Best scenes, in order IMO:
1) Mansion scene (had my heart pumping the whole time).
2) Lex pushing Lionel (had my heart pumping, and also, the distant stare between Clark and Lex outside was awesome)
3) The graveyard scene (amazing)
4) Clarks heat-vision in the freezer was amazingly done!
This was such an awesome episode and I'm sure my DVR will get its work cut out for it after I rewatch the episode 20 million times ;):D

The closing scene was so powerful. Practically no words were said (besides that mutter from Clark's mouth) and it left a lasting effect IMO. Almost as good as the silence in "Persona". :D

I found it interesting in the grave scene that Clark sprinkled dirt on Lionel's coffin in the exact same way he did for Jonathon. Kind of an acknowledgment of him as a father figure to Clark despite being on bad terms towards the end.

All of those scenes were magnificently done and that is why i enjoyed this episode so much but i give a slight edge to the mansion scene with clark and lex.

Though my favorite scene was by far the Mansion Explosion; Lex and Clark aka Mikey and Tom making history on the CUU, I'm a sucker for when ever old blue shows up--- interestingly enough, I've always felt that we the fans should address Clark as Clark when doing Clarkish things, but, when he's doing Super stuff; we should call him by this true title, Superman---.

I liked how Lex told Lionel that nobody will ever remember him. At first I thought it was an obvious nod to the fact Lionel was a character created for the show, but when it is mentioned that Lionel's funeral was a private event for Lex, it was obvious that Lex did that to keep true to what he said. Nobody else would be there to remember him. I also liked how Lionel was buried in what appeared to be just another row of graves. Lex could have afforded something more befitting a man of Lionel's stature, but decided to give him just another monument ontop of grass and dirt. Pretty nasty and cold hearted.

There are too many to choose. I'd say my favorite was the grave scene. It didn't even need any words, closely (very very closely) followed by the mansion scene and than the Lionel death scene and than the Jimmy-Lois scene.

I know it's kinda sick, but I really liked the scene with Lex killing Alexander and that got my vote.
The Hell imagery and the symbolism that Lex is killing his goodness in fiery flames was really well-done. Really shows his final leap into darkness.

All of these scenes were just, WOW. But the Lex-Clark confrontation was just phenominal- perhaps the most impactful of any scene of the series for me. That is the first true good/evil, Lex/Superman sort of confrontation ever. Wonderful stuff. It beats Lionel's death because I thought his fall was a tad bit strange.

Agreed. But one of the truly great set of lines was: "I was raised in your shadow, now you are going to die in mine. No one will even remember your name." Great nod to the fact that Lionel did not exist in the comics (or at least most versions).

I chose the Lex/Clark mansion scene. I thought, sadly, the killing of his good side was a bit cheesy and not needed. I didn't need to be spoonfed that. The death scene was great but I sort of wish it wasn't at the beginning of the episode. The funeral scene was also great. I also, ahem, LOVED the chloe/clark barn scene and Clark mentioning his fathers, very touching. This episode finally stayed true to important issues and confronted them directly without squirming around them.

Arg... too.. many... good... choices
I voted for the heat vision effect, but I also loved the confrontation between Clark and Lex (who's really going unhinged -- fabulous) as well as the loft scene. I winced when Clark started in with his it-is-all-my-fault litany, but Chloe snapped him out of it quickly.
Geez, and also that teeny smile on Lex's face at the gravesite. How creepy.

I absolutely loved the funeral. There was a line by Lex in one of the earlier seasons "When my father dies, kings will come to his funeral, but when your father dies, his friends will come"
When you compare Johnathan and Lionel's funerals you can actually tell how cold Lex really has become.

Every scene that Clex shared was awesome (even the way they were looking at each other outside of Luthorcorp). [QUOTE]
Yeah the way they were looking at each other was just great. It gave me such a feeling of, "OK, now they are true enemies. The legend has arrived." It felt to me like 1) Lex was still somewhat disgusted be what he had done, and didn't want to look at Clark for it, and 2) that Clark was realizing that Lex could be the murderer, but was having a hard time believing it could be true, yet admitting to himself that Lex was now capable of doing such a thing.
I loved the shot where it goes from them looking at each other to Clark and Lex both walking forward, Clark just behind Lex, as if Clark wants to know the truth of what happened, but Lex obviously isn't willing to share it with him because they are no longer allies. This part was shot quite well.

What was interesting was that Clark sprinkled the dirt on Lionel's grave just as he did with Jonathan's. This slightly bothers me because I felt like Clark maybe shouldn't have done that because Jonathan was such a better father figure than Lionel tried to be, and was a much better influence throughout Clark's life, yet Clark shared the same sentiment with both of them. It had the same feeling of when Peter Parker does the upside-down kiss with Gwen Stacy in Spider-man 3, that something that unique should have been reserved for the one that the respective hero loves more.

I can't tell what he said, sigh. I thought he was going to say something, then changed his mind. I think, thinking back now, how much I loved the Clex outside LuthorCorp too, with Lex walking away and Clark just following him, staring. Great stuff.

Definitely the mansion scene with Lex and Clark was great because we finally get away from the usual 1 minute stand-off where they just snip at eachother. Here...they both let loose a lot of tension.
However, I loved the ending the most. Silence. Nothing to be said, but in one instant in time - the perfect dichotomy. Evil and good. Awesome!

It's between Lex and Lionel at the beginning, Clark and Lex in the mansion AND Clark and Lex at the grave site. I voted for Clark and Lex at the mansion.

I really love all of the scenes because I thought that they were fantastic. I loved the part where Clark told Lex that he wasn't going anywhere. Yes! I'm really glad that he didn't fold and remained for the confrontation.
The heat vision was really well done. There are times when it's a little rough, but this time it was a success, and a nod to the fact that he is more powerful now. I love that it was the first (if you will) scene of Superman saving the Lois and Jimmy team.
The closing scene was phenomenal. The quality of the filming was awesome as well as the actions between Clark and Lex. I like that Clark sprinkled the dirt on Lionel's grave because I think that Lionel was deserving. He went down without anyone on his side, protecting Clark/the world. I definitely feel that he deserves to be honored. And once he was, the sun came out...which is now heavy symbolism for Clark and his goodness (good that was spread to that grim burial site once he showed up). It made me so ecstatic.
And finally, I really feel that the scene with Clark/Lex in front of Luthorcorp should be on this list. When everything became blurry and Lex saw his younger self, who says "You killed Dad?", referring to Fracture: when Clark told Alexander to never give up, and never stop fighting, and that Clark would always be watching...then Lex turned to see Clark and the look on his face. Wow. That really got me...gave me chills. I was thinking Clark knows. They did an incredible job, I am so happy with this episode! :D

The opening was just what I expected for Lionel's death, and the closing one on the funeral, was perfect.

That was probably my favorite moment, actually--when Alexander freaking screams that line at Lex. That kid completely NAILED the Rosenbaum scream. I watched it probably five times online beforehand, and it STILL gave me chills.
Somebody buy that kid a pony, because he kicked tail in this episode.
Oh, and my vote was for the Clex mansion scene, because Rosenbaum absolutely OWNED. I don't know about you, but I'm convinced that he's just gotten BETTER year after year, and it's only been some of the script choices that have held him back.

This was a tough choice, but for me it was when Lex killed his good side.
It just means so much destiny-wise...we're being shown that's it, no going back. Lex has fully embraced his evil side.
VERY close to that was the confrontation with Lex and Clark in the mansion.

Definitely the dialogue with Lex and Clark in the mansion. It was hands down one of my favorite scenes of the whole season! I got it on tape so I am going to watch it a couple times. Plus, that end scene at the graveyard was classic! So good!

Its a toss for me between Clark and Lex at the mansion, or at Lionel's grave.
I'm going to choose the mansion scene. I thought that was absolutely amazing. Well acted by Tw and MR. When Clark said, "I have proof,". Lex's face was priceless.

My favorite scene was the killing of Gina. You kind of figured it was coming because she knew too much about what Lex had done, but it came with perfect timing because as I watched the show, I said, someone needs to kill her. Then the dude came in from behind like a thief in the night. Cool mental experience...

The graveyard scene was amazing. Without saying anything, it was clear that both have completely turned mortal enemies. I also loved the wide shot of Lex walking away from Clark with The Daily Planet in the background; that was great foreshadowing of Clark's future at the DP and Lex being his nemesis.

I really enjoyed the final scene of the episode. The scene was well written, from the little smurk on Lex's face to Clark placing dirt over Lionel's grave. In this scene I sensed the official end of a friendship and the beginnings of a personal war.

04-18-2008, 06:57 PM
i initially voted for the Lex/Clark confrontation at the mansion as my favorite scene last night but after having one day to think about the episode...I voted wrong. I should have picked "other"; and explained my favorite scene was right when Lex was asked to verify Lionel's body. The following scene was absolutely powerful with incredible symbolism. Right after Lex nods yes; then the whole scene immediately slows down while Lex moves at normal speed; then as Lex moves off the steps the first person that catches his eye is Clark. Showing that both Clark's and Lex's actions have greater implications than other people's do. Then as they stare at each other; trying to read each other's emotions, feelings at the moment; it gave across the impression of Clark almost x-raying Lex mentally. Clark then just follows Lex along the police line, almost stalking Lex as if he were prey. And Lex hoping Clark will leave for fear that he knows that Clark is the one person who would know the truth. The symbolism I mentioned is how right after someone dies, the world slows down only for Lex and Clark who will come to encompass good/evil or dark/light in the world. Also how those two are the ones who ultimately affect the outcomes of the planet while everyone else is just caught in the middle or observers to their battles.
IMO: that was the only scene that made me think: That is awesome! All the other scenes were fantastic as well, but from the start of each scene you knew they were going to be memorable scenes; they just made this possibly simple scene even greater with the extra effects, adding more commentary to the scene with the extra effects.

The scene with Tom and Michael was a classic smallville ending. Reminded me of Crush from season 1. I fell in love with smallville after Crush and it still remains my favoritt moment in smallville history:)
The Eva Cassidy music in the background from Crush really topped it, and the rain capturing the moment perfectly. Tom standing next to the angel statue. Oh the memories:)

I really liked the heat vision scene, because it finally showed that he can use it at different intensities and it doesn't have to be a direct blast.
The funeral scene was my second favourite scene. It just felt that Clark was very in control of himself, despite his feelings on the matter.
My favourite scene, which nobody in this thread seems to have mentioned, was outside the Luthorcorp building just after Lex had identified his Father and had his first encounter with little Lex. Clark appeared in the background slowly just before the scene returned to clarity. As Lex walked away, Clark followed watching him with suspiscion, trying to assess him for guilt or sorrow, to see which it was he was feeling. I really liked that scene. Lex knew it too.

The grave scene
For some reason Smallville produces very powerful scenes when no one is speaking... i adore it.
I always it when Whitney's dad died... that last grave scene in that was powerful. Not quite the same but also when Chloe and Lana looked at each other at the end of Fever when Lana had just found Chloe's note and then told Clark her feelings.
