I think Lex is THE most predictable people in the show to be a murderer. What was Ausiello talking about?
I think ANYONE in the show being a murderer is more of a shock than Lex.

couldn't agree more. it would have been more shocking if clark or chloe did it, but lex?

Uhh, yah, it is shocking...a man killing his father.

I told my mom about Lex killing Lionel, like...a couple of weeks ago and she looked shocked, then told my dad and he was too, haha.

The thought of him killing his own father is very shocking and very disturbing. That is probably what Ausiello meant.

I don't think so, only because we all know how crazy Lex is. Anyone else it would have been but Lex has been falling into the abyss for a while now.

Yah, but still. The writers tend to pull a 180, and make him some sort of "good guy", and to people who are not familiar with anything Superman, it is disturbing to see that.

I suppose, knowing iconic!lex does sort of desensitize you to him. So when he does something as heinous as killing his father, one just shrugs it off because he's Lex Luthor.

When I spoke to my mom a couple of days ago, and she watches Smallville, she said something like, "Clark should kill Lex before the series ends", which makes me laugh, because that can't happen, haha.

i think lex was the only person who could kill lionel. i figured lex would kill lionel since season 1. thats the only way i see lex going forward. honestly if lionel just died triping over a banana peel i would probably be pissed.

it would not do him justice that's for sure. but, with the way things are on Smallville, it would have been quicker.

Its about as shocking as pudding, but that doesn't take away from the episode.

From the teaser in the pilot and the look on Lionel's face when he reacted to a bald Lex, we knew this was coming.

Seriously the murderer was suppose to be shocking? Lex? Naw. It it'd been Chloe, then yes :)

Hahaha. Yeah.
That's the only clue that threw me off knowing for sure who it would be.
I was like, "The murderer is shocking...It wouldn't be shocking for Lex to kill his father..."
Before we got the clue that it was a male, I figured that Clark would kill Lana or Chloe on accident like during a fight with Brainiac or something.

It's not shocking because we know the end of the story. But if this show was "Clark's creek" or something, then it'd be shocking.

Pudding frightens me. That damn Bill Cosby...

I guess that it was meant to show Lex's position as Lionel's child. It's shocking when a child murders their father, so maybe that's what Ausiello was hinting at. :\

Lex killing Lionel is like Clark flying. I would have been equally as pissed if Lex didn't kill Lionel, as I will be if Clark doesn't fly.

It's not shocking if you've ever seen this show. Or have seen the previews for this episode. Or have heard of Lex Luthor.

its not shocking that lex is killing someone, the shocking thing is this time, he actually does it himself,
and it was his own fathe,
THAT IS SHOCKING,
just because people have been waiting for it for a long time doesnt make it shocking, and the scene were lex kills him is really powerful.

I heard there's a little old lady in Nantucket who hasn't heard of Lex yet.

I heard that's because she's deaf.

The only way it would have been shocking is if it had not been Lex.

It would've been more shocking if Shelby or Martha pushed him off but Lex? Uh, duh! Of course Lex killed him.

Nothing about the episode was shocking--neither the death nor the murderer.
