View Full Version : Why didn't Clark put it to Lex at the funeral?

Clark knows that Lex has at least one of the keys because Chloe told him so. So why he didn't he just put to Lex right there, demanding the key? I mean, in just the previous scene Clark vowed to stop Lex from getting the keys! Instead, as complete mortal enemies, they stand there like they can forget everything since it's a funeral.

SV fans, I need help with this. I absolutely love this episode, and rave and rave about it here, but this scene seemed a little strange to me in that regard.

Out of respect for Lionel. He came to pay his wishes to a man who died protecting his secret. Having it out over his grave wouldnt have been respectful to his memory. I said in another form...to me this was the calm before the storm. They both gave eachother a once over...and look on their faces was "for now you're safe...but I do plan on destroying you."

yeah i agree completely. a storm is definitely coming and both of them are in it to win. the looks they gave were so meaningful toward everything they're feeling and what's going to come. such a great scene

Exactly...the looks said it all. Which I must give credit to Tom and Michael. Having a scene with so much raw emotion...and not saying a word...it was very well done. An incredibly intense scene. :)

i agree that clark wanted to respect lionels funeral

but im still surprised he didn't at least xray lex at all throughout this whole episode. especially at the first scene when clark was trailing lex outside luthorcorp and talked to chloe about the locket. obviously clark knew that lex wanted the locket, i'm surprised he didn't xray lex right then and there too

Ditto for the respect out of Lionel, but I was waiting for Tom to be the bigger person and just say, "I'm sorry for your loss" and then walk away.

I can see why they did that though. It definitely said more than either of them saying anything. I like how the sun shone after Lex walked away.

Yes I LOVED the end scene. So much was said without words. It was just amazing! I WAS thinking about the key I admit. Earlier in the episode I was hoping Clark would X-ray Lex to see if he had it on him.

I had hoped he would x-ray Lex too. Not at the funeral, but earlier. Like when he told chloe he checked the entire mansion and it wasnt there...i thought, did you x-ray Lex?? The poor boy...needs help on everything.

One of the best endings, really, what I hoped it for Lionel's funeral, only Lex and Clark with nothing but silence, just perfect.

Yea, and their silence spoke volumes. Thats probably one of my favorite scenes ever....very intense.

The great thing about the end scene was that they didn't have to speak to each other. They both knew what they wanted to say, but knew they would meet up again to say it. Clark was paying his respects, and in his own way, Lex was doing the same. The fact that they didn't speak spoke more volumes.

No words needed to be said. They spoke volumes with their eyes!! You could tell the anger and tension between them. Thats what I love about TW and MR, they are excellent at portraying emotion like that!!

This particular time in the episode was a time of honor and personal respect. To take action at Lionel's grave would have been dishonorable and would have disrespected Clark's memory of Lionel.
