would sarah and Nicole go to the same school let alone be in the same classes. sarah is way to smart to be stuck in a class with nicole who stricks me as less gifted and more the school drop out type not the someone gifted type sarah reminds me of as she appears to understand what chuck means when he says something whereas I am not sure if nicole whould even understand herself let alone Chuck, Sarah, John Casey, or anyone else.

Oh, good point. Plus she had like 4 lines tops.

In a lot of schools the gifted are stuck with the retarded, unfortunately. Our education system is messed up in most places.

OK, so a quick wikipedia trip reveals that she's acted in 8 simple rules, Rock me Baby, and Kids in America. Has anybody seen any of these? Maybe she's a better actor than we think.

Now, assuming the worst, that Ms. Richie can't act, that the role in the episode does not fit her at all, and that the episode overall thus becomes the worst episode of Chuck, nay the worst episode of any series on NBC this season, it will just be that one episode. Let the credits roll, and then next monday we'll have another great episode of chuck to enjoy, Nicole Richie-less. We can just forget about this ep.

She is in the series finale of 8 Simple Rules because I have seen every episode of that many times over.
She was the girl in detention with Bridget who called Kerry a "goody-two-shoes".

John Ritter was one of my most favorite actors.
