Was not the line Clark gave Lex at the end ripped straight from Return of the Jedi. Luke Skywalker tells Darth Vader there is still good in him. Luke says he can feel it.

In that last scene between Clark and Lex, Clark says he knows there is still good in him and he has seen it. Tells him to let go and embrace it. Are the writers looking toward Star Wars for inspiration here?

Well, he did actually see the good and that good was in the form of an innocent child. A child to whom Clark made a promise to look out for. But Clark couldn't tell Lex that he had seen the good because Lex isn't supposed to be aware that Clark was in his mind. There is a limited supply of words that can be used to encourage to look for the good within. Besides a good line is a good line. How many times has MLK's "I have a dream..." been used?

I like to think of her as the incarnation of every frustrated shipper in SV... which could be... practically all of us

Yeah, I'm sure if you wanted, you could find that line in some form in many movies before star wars.

There is a limited supply of words that can be used to encourage to look for the good within.Yet when Clark regurgitated the line that he heard when he was in Lex's mind (I forgot what it was) back to Lex, that was pretty much a dead giveaway. If you watch that scene carefully, Lex looked rather alarmed when he heard it. I bet he'll start digging to find out what really happened between him getting shot and that miraculous recovery.

A hero fighting to save the "bad guy" isn't exactly new territory, nor is the "there is still good in you" line. I'd bet money that it was said in some classic literature well before Star Wars, too.

did he say "i see the good" or "I know there's still good" or "there is still good"...

but yeah, i agree, that line is so basic, it's not like he spent the whole episode saying "i have a bad feeling about this", and "laugh it up, fuzzball"...it isn't necessarily a star wars line.

and the line he said to lex at the end, wasn't it something like "there's nothing lost that can't be found." ?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Seemed almost like Clark was testing to see whether or not Lex remembers that he was in Lex's mind. Or maybe he just wanted to jog Lex's memory that there is indeed a part of him that is still good. But wasn't the "...nothing that's lost can't be found..." )something like that) comment that made Lex take pause and not the "there's good in you" comment?

Yes, I think so, because lex had said that to Kara in the diner, and Clark would have no way of knowing that.

So because Clark couldnt tell Lex he ambushed his mind, he decided to quote Star Wars. Yep Clark is officially the lamest character on this show. First, Lex's mind squared the heck out of me. Second I felt so sad for little Lex because he has to live in such a scary place and he eventually will get killed by big mean evil Lex.

Yeah, because everyone who says "I know there is still good in you" had to have taken it from star wars (sarcasm). I'm sure if you look back through history star wars is the only place that's been said (again sarcasm). I guess no one can tell another human being that there is still good in them because they would be ripping it off from star wars. Face it, we all know that lucas owns the rights to telling someone that there is still good in them.

So, what should he have said?

Maybe he should say "But Lionel has more good in him. Neener, neener." (sarcastic)

Lots of people say stuff like that - it's not exclusive to Star Wars! You noticed it as having been used on Star Wars, but that doesn't mean the writers got the inspiration from there. On "Reckoning" Lex said, "I shouldn't do a lot of things, but I seem to do them, anyway." To me, that sounds a lot like Romans 7:14-15, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's where the writers got it.

I liked how lex reacted to clark when he was saying that to him
