View Full Version : Lois and Jimmy were a couple?

I re-watched last nights episode and I found it odd that Jimmy was watching Lois thru his lens, then Clark comes up and says "Nice bowtie." Jimmy replies "thanks, it was a present from an old girlfriend..." while he is sorta watching Lois over Clark's shoulder.
Here's the clip, tell me what you think.

i think that can be explained because Jimmy is a guy. that's the third Jimmy lusting Lois joke they have done the past few episodes(although not as blatent as others).
The idea of Jimmy and Lois doing it is just sacreligious

Well, Jimmy has always had a bit of a crush on Lois. That's part of the canon.

The quote about his bowtie being a present from an "old g/f" is a reference to Chloe. There was an episode where Chloe gave a bowtie to Jimmy as a gift.

True in the RW, but that could have changed in the AU.

Yeah I figured the reference about the bow tie was about his ex-gf Chloe. Jimmy just has a crush on Lois, they haven't gone to that place in the AU.

Jimmy has always had an unreciprocated crush on Lois.
Maybe thats why he was Lucy Lane's boyfriend in the comics,Can't get Big Sis,settle for Lil' Sis.

jimmy looking at lois in his camera was an omage (sp?) to the first superman movie with CR and MK.

Plus, if Lois was the girl who broke Jimmy's heart (which he said the girl who gave him the bowtie did), I'm betting he'd have been a little bit more eager to do something to get her back when he was taken. Not racing to cover his own tail.
It was an homage, and I think it's likely he had a crush on her. But I think the bowtie itself was even the exact same one Chloe had given him (not just A bowtie but THE bowtie). But given his reaction when she was taken (and he didn't yell, "OMG! The girl I loved and never got over was just taken by the FEDS!") I think they were just implying that Jimmy and Chloe had still dated (which makes sense, since Clark had nothing to do with them meeting during her internship), it ended, she met someone else, he worked at the DP, and now he (probably) has a bit of a crush on Lois. That's all.

I still think Lois/jimmy used to be a couple. But Jimmy was still into her. If the bowtie was still from Chloe then why did he watch Lois walking up the stairs saying "thanks, it was a present from an old girlfriend, she stole my heart but left me with a great sense of style..."
I mean it was an AU. Sure, the bowtie came from Chloe in the Real world but in the AU it changed to Lois... Didn't you noticed that LOTS of things changed? Why wouldn't this?

I thought it was pretty clear he was talking about Chloe, the bowtie remark was a dead give away. Also as others have stated Jimmy looking at Lois through the camera lens was an homage to the Superman movies, and it's also well known that Jimmy has always had a little crush on Lois, but she's never seen him in the same light. You could also tell by their interaction together after Clark bumps into Lois, that there wasn't anything between them, they act perfectly normal around each other, you'd think they'd at least show some tension if they were trying to hint at them being a couple in the past. So no I don't think they were, they would have made it much clearer. But of course you're entitled to your own opinion Faith. :)

Ummmmmmm...okay, well I guess you can think that if you really want Lois/Jimmy to have been a couple in the AU. I mean, if you're desperate for it, you could do that. On the other hand, given the amount of information we're actually given to go on, Jimmy could have been (and likely was, IMO) referring to Chloe (is there any evidence to show he WASN'T, after all?). Or he could have referred to Lana. The receptionist downstairs. The somewhat "butch" girl he used to see down at the bar after work. His next door neighbor. His mother. Or any of a hundred other people.
The reason I don't think that it changed is because I don't think that they showed it did. Again, I'm basing that it didn't on what they showed in the show.
Jimmy made a point of telling a perfect stranger that the girl who gave him the bowtie broke his heart. Plus, he's wearing the bowtie in question.
Then Lois comes in and talks to him - no indication that either was talking to an ex.
Then Lois gets arrested. And Jimmy, who presumably (by your theory) just saw the love of his life just get carted away, does what? He goes to cover his tail, seeming fairly unconcerned about it.
Not saying he was totally unconcerned about Lois, but his actions weren't those of a man who just saw the girl who broke his heart (but he was still hung up on enough to mention it out of the blue - and wear the bowtie she gave him) get carted away by the feds. They were the actions of a man who just saw his co-worker get carted away and was afraid he might be next.
I think that this entire theory, like so many others, is completely without merit or support. However, if you want to believe that Lois and Jimmy were an item in the AU, given absolutely no evidence to even suggest as much...feel free. I could care less. I suppose I could guess why one would want to believe this, but I won't bother. I'll merely say that if you really want to believe that Lois and Jimmy hooked up in the AU, although there is absolutely no evidence to support this contention...feel free. People generally believe what they want to believe anyway, I daresay.
But I think the fact that Jimmy was looking at her through his camera (as he did in the beginning of the Superman movies) and the fact that he arguably had a crush on her (as he does in the RW) means that they were a) showing Jimmy in his "future" role as demonstrated by the Superman movies and other media - where he takes pictures of Lois (and Clark, when he's around) and b) may have a tiny but actually harmless crush on Lois. And that's it.
As one last note, I imagine Lois would burn any bowties he ever had; not give him more.
But, hey, if you like your theory, you should run with it. I don't think there's any support for it, but...*shrugs* Whatever.

AULois and EDLois are the same, that was the whole point of them totally showcasing Lois and Clark going out for a beer. It was like a big red arrow connecting AULois to EDLois. Saying see, same, see, the same.

I'm not deperate for it. It just confused me, thats all. If he Jimmy hadn't played his lines like that in that scene then it wouldn't matter.
Even Lois knowing where Jimmy's apartment was make me ponder. But I'm not obsessive over this....Just stating my opinion. :)

I think a lot of theories just take quite a bit of reaching to get to. I know some people want Jimmy and Lois to have hooked up - either because they are Jimmy/Lois shippers (there are some out there, as I understand it) or for another reason...because they'd think it was cute or funny, etc.
It is interesting that Lois knew where Jimmy's apartment was, but I don't find that to be conclusive of a Jimmy/Lois relationship any more than Clark knowing where Ollie's apartment is (and apparently having the key) is indicative of a Clark/Ollie relationship. And I can imagine Lois feeling as if it's her right to come over and drag Jimmy out of bed whenever she so needs in pursuit of a story.
Or even, though there's no evidence to support this either, it's possible that Lois dated Jimmy's roommate - who we know exists and is about Clark's size. I don't know that I'd put much stock in that, but I suppose it's possible.
I also suspect we'll be seeing that set in the future. As I understand it, they're building a bunch of sets now, and I suspect in S8 we'll no longer be seeing the Talon apartment. Just my suspicion though.

Awwwwww...thank you, hon! :D Although I must confess that sometimes I am able to say just what I want to say and sometimes my brain misfires and it's only when I read other people's responses and wondering "Where did they get that from?" that I realize it's done so! ;)

It's like the apartment in friends. how could 3 unemployed people even afford that place in NYC. That being said in terms of smallville though, Lois living in a super expensive apartment in Metropolis would make more sense then her commuting back and forth to work each day(anywhere from 3-6 hours). especially with gas prices.

I don't think they were a couple. I think he had an unrequited crush on Lois but nothing ever came of it. But I know that a lot of charcters were supposed to look like there iconic selves but I didn't think that iconic Jimmy Olsen was a bitter wuss. He had absolutely no courage. Lois was getting arrested and all he wanted to do was run away.
I didn't think iconic Jimmy Olson was like that. I thought he was eager and got in as much trouble as Lois did. I also thought he was supposed to be this great photographer and he wasn't his editor told him his photo's were blurry.
Anyway it looked like Chloe was the one who broke his heart. She was the one who gave him the bow tie in the RW. I think he was doublly rejected by two women that always seemed to fall for heros.

that shot was mimicing the shot in Superman 1
i think he lusts after Lois
but I also found it odd how she said "I've had more heros enter and leave stage left" and it cuts to jimmy shaking his head in a rather angry way.
could have dated her and left her, or he just wants her and wishes she would see whats under her nose
or actually now that I think of it..clark looked at him as if to say "you two?" and he says "no"

Whatever, that scene was a homage payed to Superman the movie. Jimmy and Lois would never date. Not in a million years. Unless it is a Jimmy dream sequence.

actually in one of the comics she actually dates Jimmy, i read that somewhere
but as I said above, she mentions her old boyfriends, clark looks at Jimmy as if to ask and Jimmy says no
so thats that IMO

I think that was a reference to Ollie and Arthur both of whom she would have still met without Clark's involvement.
And no, Lois and Jimmy never dated in the comics.

If they were a couple why should Lois say "Olsen's roommate it's about your size". Were they close enough to eat each other's face but not to call themselves by their names?

This thread is hilarous.
There was absolutely nothing to hint it; since when can we put Smallville or movies Jimmy Olsen (cause of the bow tie) in the hero category and given the way she treated him, it didnt look like she did either. The only thing that was obvious was that Jimmy was quite protective of Lois, but if they had dated I dont think he would reffer to her as Miss Lane y usally call my exgirlfriends by their first names.
And what is a very iconic Jimmy characteristic is that he has a boyish crush on Lois Lane.

Yes she broke his heart yet he smiles and askes her if she wants a photographer after he see´s her smitten by Clark Kent "clumsy but cute" and his broken hearted reaction was a simple ear to ear smile and and offer to tag along in one of her stories??? Doesnt make much sense.
And one more thing, she had men walk out left of the stage, meaning THEY have dumped her but Jimmy got his heart broken, so how is it that he broke up with her but she broke his heart??

Not in an angry way, more like in a "Im the one picking up the pieces afterwards" disaproving kind of way. Clark just looks at Jimmy with a "is she serious" kind of expresion.
could have dated her and left her,

I only made this thread because I didn't understand why Jimmy was saying that line about his "girlfriend..." at the same time he was eying Lois. It just didn;t seem to flow all that well if the bowtie came from Chloe. Maybe it was a mistake on AA's part... I guess I will never know... But there is no reason to take this thing nuclear. Ah, should have said so in the first place, this can be argued with a gender explanation, I see in your profile you are a female, well, us men, sometimes and Im not particularly proud of it, visually ignore our male friends while angaging in a conversation while still eyeing the girl we fancy, there´s kind of a tacit agreement that there´s no need for eye contact conversation when in the presence of a fair lady´s rear end is at sight :o:o

I think it's clear that Jimmy is still bitter over his breakup with Chloe. He doesn't even have the distance that a rebound relationship would give him. I think he has a crush on Lois but... nah he's still bitter about Chloe.
AULois doesn't seem to be aware of Jimmy as a member of the male species. I did think it was odd that she was in Jimmy's apartment... but maybe they research stories together.

Aguaman would have been Lex's victim and never seen again and Ollie would have been killed by Duncan without Clark in their lives. As well as the rest of the Justice League. So Lois' comment was designed to tell us that for whatever reason her hero boyfriends either became missing or dead, not that they dumped her.
It was also clear to me that Jimmy was bitter about Chloe breaking his heart and didn't have the guts to tell Lois he was infatuated with her especially since Lois kind of treated him like scum on her shoes.

While it would seem that Ollie and Aquaman would have been dead, I'm nto entirely sure that they were. By all logic, Chloe and Lana would have been dead too. They were on the chopping block numerous times in earlier seasons, in ways that have nothing to do with Clark. Let's see...I think...Lana would have become a Bug Mistress and Chloe would have become a Popsicle - that jock who wanted to freeze her for her body heat. Neither of those bad guys had anything to do with Clark and their motivations for going after Lana and Chloe respectively would likely have stood.
Would Lois have died? That's arguable. Not because of destiny, but if you think about it...Chloe would have died in S1. S2 tops. Lois might have come to Smallville then, but she wouldn't have stuck around. So whether or not she'd have died is anyone's guess.
Besides, again by that logic, Lex would have died in the Pilot. He didn't go over the bridge BECAUSE of Clark. He only lived because Clark was there. So he'd have died and Aquaman would have been in no danger...at least not from Lex.
As for Jimmy...*shrug* I don't know. Again, all I saw was a crush. The same kind of crush that in LnC had Jimmy confessing (while strapped to a lightning rod) "I had this dream once...and you took my hand...and you said you were going to make a man out of me!" And Lois actually looks like she's praying to get struck by lightening.
I also don't think Lois treated him like scum. I don't think she treated him particularly well, but I thought she was dismissive, not cruel. *shrugs* To each his own there.
Actually, this game is kinda fun. Let's see...Okay Clark2 (alt!World Clark) had to have been adopted because Martha was only healed by the spaceship. Jonathan would have been...let's see...would he have been dead or in jail? Was his life ever put in danger because of "Nicodemus" in a context that didn't have Clark involved? I know Bug Guy would have killed him, but Bug Guy was only there because of Clark. So that's out. Hmmm...well, he certainly would have shot someone other than his son while on the drug in Nicodemus, so I'm going with he'd have been in jail. Martha...? *tries to think* That's a good one...I think she might have been the only safe one. Unless someone can think of an episode that escapes me at the minute?
EDIT: I actually kinda don't like that they gave the Kents a son. One of the really wonderful scenes from LnC had to do with Lois and Clark going back into the past and meeting the Kents. After all that, it was like Clark was destined to be theirs (in a different sense than Clark actually WAS sent to them). I mean, I know they'd have still wanted children, so in that sense it makes total sense. But it still makes me kinda sad, to think that Clark would have been so quickly replaced...or easily replacable.

I don't think Ollie or Arthur or Lana would have to be dead because Clark wasn't there. Just Clark's absence alone can result in people making different choices to be somewhere else. That's why the status quo more or less was not maintained in the alternate timeline. For example, Lana and Chloe never became friends. There is no telling what differences were made to the timeline, where perhaps those same meteor freaks existed, but they ended up being obsessed with someone else or killing another person, and so on.
As for Jimmy, I was under the impression that he was referring to Chloe regarding the bowtie as well. Aside from the Season 4 mention, Chloe did actually give Jimmy a bowtie as gift, was it earlier this season? Maybe it was Season 6. And the only thing that I got was the Jimmy had a bit of a crush on Lois, which as far as I know is consistent with Superman mythology.
As ginnyfan speculated, I think Lois likely knew all about Jimmy and his roommate because they had researched stories together.

Obviously there was no one (JL) left to face off against Lex.
Most importantly though, is that this AU was indeed created by Jor-el, an AI who wants Clark to leave these 2 girls behind and move on to the big picture of savior. So Jor-el manipulated the events that had Chloe and Lana better off for not knowing Clark when in all reality they would have been dead as freshman in high school. I mean Lana was attacked like every other week for God's sake.

There are young people earning livings as waiters who rent apartments in Manhattan. You just have a lot of roommates and cut costs elsewhere.
Did anyone notice that Jimmy's loft was the ISIS set? At least that's what it looked like to me.
